Now let’s talk business!
Expanding Our Consortia Relationships
Working with consortia to sell, distribute and market APA
databases.
Bridging the Gap Between APA and Consortia
• Proactive effort to work with consortia and member institutions
• Do not want to depend solely on vendor partners• We are the content experts• We establish pricing for the data• We want to work with you to make your
institutions aware and knowledgeable about APA products
Working Closer With You: Increasing Our Visibility
• Consortia meeting attendance: SCELC Vendor Day, Virginia Library Association, Waldo database committee…..ICOLC
• On-site visits: IDAL, WILS, VIVA, LOUIS• On-site visits overseas: The Netherlands,
Belgium, United Kingdom, Germany
• Meetings at trade shows
Working Closer With You…
• Database Web Site & Library Resource
• APA Breakfasts
• APA Library Advisory Council
• Training sessions at ALA, MLA, SLA
Working together: Spreading the Word on Content
• Providing new product updates for consortia e-mail blasts and list serves-Minitex, ELN, IDAL and CHEST
• Increased training via on-line tutorials, webcasts and in person instruction
• Additional sales people to focus on customer needs and customer relationships
Current Pricing
• Current Pricing: FTE Model-Undergraduate, graduate, professional & non-degree-seeking students
• FTE model used for pricing PI, PA, PB & PE• Baccalaureate and less than Baccalaureate price
categories• PsycCRITIQUES: $500.00 data fee plus platform fee
Pricing Issues
• Site license model: Is it a reliable model for pricing institutions?
• Should we consider a straight FTE model based on potential access population and not based on physical site?
• How should alumni access be considered in the pricing model? What is your policy on alumni access?
PsycARTICLES Backfiles
• Pricing model—sale or license
• Response in the marketplace—license
• Continued licensing will depend on usage
• No significant upfront expense
• Pricing based on % of current data fee
APA Archival Policy
• PsycARTICLES
• PsycBOOKS
• PsycCRITIQUES
• PsycEXTRA
PsycARTICLES Archiving Policy
• License sites retain the right to access articles that entered the database during the period the license was active, but not the backfile of releases from previous years
PsycARTICLES Archiving Policy Example
– XYZ University licenses PsycARTICLES on January 1, 2005.
– XYZ University renews for the next two years but lets the license expire on December 31, 2007 and does not renew for 2008
– XYZ University retains the right to use content from the journal publication years 2005-2007 without paying a data fee
– Vendor or APA will still charge a service fee to provide access and search interface to use the content
Licensing Issues
• Authorized users• Athens authentication• Course packs and electronic reserve
collections• Inter-library loan• Terms & conditions on the Website• Secure access
