YOUTH TRACKDAY 1 WHAT IN THE “WORD” IS GOING ON?

PRAYLord Jesus, your Word takes a place of honor in my life. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Let your power radiate in my life that I may,

like the members of the Early Church, lead others to you, no matter what it costs.

READ Acts 1.1—2.47The book of Acts tells of the dramatic accounts of what the apostles and the Early Church accomplished and endured, and

it literally takes one’s breath away. The birth pains are harsh, but the joy that comes from the work of the Holy Spirit makes

them worthwhile. There are conflicts within the Church, and outside of it. There are issues of prejudice and race; miraculous

healings and martyrdom, riots and revivals, but all in all, God’s message finds its way into the hearts and lives of God’s

people.

The writers of these Journeys did so from the heart, pulling out from their very being what the Spirit was saying to them. Luke,

the writer of the book of Acts, records Peter’s speech to those who stood in amazement when the Holy Spirit rested on those

gathered in “one place” at the time of Pentecost. They wondered what in the world was going on, and Peter explained: “When

the last days come, I will give my Sprit to everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions…”

(Acts 2.17). It is fitting then, that these youth should share the Word, in their own voice, as the Spirit of God gives them

utterance.

REFLECTHow are you encouraging those around you to share God’s Word? Are you empowering them? Do you know that every

believer, no matter how old or young, has a story to share?

RESPONDContinue in God’s Word. Read and study Scripture daily. Join a Bible study group or meet with believers who will encourage

you in God’s Word. Check out the Acts 1.8 Assignment at NowActs.com/Act and do something worthwhile in the life of

someone else. Travel light for the journey ahead!

Lord, as we commit to reading and studying about the birth of the Early Church and the men and women whom you commissioned to spread the gospel, I pray you will give us your Spirit and a vision of building your kingdom. Amen.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 2 RELAX, GOD IS IN CONTROL

PRAY Lord, help me to depend on you and be confident that you always keep your promises.

READ Acts 1.1-26After Jesus’ resurrection, his followers seemed anxious about the future. But Jesus promised them it would be alright. Before

he ascended to heaven, Jesus told them that the Father would give them the Holy Spirit as a helper. It is the Holy Spirit that

guides and directs our lives. We just need to stop worrying and trust in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes, there are things that we want too quickly. We have dreams and goals and in our haste we tell God “I want it

now!” It seems we forget that God has chosen us and that he will use our gifts and talents for his glory, in his own time. As

the story of the book of Acts opens, Jesus’ followers learn that God is above us, around us, and in us. He never leaves us or

forsakes us. That’s great news—we can chill, God is in control!

REFLECTSometimes life can get overwhelming and hard to manage, but our best friend, Jesus, tells us to lean on him. Are you willing

to break old habits? Are you willing to replace them with new ones that honor God? The angels told Jesus’ followers that

Jesus will come back again. Think about it. How does it make you feel?

RESPONDMaybe you want to trust in Jesus, but don’t know where to start. Try small things like reading one chapter of the Bible daily

so that you can find God’s promises for your life. If you are willing, your heart can be changed by God’s awesome Spirit.

It’s a decision you won’t regret.

Lord, I am glad you have my back and I can just relax because I know you have everything covered. Thank you for the Holy Spirit which controls my life.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 3 CALLED TO BE OUT FRONT!

PRAYGod, thank you that I am the head and not the tail, I am above and not beneath. I’ve been called to lead others to you, and I am

honored.

READ Acts 2.1-47On the day of Pentecost, the room was filled with the presence of God. Just as Jesus had promised, the Holy Spirit came

on Jesus’ followers like a bolt of fire. When it fell on each person, they began speaking different languages. Imagine that! A

bunch of believers from different nations who had gathered in Jerusalem to seek God’s face, were surprised to hear these

followers speaking languages they did not know. Soon a crowd gathered around and mocked the people who were praying

and speaking these new languages because they looked drunk and weird. But Peter, who not too long before had acted

grimy by denying he knew Jesus, was now the front man for the group. He explained that the people were not weird or drunk.

