Biography

Ana Sanchez isMemberof theBoardofDirectorsofFundaçãoparaaCiênciaeaTecnologia(FCT).BeforejoiningFCT,shewashead of the Communications and Science Awareness Office atthe Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) of theUniversidadeNOVAde Lisboa and amemberof theMostmicroresearch unit. Ana Sanchez is also a lecturer in sciencecommunication,attheUniversidadeNOVAdeLisboa.

With a degree in Biology, from the Faculdade de Ciências daUniversidade de Lisboa, Ana Sanchez was a student of theGulbenkianPhDProgramme inBiology andMedicine (PGDBM),

havingobtainedaPhdinBiologyfromtheKatholiekeUniversiteitNijmegen,Netherlands,in2001. On returning to Portugal, she led a research project at ITQB, as a post-doctoralresearcher.Sheistheauthorof10scientificpapers.

In2005,sheacceptedthechallengeofsettinguptheITQB’scommunicationsoffice,whichshe led since then. In this role, she developed ITQB’s institutional communications,establishedasciencecommunicationprogrammeinvolvingresearchersandwasanadvisortotheITQBBoardinseveralareas.Shehascoordinatedandparticipatedinseveralscienceawareness projects funded by the national agency Ciência Viva, as well as EU-fundedprojects,andisanactivememberofthePortuguesecommunityofsciencecommunicators:shewas involved in settingup the SciCom.Pt association, ofwhich she is Presidentof theGeneralAssembly.

Ana Sanchez is one of the creators and coordinators of the Masters in ScienceCommunication of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. She also coordinates the sciencecommunication modules of three FCT-funded PhD Programmes and two sciencecommunicationcoursesoftheNOVADoctoralSchool.
