Germanic Tribes

Economy

• Started with bartering goods but then started using roman coins when romans invaded.

• Men did most of the work but, women were treated as equal and allowed to work normal jobs and join the military.

• At the beginning they raided each other for food and supply later, they helped each other by farming, hunting, and trading.

Political

• Each tribe is run by a chief warlord and his family.

• Each chief has 3-8+ son’s, who have to fight each other, greatest leader, or the most favored to become the next chief.

Religion

• The tribes were Norse pagans.• They believe the more you fight the more

likely get sent to Valhalla(heaven) and live with there gods.

• They believe in mythical creatures like dragons, ogres, orcs, and valkyries.

Marriage

• Marriage was mainly decided by the head of the family.

• Marriage was usually use for political use or a reason to declare war.

Clothing and Housing

• The Germanic people wore more then what the romans said.

• They use rock huts and longhouses for homes.

culture

• The culture of the tribes is mainly fighting for sport or family feuds.

• They spoke a twist of modern German and Indo-German.

A clockwise swastika was first used by 2 rival families to end they’re hate against one another.(counterclockwise means death and war AKA Nazis)

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest

• Head of the Germanic alliance Arminius lead the Germanic forces and destroyed 3 whole Roman legions

Territory

• Before the Roman invasion each tribe had its own borders(top). When the roman empire was defeated each Germanic tribe became they’re own kingdom which became modern countries.

Arminius

• Born 17BC died 19-21AD.• First German hero.• Killed by his own brother.• Defeated 3 roman legions.• Given the title Liberator of

Europe.

Late Life

• After the Roman empire and Attila defeated the Germanic tribes had spread through out Europe and founded the kingdoms of France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holy Roman Empire(Germany), and Saxony England. More kingdoms were to be created in time.

Childhood

• At age 6 was the age for a child (boys and girls) to start they’re life.

• Boys tested for physical and mental health while girls were tested only for mental health.

• If a girl is in a very physical condition they were asked if they wanted to join the military.(most of them say yes)

• A boy was considered a man after his first kill in battle which was at age 14.

Food

• Main food for the Chief and his family was Boar, Alcohol Drink(unknown), and what ever they have.

• Normal man either hunt for themselves or the rotten or uncooked leftovers from the chiefs cook.

My Opinion

• I believe that the Germanic tribes were one of Europeans greatest Nations. To take on a empire that’s 4x the size of you and you were fighting each other before then and then win gets all my respect. Then moving out and making they’re own kingdoms instead of one empire was better.
