St. Bonaventure University willwelcome a former journalism studentand acclaimed writer to campus whenPatricia Kennealy-Morrison, widowof the late musician Jim Morrison,visits the campus.
Kennealy-Morrison will visitcampus April 19-21 to speak withjournalism classes. She will alsospeak about her 1992 memoir,“Strange Days: My Life With andWithout Jim Morrison,” at 7 p.m.Thursday, April 20, in the DresserAuditorium of the John J. MurphyProfessional Building. The public isinvited.
Kennealy-Morrison, author of“The Keltiad,” the acclaimed seriesof Celtic science-fantasy novels —ancient legends transported to outerspace, King Arthur meets “Star Wars”— was born in New York City andhas lived there all her adult life. Shegrew up in North Babylon, N.Y., andattended St. Bonaventure Universitybefore transferring to and graduatingfrom Harpur College (nowBinghamton University) with a bach-elor’s degree in English literature.
From 1968 to 1971, she was the
editor-in-chief of Jazz & Pop, a well-respected progressive music maga-zine, and is considered one of thefirst female rock critics.
“The Copper Crown,” her firstKeltiad book, was published in 1984,and the eighth, “The Deer’s Cry,” in1999. She recently finished writing“The Crystal Ship: The Priestess andThe Shaman — The Spiritual Voyageof Patricia & Jim Morrison,” a spiri-tual memoir, and “The Gates ofOverwave,” a children’s fairytale.
Kennealy-Morrison is working onthe ninth Keltiad book (“The Cloakof Gold”); a mystery series; a histori-cal novel about King Alfred theGreat’s Viking adversary, Guthrumthe Dane; a feature/interview withbig-wave surfer Laird Hamilton onthe spirituality of surfing; venturinginto songwriting and developing sev-eral projects for movies and televi-sion.
In January 1969 she met JimMorrison, lead singer of The Doors,in a private interview; they were mar-ried in a Celtic wedding ceremony inJune 1970. He died July 3, 1971, inParis.

The Department ofVisual and PerformingArts at St. BonaventureUniversity will wrapup the student musicconcert season withthree performanceslater this month.
At 2 p.m. Sunday,April 23, student vocal-ists, pianists andensembles will be fea-tured in a ChamberMusic Concert. Musicwill include classicalworks for soloists, aswell as modern andjazz-influenced piecesperformed by the SBUFlute, Percussion andString ensembles.
At 7:30 p.m.Wednesday, April 26,the SBU Jazz Bandwill take the stage in aconcert of big bandjazz. The band willperform pieces writtenby its director, Dr.Leslie Sabina, chair of
the Department ofVisual and PerformingArts, and will also fea-ture the SBUSaxophone Quartet andFlute Ensemble.
Finally, at 2 p.m.Sunday, April 30, theSBU Concert Choir
and Concert Band willpresent their annualSpring Concert. Thisconcert will also fea-ture the newly formedSBU CommunityOrchestra in its pre-miere performance.
“The student ensem-bles and soloists show-case the high talentlevel present at SBU,”said Sabina. “The com-munity will beimpressed with thevariety of music pre-sented in this series ofconcerts. There'ssomething for every-one.”
ST. BONAVENTURE’S STUDENT MUSICIANS OFFER TRIPLE TREAT THIS MONTH
St. Bonaventure University’s concert band
St. Bonaventure Universitywill welcome noted historianDr. Robert Buzzanco to cam-pus on Thursday, April 27,when he will give a lecturetitled “Is Iraq Really AnotherVietnam?” at 7:30 p.m. inDresser Auditorium of theJohn J. Murphy ProfessionalBuilding.
The evening, sponsored bythe Visiting ScholarsCommittee, the Department ofHistory, and the Olean AreaCoalition for Peace andJustice, is free and open to thepublic.
Buzzanco is a history pro-fessor at the University ofHouston, where he specializesin studies of U.S. foreign poli-cy and the military-industrial
complex. “Robert Buzzanco is a
respected diplomatic historianwho is one of our profession’sleading experts on theVietnam War,” said Dr. MarkHuddle, assistant professor ofhistory at St. BonaventureUniversity. “His books on theperiod are on everyones’ must-read list.”
Buzzanco has authoredmany articles and books onAmerican foreign policy andimperialism. His first book,“Master of War: MilitaryDissent and Politics in theVietnam Era,” won the StuartBernath Prize for best book in1996. The prize recognizesdistinguished research andwriting by a scholar of
American Foreign Relations.Buzzanco also received theStuart Bernath Lecture Prize,which is awarded to an out-standing younger scholar inthe field of U.S. foreign rela-tions, in 1999.
Buzzanco’s expertise inforeign affairs has led tonumerous interviews bynational and international
news media over the past sev-eral years, including the BBC,National Public Radio, theFinancial Times, TheIndependent (London),National Zeitung (Munich),Al-Jazeera, the ChristianScience Monitor, Cox NewsService, the Pakistan Times,the Islamic News Network, LaPrensa (Managua), and ElDiario Hoy (San Salvador).He has also appeared as aguest on a local radio pro-grams in a number of cities.
“Bob epitomizes the schol-ar-activist,” said Huddle. “Youcan’t separate his work fromhis politics. He’s put his aca-demic labors forward in theservice of movements forsocial justice and as such he’sbeen a real inspiration to a lotof us. His visit here is a realtreat.”
