Squash is a terrific raquet sport game played regularly in Gymkhana. Even casual players admit
that it compares to even some of the most energetic high intensity workouts. But squash is also
fun and social. It is for everybody. Squash can be played at any age.
At times squash seems a simple game. Get on court, run after the ball, hit it where your opponent
can't get it.
But there's a bit more to it than that.
Playing squash regularly helps the players to increase their physical & mental fitness levels and
that too in minimum amount of time.

matters can be discussed freely. Over confidence is not good.
b) For representative membership, it was discussed in earlier AGM. He agreed that
power should be with Managing Committee but representation should be given to few
good sport persons from Jolly Gymkhana.
c) In almost all envelop from Gymkhana, a phamplet / leaflet received as advertisement.
He wanted to know how much amounts charged for the advertisement. It should not be
free. As per his knowledge, total 18 couriers sent in last year. The expenses amount
are not matching. He wants clarification.
d) There was small incident in Gymkhana where outsiders came to Gymkhana and have
heavy quarrel with a member. They have also complaint in Police Station. He
suggested that this should not be happened in Gymkhana and Gymkhana should take
care of such matters.
e) To Carry out minor repairs in Health Club.
f) To waive associate membership fees which is about Rs. 10 lacs every year.
Shri Manoj Ajmera replied that
a) To conclude Annual General Meeting in 40 minutes is a good sign and all credits go to
members who have confidence in management of Gymkhana. Suggestions are
always most welcome.
b) For Representative membership, it was discussed earlier and matter is now closed.
c) Gymkhana is charging Rs. 25,000/- per leaflet put in envelop. This will reduce cost of
courier which otherwise would have been born by Gymkhana.
d) There was incident in Gymkhana but the member has not registered any complaint
and they settled the issues outside Gymkhana.
e) The minor repairs will be carried out in health club at the earliest.
f) The associate membership cannot be waived as it keeps control on entry in Gymkhana
by associate members so unknown persons cannot enter the Gymkhana, if he/she has
no card for associate membership.
(2) Shri Kanti Bhanushali (LM no. 4639) written a letter and suggested that
a) There should be full details of expenses incurred for all entertainment and other
GHATKOPAR JOLLY GYMKHANA
SPORTS COMPLEX
43
programmes so members can know the programme wise expenses, sponsorship and
entry fees received.
b) There should be priority for members in booking of venues for him/her and his/her
nearest relatives.
Shri Rajnikant Shah replied that
a) There are number of members who are taking advantage of entertainment
programme, seminar, workshop etc which are organised in banquet hall and open
ground. As the number of events increased, the expenses are also increased. All the
details of each programme is available with Gymkhana. It cannot be published in
Annual report. Only total expenses incurred will appear in account like expenses for
other sports. No details of programme wise can be published but always available with
Gymkhana, which can be verified with prior appointment.
b) Regarding priority for venue booking by members, the venue sub-committee will
discuss and decide. It is a good suggestion. Thanks for the same.
(3) Shri Bharat Kanakiya (LM no. 1350) wrote a letter and also presented his suggestion as under.
a) The Senior Citizen Life Members can transfer the membership to nearest relatives like
Brothers, Sisters, Son, Daughter etc and the transferor member be allowed as
associate member of Gymkhana.
b) The fees for transfer will be 40 percent i.e. Rs. 4,00,000/- plus tax.
c) He expect more than 500 transfers which will generate revenue of Rs. 20 Crores which
can be used to purchase new place near Mumbai like Karjat, Khalapur, Lonawala etc.
d) There will be 2 way membership one for Jolly Gymkhana and other for outside
Gymkhana/Resort etc. Which will also generate more fund. Shri Prakash Chhadwa
(LM no. 1821) supported for the suggestion.
Shri Manoj Ajmera replied as under
a) At present the Gymkhana is not in need of funds. At present, it is difficult to give justice
to the present members to use various facilities as there are no sufficient space
available.
b) It is not advisable to develop club/gymkhana out of Mumbai as it is difficult to manage
from Mumbai. We have to depend on agency or contractor and cannot provide
GHATKOPAR JOLLY GYMKHANA

attention on day to day problem.
c) Members can take advantage of affiliation with other clubs outside Mumbai.
d) If further FSI available in new DP Plan, the development in future will be considered
and more facilities can be offered to the members. Therefore at present difficult to
implement the suggestion.
He thanked both and other members for suggestion.
(4) a) Shri C.D. Vora (LM no. 5694) suggested to start Computer classes for the benefit of
members particularly Senior members and to charge appropriate fees for the same.
b) Shri Bharat Kanabar (LM no. 4145) suggested for different hire charges for venue on
Monday to Thursday and on Friday to Sunday. The total weekly revenue will remain
same.
Shri Manoj Ajmera replied that
a) Computer classes with fees can be started if proper space is available. At present no
such space is available.
b) The venues are booked by members or by persons known to members. In marriage
and other functions the tithi is important and not the day. Compared to booking of
venues in other Gymkhana the Jolly Gymkhana has very good utility of about 225 days
in a year. So difficult to implement suggestion.
He thanked both for suggestions.
stHon. Secretary Shri Jitendra Zatakia informed that 31 Annual General Meeting held today thi.e. on 26 August 2016 is 2 days ahead of last year. The proceedings commenced at
scheduled time of meeting i.e. 7.30 p.m. as required quoram was present. The meeting
concluded at 9.00 p.m. i.e. within 90 minutes. Congrat to all for very positive suggestions and
friendly atmosphere.
He thanked all the members for their co-operation and support. He also thanked all persons,
agencies, staff and all as mentioned on page no. 32 of Annual Report, who have helped Gymkhana
directly or indirectly in management, administration, activities and providing all services.
He requested all to join for dinner.