What the crowd was seeing, up close and personal, was really a prophecy, told by the prophet Joel, coming true. God had

promised to send the Holy Spirit to his people and it was happening, just as God had said!

Many times you will be mocked by the world for following Jesus, but don’t worry about it because Jesus himself was mocked,

yet he overcame everything evil in the world.

REFLECTAre you willing to be a leader for God and not a follower after the things the world offers? Do you find your worth in what

others think or say about you?

RESPOND Although we live in a fallen world where sinning is the cool thing to do, our mission is to lead others to Jesus and discourage

them from following what seems pleasurable at the moment. This week, take time to introduce someone to Jesus who is the

way, the truth, and the life (John 14.6).

Lord, when I’m out front, remind me that I’m there to rep you, and you alone. Give me courage and let me not back down no matter how others may mock me.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 4 IN THE NAME OF JESUS! – A DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE

PRAYLord Jesus, thank you for the power that your name carries.

READ Acts 3.1-26While Peter and John were making their way to the temple to get their church on, a lame man, sitting in front of the gate, begs

them money. The two men tell him to look at them, and the lame guy thinks he’s getting money. But then, Peter tells the guy

that he doesn’t have any money but he has power to heal in the name of Jesus! Peter orders him to start walking and the guy

stand up and starts leaping for joy. He then goes and gets his church on with Peter and John. People who witness the miracle

are amazed. Others who missed the actual event sees the man walking, jumping, and praising God in the temple. The people

are blown away. Peter tells the people, “You see this man, and you know him. He put his faith in the name of Jesus and was

made strong. Faith in Jesus made this man completely well while everyone was watching” (v 16).

Throughout the Gospels, we see healings and miracles that take place when believers call on the name of Jesus. But, we

can also use Jesus’ name to declare things over our own lives. When Jesus took our place on the cross, he gave us access

to power beyond our finite imagination. We, too, have the same power and authority that Peter and John had. It’s by God’s

grace and mercy that we can use this beautiful and almighty name of Jesus that breaks every chain of sin. When we use it, it

shows we are dependent on Jesus!

REFLECTDo you believe there is power in the name of Jesus? Think of instances where you have seen or experienced the healing

power of the name of Jesus. Praise God for them.

RESPONDWhen you pray, begin to use the name of Jesus. As you make your requests to God, declare them in the name of Jesus.

Jesus, I know there is power in your name. Let me be bold like Peter and John and use the power you have given me in your name, for your glory.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 5 GIVE IT UP FOR THE GOSPEL …SHAKE UP THE HOUSE

PRAYGod, help us to be bold and unashamed of the message of salvation.

READ Acts 4.1-37At this point in time, many miracles and unbelievable things were taking place. It was all being done in the name of Jesus,

through the preaching of the apostles. The religious teachers of the Law and some rulers were not happy because these

miracles were bringing people to Jesus. They were angry and refused to believe even though the signs and wonders could

not be denied. They chose to forbid the gospel of Jesus from being shared in Jerusalem, but because Peter and John were

bold, that did nothing to stop them. In fact, when the two were arrested and later set free, they and the rest of the Lord’s

followers met to pray. They asked God to give them courage to face all their haters, and to continue to show God’s power

through miracles and healings as they called on the name of Jesus. As soon as they finished praying, the whole house began

to shake, and everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Words cannot describe how God feels when we are not ashamed to acknowledge God’s power before unbelievers and follow

him in all circumstances. When we become bold believers, we will tell the world of God’s love that is available to all people.

REFLECT Is it hard for you to share the message of Jesus with your friends and family? Do you feel like you are missing out on living life

to the fullest when you maintain a godly lifestyle? In what areas of your life do you lack courage?

RESPOND

Share the gospel with someone today. Don’t be ashamed of the truth of Jesus. Be bold. Remember the Holy Spirit’s

got your back.

God, today I draw the line in the sand and I refuse to back up. I give all I am over to you.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 6 IT’S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!

PRAY Lord, speak to me through your Word. Reveal to me the idols and sins that may be hindering my walk with you.

