MAP CORNER Many genealogists have not been successful in locating Eastern European villages and towns on available maps. The Jewish Genealogical Society's map specialist, Freya Mas1ov, has a vast collection of Eastern European maps, some dating to 1790. If you would like a detailed map with a village highlighted, send the following information:
- phonetic spelling of the village name and the various ways it might have been spelled
- the approximate area to be searched listing the province or guberniya (district)
- the names of other towns near your village
Please print all information and include a #10 SASE and $2.50 for each village you wish to locate. Make check payable to the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois and mail to: Map Department - JGSI - Mrs. Freya Mas1ov, 5819 W. Keeney Street, Morton Grove, IL 60053.
If a village or town cannot be located, your check will be returned and in future issues of the quarterly, SEARCH, readership will be asked for their assistance.

Baden-Wurttemberg. Persons named in the book came to the U. S. between the early 1700's and the Revolutionary tolar. Of particular interest are vessels of immigrants from this region in 1727 and 1732. The volume of about 400 pages is extensively indexed, containing illustrations of the villages the settlers left, as well as buildings, tombstones, artifacts, and documents they had in America. This is the first of a series of volumes the Society hopes to publish on emigrants from various areas of Europe. For information on the 1982 Yearbook, write: The Pennsylvania German Society, P. O. Anyone interested in the Ohio areas where their ancestors came from might want to look into Jim Baker's Historical Handbooks, a series of small paperbacks, covering various aspects of life in and around the Ohio frontier. Two titles in the Ohio series are: How Our Counties Got Their Names (the historical events surrounding the naming of Ohio's 88 counties); and For the Ohio Country: the settlements at Marietta and Gallipolis (the story of two of Ohio's earliest settlements). Other titles in the Historical Series also include Forts in the Forest: Kentucky in the Year of the Bloody Sevens (from the original pages of the newspaper adventure strip, Ben Hardy); The Big Ditch: small stories o~he Ohio Canals (life on the canals, including a map of the system); Frontier Medicine (medical practices and beliefs of our ancestors); and Naming the States (an historically accurate as possible origin of the names of each of our fifty states). For a comr plete list of Mr. Baker's handbooks, write: Heartland House, c/o Jim Baker, P. O. Box 149, Worthington, OH 43085
