BAND AND INSTRUMENTAL
Gordon Lucas - Instrumental
Gordon Lucas is a well-known Canadian violinist and composer, and is
currently conductor and music director of the Northern Orchestra of B.C.
Mr. Lucas has vast experience in all facets of music and music education. He
taught band in the public school system in Langley and Golden, and has also
taught music appreciation courses at both University of Northern BC and
College of New Caledonia in Vanderhoof.
Mr. Lucas has played both violin and bass trombone in professional
symphony orchestras in Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria and for 17 years, he
was Concertmaster of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, a job which
allowed him time to write the symphonic music for which he is known across this country as well as
in the United States and Europe. During his tenure as Concertmaster in Prince George, he also played
bass trombone for “In the Mood,” the city's well-known jazz band.
Mr. Lucas also has been resident composer for both Victoria Symphony and Prince George
Symphony. In university, he studied clarinet, was principal of the symphonic wind ensemble, and
was a teaching assistant in the piano department. He feels strongly that as a composer, he should have
a complete knowledge of the performing capabilities of all sections of the orchestra.

Adele Clark - Vocal
Adele Clark’s teaching and performance experience span over twenty five years. After
obtaining her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia she
completed her Master’s degree with a major in opera performance. She served as
assistant to the Director of Opera studies at University of British Columbia where she
also taught voice. Her private studio was established in 1991 and is a thriving enterprise.
Many of Ms. Clark’s students have gone on to post secondary education in music and
professional performing careers. The constant challenge of staying current in vocal
pedagogy and performance practices is very exciting to her. Enthusiasm and a positive
approach keep Ms. Clark in demand as an adjudicator, clinician, and workshop teacher
across Canada.
With a diversified repertoire from opera to cabaret Ms. Clark’s repertoire includes roles as wide-ranging as
Nellie Lovett in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd to the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and Adele in Die
Fledermaus, as well as a large collection of crazy ladies and women of dubious repute. Her directing credits
include opera, cabaret and musical theatre for professional and community theatre.
Ms. Clark is a long standing member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Voice
Foundation (professional level), Music Teachers National Association, the B.C Registered Music Teachers’
Association, and the Canadian Actor’s Equity Union.
