Dear Program Provider, Welcome to the After School Matters Program ProvidersNewsletter! This monthly newsletter wil l help to shareupdates, resources and instructional strategies, as well ascelebrate the successes of our teens and build communityamong our program providers. Enjoy!

Program Updates

Teen Interview Outcomes An interview outcome (Recommend Enroll, Do Not Enroll, NotInterviewed, Recommend Audit) must be entered by Friday,July 22 for all teens who are not on the waitl ist for aprogram (teens whose names appear in black on theinterview tab), unless a waitl isted teen wasinterviewed. notified. If their item doesn't sell within two programsessions, it may be returned to them. If teens would l ike topurchase their work, they must complete the Teen ArtworkPurchasing form, which is available in the document sectionof Cityspan.

Summer 2016 CTA/Ventra Guidelines Teens who receive reduced student transit fare during theschool year, and who are not yet graduated, are eligible toreceive the same reduced fare during the summer programsession, provided their CPS ID# is accurate in Cityspan bythe first week of programs.

Teens who do not already receive reduced student transitfare wil l need to contact their high schools aboutpurchasing a student fare card as soon as possible.

Teens Without A Permanent AddressOur Finance and Programs Departments wil l work withLiaisons to ensure that teens who do not have a permanentaddress receive their stipend checks in a secure and timelymanner. To ensure these checks will not be mailed, pleasecontact your Program Specialist if a teen tells you they haveno permanent address. After School Matters BranchesAfter School Matters is organized into three branches:North/Northwest Branch, South/Southwest Branch andDowntown Branch!

Discover Swarthmore Discover Swarthmore affords students the opportunity tovisit one of the best l iberal arts colleges in the country, al lexpenses paid (including fl ight/ground transportation,lodging, meals). The program will provide participants witha taste of the college experience.

Discover Swarthmore is open to all rising high schoolseniors. Nominations for this opportunity are due byThursday, June 30, 2016. Nominations can be submittedhere.

Raise.meRaise.me is a social enterprise focused on expanding accessto higher education, especially among low income and firstgeneration students. Rather than waiting until the end ofhigh school to earn scholarships, Raise.me enables studentsto earn scholarships throughout high school, starting asearly as 9th grade.

Program Provider Highlight: Susana Banuelos Aztec Dance Chicago

Susana Banuelos is the instructor for Aztec Dance Chicago.She has been an After School Matters instructor for morethan eight years. In Aztec Dance Chicago, teens learn aboutpre-Hispanic and contemporary Aztec-Nahua culture, andperform dances, musical rhythms, and songs. Every cycle,Susana works hard to offer her teens field trips to helpdevelop transferable professional skil ls. This Spring, herteens had the opportunity to participate in workshopsincluding Mock Interviews/Resume Writing with the LatinoAssociation Business Students (LABS) at UIC and PersonalBranding with the Hispanic All iance Career Enhancement(HACE) at the Rafael Cintron-Ortiz Latino Cultural Center. Additionally, this Spring, Aztec Dance Chicago participatedin Speak Life: The Mama Brenda Arts & Poetry Set where theyperformed a ritual commemorating Mama Brenda, and AfterSchool Matters instructor who passed away unexpectedly in2011.
