IMPENDING FACTORS OF TOURISM’S DEVELOPMENT IN CRETE
• High degree of seasonality which affects the cost and the quality of the touristic product
• Incomplete connections of transport – problems in accessibility and transport infrastructures and relevant services
• Incomplete public infrastructures in the gates of entrance of the island
• The creation of a negative atmosphere (internationally) from the media concerning the socio-political situation in Greece due to the instability of its political scenery
• The belief of many people, that Crete as a touristic destination has started to decline, that is that after several years, the touristic product of the area has been devaluated and that unless it is renewed, the area will depopulate.

SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS IN LOCAL LEVEL
• the touristic enterprise community asks for the foundation of a single, independent organization in a Cretan level, for the development, management and promotion of touristic products of the island as a single touristic destination. The organization will have to take in charge of the promotion of Crete as a single destination. (Destination Management Organization).
• It is demanded that measures should be taken for the prolongation of the touristic season,
• Development of cruise tourism, with the creation of appropriate infrastructures (creation of cruise passenger terminals)
• Better promotion and projection in the alternative forms of tourism that enhance sustainability and fight seasonality