READ Acts 5.1-42This chapter of the book of Acts clearly displays the awesome power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church. In this

narrative of Ananias and Sapphira, we see that the Holy Spirit’s power is far greater than that of Satan’s. Satan’s tactics

are divisive and contradictory to the Word of God. By tempting the husband and wife to lie and cheat, Satan sowed seeds

of corruption in the Church. But, the Holy Spirit, who knows all things and knows our hearts, permanently removes Satan’s

instruments, Ananias and Sapphira, from the Church.

While this judgment may seem cruel, it is meant as a warning and a learning experience to the Early Church. The death

of these two had an impact on the others. “The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what

had happened” (v 11). We see that when something is held back from God, he is grieved. God did not need Ananias and

Sapphira’s funds; he wanted their undivided, sincere faith in God’s providence. As a Father, the Lord wants his children to

completely rely on him, so that we are not tempted to hold anything back from him.

REFLECTWhat are you holding back from God? Is it money, like Ananias or Sapphira? Are you lying, cheating, or gossiping to get

ahead? The Lord yearns for his children to have complete trust in him. God wants our faith to be undivided and sincere. Is

your faith resting completely in the Lord’s providential power?

RESPONDTrust God with the life issues that concern you. Pray and believe that God will work it all out in the way that he knows is best.

Jesus, send me your Spirit so that I can fully lean on you and your great power. Thank you that you will provide for all my needs and I do not need to hold anything back from you.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 7 PREACHERS, WAITERS, AND PRAYER WARRIORS

PRAYHeavenly Father, help me to stay devoted to you in prayer and by reading your Word. Give me understanding so that I may

follow you in all that I do.

READ Acts 6.1-15As people who belong to God, we are all God’s servants. There is no difference in our rank as we give our service in the

Lord’s kingdom. When we read about how the Lord’s followers worked in the Early Church, it is clear that they did not

consider one position higher than another. Whether it’s an apostle teaching the Word, a man waiting on tables, or a woman

praying, God does not bless us based on our rank. The true mark of a believer’s position is his or her faithfulness in serving

God. The men chosen to wait on tables, a seemingly menial and meaningless task, were all people who were filled with the

Holy Spirit. It should be a liberating concept to know that whatever you do to help build God’s kingdom, counts. Do it always

with a servant’s heart and God will honor your efforts.

REFLECT Whatever your position in life may be, are you asking the Holy Spirit to fill you?

RESPONDDon’t think of honest work as degrading. Do it cheerfully as if you are doing it for God.

Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit each day. Help me to have a servant’s heart so I may serve and obey you faithfully.

NowActs.com | 10

YOUTH TRACKDAY 8 WHERE IS YOUR GAZE?

PRAYLord, as I come before you today, speak truth into my heart so that I may live to honor you.

READ Acts 7.1-60Stephen took his faith seriously. He was so convinced of Christ’s saving power that he was willing to die for what he believed.

As he was being stoned to death, Stephen’s gaze was on heaven and Jesus. We know that a person’s worship is always

towards the object of his or her affection. What was it about Jesus and the message that he preached that made Stephen

willing to give it all up, even his life? Those stones were not small pebbles being thrown at Stephen; those stones were large

rocks that were meant to maim and mutilate his body. The excruciating death Stephen suffered is a testimony of how worthy

he considered Christ to be.

We sing, “Open the eyes of my heart” asking God to let us turn our gaze upon Jesus who died for our sins.

Stephen’s witness and martyrdom demonstrate that Jesus was truly the object of his worship.

REFLECTAre you gazing on the Lord with the eyes of your heart? If not, how can you refocus your gaze in order to get back to

worshiping the true and living, loving God?

RESPOND Re-examine the object of your worship. If you are worshiping anyone or anything other than God, God is not pleased.

But, if you look to the God of heaven and the Lord of your heart, he will comfort you in times of trial, as he did in Stephen’s

life and death.

Jesus, remove the things from my life that are distractions. Keep my eyes focused on you so I will keep looking to you for guidance and direction in all things.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 9 A DOWN SOUTH READING LESSON

PRAYGod Almighty, my heart yearns for more of you and your beautiful truth. Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things

in your Word.

