MODFLOW, conceptual model development, numerical model implementation,
developing groundwater flow model using Visual MODFLOW, model calibration
and model predictions. It is specifically designed for implementing agencies of the
National Hydrology Project. Basic knowledge of groundwater hydrology is required
for participation. Hands-on modelling experience with PCs will serve to introduce
the necessary concepts and theory.

Customized Training Course on ‘Groundwater Flow Modelling Using MODFLOW’ during 14-18 Jan., 2019 at Trivandrum, Kerala.
COURSE INFORMATION
Agenda1. The first day of the course will focus on developing a strong fundamental understanding
of numerical groundwater flow models that are used for predicting groundwater flow. The day will begin with an introductory overview of groundwater flow modelling followed by necessary ideas and tools to develop the groundwater flow models which are routinely used for modelling in porous aquifer media.
2. The morning of the second day will focus on aquifer characterisation, regional aquifer system of Peninsular India and geophysical exploration. In the afternoon session, application of different tools and aspects such as remote sensing and GIS for groundwater flow modelling.
3. The third day will be beginning by the aquifer parameter estimation, which shall be used during the modelling process followed by comprehensive demonstration of Visual MODFLOW with practical sessions where the participants will have the opportunity to develop a numerical model. This shall demonstrate various steps involved in the flow modelling from conceptualization to interpretation of modelling results. Thereafter, the modelling of the Ramganga basin using Visual MODFLOW will be described.
4. The fourth day will be continuing the exercise problem on the Ramganga basin modelling. This shall demonstrate setting up of the flow model and running of Visual MODFLOW.
5. The morning session of fifth day shall mainly focus on analysis and interpretation of the flow modelling results of the Ramganga basin. The afternoon session will be focusing on team exercise where participants should be in a position to perform the groundwater flow modelling.
6. After intensive modelling instructions, participants will have knowledge of groundwater models, enabling them to begin with evaluating real-field situations by using models.
Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of the course, the participants should be:
1. Familiar with the principles and procedures of the groundwater flow modelling2. Able to construct a groundwater flow model using the state-of-the-art modelling
