ANA SANCHEZ Biography Ana Sanchez is Member of the Board of Directors of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). Before joining FCT, she was head of the Communications and Science Awareness Office at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and a member of the Mostmicro research unit. Ana Sanchez is also a lecturer in science communication, at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. With a degree in Biology, from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Ana Sanchez was a student of the Gulbenkian PhD Programme in Biology and Medicine (PGDBM), having obtained a Phd in Biology from the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 2001. On returning to Portugal, she led a research project at ITQB, as a post-doctoral researcher. She is the author of 10 scientific papers. In 2005, she accepted the challenge of setting up the ITQB’s communications office, which she led since then. In this role, she developed ITQB’s institutional communications, established a science communication programme involving researchers and was an advisor to the ITQB Board in several areas. She has coordinated and participated in several science awareness projects funded by the national agency Ciência Viva, as well as EU-funded projects, and is an active member of the Portuguese community of science communicators: she was involved in setting up the SciCom.Pt association, of which she is President of the General Assembly. Ana Sanchez is one of the creators and coordinators of the Masters in Science Communication of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. She also coordinates the science communication modules of three FCT-funded PhD Programmes and two science communication courses of the NOVA Doctoral School. Ana Sanchez was born in Lisbon, in 1972.
