WHAT IS ZOOBURST?

A digital storytelling tool that allows you to create 3-D pop up books.

Allows children of any age to create their own story and watch it come to life.

All you need is the internet, running the Adobe flash player.

The site contains over 10,000 free images and materials to create your book.

You can share your books with others by using a hyperlink, they can also be embedded into any website or blog.

Authors of a book can hold a discussion for their book that they created.

If your computer has a camera you can used the augmented reality feature.

You can hold up a special symbol and your items will jump out of the page and moves around the room.

By waving your hand across the camera you can turn the pages of your book.

ZOOBURST AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL

It gives students new ways to tell stories, deliver presentations, write reports and express ideas.

It has a “classroom management” tool for teachers to use to protect their students while using zooburst.

Teachers can create user names and passwords without students having to give out any personal information.

If you upgrade to the premium account you can use audio and speech integration and have unlimited access to downloading books.

LET’S GET STARTED

Go to www.zooburst.com

Go to register and fill in your information.

Your password will then be sent to your e-mail that you provide.

Sometimes the email may go into the SPAM folder so if you don’t receive it in a few minutes check there.

Click personal or teacher account and then sign in.

Basic accounts are free and can be created by anyone over the age of 13 and who has a valid e-mail address.

CREATE A BOOK

You can put in a short description, choose your privacy settings and choose whether or not people can comment on it.

You can also choose to add a password so only people who know your password can view it.

Then click save and it will take you to the book builder, where you add images, words sounds and animation.

Drag and drop the items right on to the page, you can also change the background color, and color of your book.

You can search, draw or upload images, to see the images you have uploaded just click the briefcase icon.

The blue filing cabinet icon will contain all of the images in your book.

OTHER TOOLS

The pencil icon opens up the drawing canvas to create your own images.

The yellow star is a stamping tool.

Using the camera you can take a picture of yourself to add to the book, you can use this feature to crop the picture and put your head on another body.

After drawing an image make sure you click save.

Everything has to stay on the surface of the book pages in order for it to appear in the book.

You can add speech bubbles to your characters to make them “speak”, premium accounts can actually record sound for their characters and add sound effects.

You can create up to 10 pages with a basic account and 50 with a premium account.

You can save your book and premium members can print them out.

ZOOBURST PROFILE

All users have a public profile that displays basic information about the user.

It contains:

Links to your books

Your location

Your website

Your photo and About me

CREATING A CLASS

Using the classroom management feature teachers can create a class and add students making sharing books easier.

Your classroom will have a homepage that all students in the class will have access to.

Students log in by clicking the ‘student’ option at sign in and using the information provided by the teacher.

The teacher can set up privacy options to protect the students and their work.