READ Acts 8.1-40In this Scripture text, an angel speaks to the apostle Philip, telling him to arise and go to the south. This is an interesting

command in that the angel does not give him any word about what to do down south, or how to get there, just get up and

go. When he does, Philip meets an Ethiopian who is struggling to understand the Scriptures he is reading. Philip explains the

passage and eventually leads the man to accept the Lord Jesus as Savior, and be baptized.

Obedience is key to honoring God. Philip had no way of knowing that he would witness to the man in the chariot. Oftentimes

in life, God calls us to “arise and go.” It could be a call to the mission field, a school, to witness to an unlikeable person, or

even an enemy. Whenever God calls, we need to be obedient.

REFLECTIn what ways do you sense God’s call in your life? How can you be open to God’s voice so that you know when he is

speaking to you?

RESPONDGod also called Abram to leave his country and go to a land God promised to show him. In the same way, you are to arise

and go when the Lord tells you to, even if you do not know why he is calling you.

Father, because your love is so strong and personal, I commit my life to you. Stir my heart that I may pattern your holiness in every aspect of life.

NowActs.com | 12

YOUTH TRACKDAY 10 THE GIFT OF SALVATION

PRAYGod, thank you for your gift of salvation. May I always treasure it and be mindful of what it cost you.

READ Acts 9.1-43No sinner is beyond God’s long arm of love. Here, Saul is so obsessed with persecuting the Church that he wants to get rid

of Christians in areas other than Jerusalem. Then, Jesus reveals himself to Saul as Saul travels on the road to Damascus.

Saul responds with obedience and surrenders to Jesus Christ. It is an amazing transformation. In this narrative, we see God’s

salvation plan at work. First, the person is dead in sin and blinded by disobedience. God then reveals himself, and the sinner

has to either choose or reject the Lord’s invitation. Upon accepting God’s invitation, God removes the scales from the eyes of

the formerly sinful person, and ushers him into a new life with Christ.

REFLECT How does your story relate to Saul’s? Have you allowed God to work in your life as he did in Saul’s?

RESPONDIf you have been saved like Saul, you are no longer blinded by sin. Use every opportunity you can to pursue Christ and live a

life that glorifies him.

God of the universe, I believe that you are the all-powerful God. Thank you that, although I was once a sinner, you have brought me into this new life through your sacrifice.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 11 GOD’S MESSAGE DESTROYS OUR PREJUDICE

PRAYLord, speak to me about my prejudices and improper attitudes toward people who are different from me.

Change me, Lord, I am desperate for change.

READ Acts 10.1-48We gotta be honest with ourselves—some things die hard. Imagine one of the apostles being confronted with his own

prejudices! And God, who knows every crevice of each heart, uses a vision as a means of changing the apostle Peter’s heart

and mind. It took a lunch-hour roof top vision to finally confront Peter about his self-righteous upbringing. God also uses a

vision to link Cornelius, the Gentile, with Peter the Jew. As they exchange their experiences, they realize that each had a role

to play in demonstrating that God loves all people and longs to see each one reach out to him for salvation. This awesome

story concludes with Peter recognizing his prejudices and acknowledging: “Now I am certain that God treats all people alike.

God is pleased with everyone who worships him and does right, no matter what nation they come from” (vv 34, 35). Whoa! The

text ends with God pouring out the Holy Spirit upon Gentiles.

REFLECTIs your heart completely clean of any hatred or prejudice that you have toward any particular type or group of people?

RESPOND Ask God to forgive you for holding hatred in your heart towards others. As you have been forgiven, you need to love and

forgive others.

Lord Jesus, help me. It is hard, Lord, but I know you can just remove the junk in my heart that I have toward others. Thank you, Jesus!

NowActs.com | 14

YOUTH TRACKDAY 12 DEALING WITH CONFLICT IN THE ‘FAMILY’

PRAYGod, you have chosen me to bring a message of reconciliation because you have changed my heart.

Give me the strength to take a message of love and forgiveness to people in my family, my church, and my community!

READ Acts 11.1-30Sometimes the people closest to you, are the ones that hurt you the most. The apostle Peter, recently being freed of his

prejudice toward Gentiles, now returns to Jerusalem to meet with fellow believers to tell them the exciting things God is

doing among the Gentiles. When Peter gets there they criticize him harshly for breaking Jewish religious law and eating with

Gentiles. Imagine this criticism coming from people in the Early Church who had pledged to love and be kind to each other!

