“Dana takes her family to visit her estranged father, Richard, some months after her Mother’s death. He has lived alone for fifteen years and the visit disturbs moments in their past he has been fighting to protect for years.”
My script is currently in first draft due to other productions taking priority and a complete alteration of my original idea. I am confident that I will be ready to cast by the 25th February.
Journal
I’ve been using Tumblr to blog online and record my progress since last year. I find it useful to jot down ideas, thoughts and inspirations in a physical notepad when
I’m travelling or without access to a computer. I then spend a few hours
every week writing everything up.
Freelance Work
SIPPOI have been working with the Swiss company, SIPPO on a number of projects,
in particular, editing the two promotional videos I shot in Zurich and Munich in October. The first video has been received well and will appear on their website at the end of this week.
I am currently editing sixteen separate videos for each South African Tourism company that I interviewed during the project.
I am hoping that I will be able to collaborate and possibly gain some more freelance work through these individual companies.
DeafwayI recently finished the final edit of a fundraising video for the St. Anthony’s
school for the Deaf that I shot in Uganda last year. It has been shown to trustees in the UK and will be viewed at the school this week.
I have began work on an edit of the documentary footage I filmed during my trip.
Future Plans
I am currently awaiting the release of applications for the BBC training scheme and talent pool. This requires in-depth research into the role of Production Manager Assistant. If successful, I will begin a years contract from September onwards.
After my recent volunteer work with Casting Director, Janet Hampson, I feel that I have a better grasp of the casting profession and have discussed possible assistant work in the future.
Challenges
Producing four films, production managing one, alongside my freelance work, a bar job and deciding what to do when I graduate is difficult to balance. However, I feel I have now effectively time managed each project so that the appropriate amount of time is given to each film.
Despite the worrying fact that my script has not been developed or made it past it’s first draft, I am confident that I will, through use of some well established contacts and a dedicated production team create a successful film.
There may be a few difficulties that become apparent when shooting ‘Seafront’ in Wales, I have allowed time for transportation to be organised, and Christian has put aside a substantial budget to cover expenses and needs of the actors throughout the shoot.
I still need to put some time aside to focus on my directing so that I do not neglect my commitment to the role, which will have huge impact on the success of ‘Negative Affirmation’, working with Sophie Eve Sayeed as my production manager will take some strain off the difficulty of working as Producer/Director.
