The Jewish Genealogical Society's map special­ist, Freya Mas1ov, has a vast col­lection of Eastern European maps, some dating to 1790. If you would like a detailed map with a village highlighted, send the following in­formation:

- phonetic spelling of the village name and the various ways it might have been spelled

- the approximate area to be searched listing the province or guberniya (district)

- the names of other towns near your village

Early Eighteenth Century Palatine Emigration, by Walter Allen Knittle, Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Co., 1979, (originally published 1937), 320 pp. Appendices in this work list alpha­betically some 12,000 Palatines who came to America roughly between 1708 and 1723. The main text contains a scholarly study of the Palatines and the event in Europe that in­fluenced emigration to the U.S. Settlements in Ire­land, North Carolina, New York and Pennsylvania are discussed at length. A very nice bibliography is given. The text is indexed, although the lists of emi­grants are not included.

Baden-Wurttemberg. Persons named in the book came to the U. S. between the early 1700's and the Revolutionary tolar. Of particular interest are vessels of immigrants from this region in 1727 and 1732. The volume of about 400 pages is extensively in­dexed, containing illustra­tions of the villages the settlers left, as well as buildings, tombstones, artifacts, and documents they had in America.
