Onebeefindsagardenandclimbsinsideaflower.Itdrinksthenectar.Thenectarisstoredinasackinthebee’sbody.Asitwalksaround,pollenstickstoitslegs. Whenthenectarsackisfull,thebeefliesbacktothehive.Theotherworkersgreetthebee.Totellwherethenectarandpollencamefrom,theworkerdoesadance.Thewaythebeemovestellswherethegardenis.Theotherbeesrushofftogetmorenectarandpollen. Theworkerbeeclimbsovermanyotherbees.Mostofthemareworkerbees,too.Onebeeisbiggerthananyother.Itisthequeen.Herjobistolayeggs.Athirdkindofbee,thedrone,doesnothaveastinger.Itsjobistomatewiththequeen. Theworkergivesthenectarandpollentoanotherworkerbee.Thisbeehasthejobofmakingfood.Oncethebeehasdelivereditsload,itfliesoutagain.Inall,thisworkerbeewillmakeabouttentripseachday.Itmightflyasfarassixmilesaway.Nowthat’sabusybee!

Wecannotseetherootsofthetree.Therootsgrowdeepintothedirt.Theykeepthetreefromfallingover.Rootsalsohavelittletubesinside.Theytakeinwaterandnutrientsfromthedirtandmovethemupintothetrunk.Thesethingsmakethetreestrongandhealthy. Seedsareanothertreepart.Theymayforminflowers,cones,ornuts.Theyfallonthegroundandstarttogrow.Itwilltakemanyyears,butatinyseedwillonedaygrowintoatalltree.

Itwasthefirstdayofsummervacation.Gavinwasexcited.Hehaddecidedtojumpoffthedivingboardatthecommunitypool! Lastsummer,manyofGavin’sfriendsjumpedoffthedivingboard.Gavinwatchedthem,butheknewhewasnotreadytojump.Instead,hepracticedhisswimmingstrokeswhiletheytookturnsjumpingoffthedivingboard.Thentheyallswamandplayedtogether. WhenGavinwokeupthismorning,heknewhewasreadytojumpoffthedivingboard.Hewaslookingforwardtoit.Hehoppedoutofbedandwenttothekitchentoeatsomeoatmeal. Justthen,Gavin’sunclecameintothekitchenforhiscoffee.HetoldGavintheycouldgotothepoolthatafternoon.WhenGavintoldhisunclethatheplannedtojumpoffthedivingboard,hisunclepattedhimontheshoulder.“Iknowyoucandoit,”hesaidencouragingly. InsomeplacespeoplemakespecialNewYear’sbread.Whenthebreadisbeingmade,thebakerputsagoldcoininthedough.Thecoingetsmixedupinthebreaddoughandisbakedinsidethebread.Nooneknowswherethecoinis.Afterthebreadisbaked,itiscutintopieces.Itisluckytogetthepieceofbreadwiththecoin.Allofthepeoplechewcarefully.Theywonderwhotheluckypersonwillbe. InthecountryofDenmark,peoplesavetheirbrokendishesallyear.OnNewYear’sEve,theythrowthebrokendishesatfriends’doors.IfyouwakeuponthefirstdayoftheNewYearandfindalotofbrokendishes,youarehappy.Findingalotofdishesmeansyouhavemanyfriends. DadandCraigwenttothecountertorentskates.Thentheysatonabenchandlaceduptheirskates.Loudmusicplayed,andCraigsangalongwiththesong.Redandbluelightsflashed,callingtheskaterstothewoodenfloor. Together,DadandCraigstoodup.Craigwasabitshakyonfourwheels.Dadhadaneasiertimeskating,rememberingtheskatinghedidasaboy.Theybothmovedclosertotherinkandenteredthroughagate.Dadledtheway.Craighadahardtimeatfirst.Heclungtothewall,inchingslowlyaroundtherink.DaddidonelapandskateduptoCraig.HetookCraig’shandandledhimawayfromthewall.Soon,Craigfounditeasiertoskate.HeletgoofDad’shandandwasskatingonhisown.Craigsmiled.SkatingwithDadwasalotoffun.
