Leave the grey skies of Englandbehind and enjoy this newadaptation of a much-loved bookthat has never lost its appeal fromgeneration to generation.

Gerald Durrell looks back at hisunconventional upbringing on thesun-soaked island of Corfu with hiseccentric family in a landscape rich innatural and cultural life.

Enjoying a life of freedom andadventure, Gerald is intrepid in hispursuit of an extraordinary array ofexotic animals and reptiles that lead tohis life-long love of the natural world.

The wry observations of a curiousyoung boy do not stop at the animalkingdom, but also offer a richly comicview of the hilarious encounters of hisbohemian family, their friends and thelocal population.

Sometimes it's pretty hard to tell themapart... My family and the animals, that is. I don't know why my brothersand sisters complain so much. Withsnakes in the bath and scorpions onthe lunch table, our house, on theisland of Corfu, is a bit like a circus. Sothey should feel right at home...

York’s community has a longstanding reputation for stagingMystery Plays and this production isan exciting stepping stone towardsproducing the 2012 York MysteryPlays in the Museum Gardens.

In the shadow of York Minsterlabourers from the Painter’s Guild arepreparing to perform their Mysteryplay for the festival of Corpus Christi. To their surprise King Richard II andQueen Anne arrive in the city toescape the political intrigues of theLondon Court. Suddenly, from theMayor to the marketplace, the entirecommunity of York explodes in a feverof affectation, expense and hilariousposturing as rival guilds battle it out toimpress the royal party with theirwagon plays.

But, as thousands of communityMystery players have proved here over the years, it only takes two planks and a passion to put on thebest show of all.

A wonderfully funny and poignant playabout the people and history of York, this is Anthony Minghella at his mostglorious.