Peter, who has been changed by his recent experiences, tells them about his new-found relationship with Cornelius,

a Gentile. He tells them that whereas he would have been wary to go to the house of a Gentile with three strange men,

“The Holy Spirit told [him] to go with them and not to worry” (v 12a). After sharing this great story, they had no problem with

Peter. The church was once again unified, and God poured out a huge blessing upon them, allowing great numbers of

people to come to faith.

REFLECT Are you jealous when you hear a good report from another believer about how God is working in and through them? Do you

share their excitement? Honest?

RESPOND Listen carefully to others and be a blessing to them by serving and helping them.

Lord, remove from me the spirit of criticism. Let me be about building up and not tearing down.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 13 THE CHURCH PRAYS 24/7, GOD ANSWERS—AWESOME!

PRAYLord, I know that rough times may come. Like Peter, I may be persecuted for believing in you. If that time comes, God, would

you help this teenager to continue to serve you?

READ Acts 12.1-25In this chapter, King Herod goes on a rampage and begins to lock up the Lord’s followers and kill those he didn’t put in

prison. The apostle James loses his head, literally, and Peter is thrown in jail. When the people of God heard about Brother

Peter being locked up, they began to pray around the clock. God heard their prayers, and answered with miracles. God sent

an angel to release Peter from prison. Every chain fell off Bro. Peter, and every door opened automatically! Even the iron gate

to the city! Awesome!

Peter then went to the house where his people were praying for him and even they couldn’t believe that Peter was free. God is

truly a prayer-answering God. Later, God punished King Herod for thinking in his heart that he was God. While he was sitting

on his throne an angel struck him down for taking the honor that belonged to God. Afterward, worms ate him alive and he

died. Herod died but “God’s message kept spreading” (v 24). No one can stop the spreading of the gospel of Christ!

REFLECT When you pray, do you really believe that God will answer your prayer?

RESPOND When hard times come, continue serving God just like you always do. When you pray, believe that God will not only hear but

answer your prayers.

Lord, sometimes I just don’t pray like I really believe that you hear me. Would you increase my faith today? Would you help me to know that whatever I ask of God in Jesus’ name, he will do it? Lord, I really want to have that type of faith.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 14 FIRST-TIME MISSIONARIES IN PRIME TIME

PRAYGod, I like where I am, but you, Lord, may have others plans for me. If you want me to go somewhere like you did Paul and

Barnabas, please let me know. Thank you, Lord—I can always count on you to talk to me.

READ Acts 13.1-52This chapter tells of the first missionary journey. The Holy Spirit selects Saul/Paul and Barnabas and sends them out. They

certainly don’t know exactly what is going to happen when they leave their home base and venture out. They travel to Cyprus

and go to the city of Paphos where they immediately run into opposition. Witchcraft! The Holy Spirit, who Jesus says guides

us into all truth, points out the sorcerer to them, and they prophesy against him. And then these radical brothers for the Lord

go to a synagogue where they are asked to get up and preach. These brothers begin to recount the whole history of Israel

and the message of Jesus to the Jews who were listening to this new and totally awesome Word. They are invited back and

this time the whole city comes to hear them. Some people rise up in opposition to the message of Jesus, but these brothers

hold true and keep on preachin’! The work that the Holy Spirit sent them to do was accomplished because we read that “The

message about the Lord spread all over this region” (v 49). These guys were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit, and they

shared it with those who would listen.

REFLECT Are you asking God to help you be radical? Are you asking God to fill you with the Holy Spirit so you can be sold out for God?

RESPOND Ask God to help you move away from what is normal and comfortable and take a radical stand for him.

God, you sent out Paul and Barnabas to do your work. Move me out of my comfort zone, equip me and send me out in Jesus’ name.

NowActs.com | 17

YOUTH TRACKDAY 15 MAN HEALED; PAUL STONED; IT’S ALL GOOD …

PRAYLord, I just ask for grace to live every day for you.

READ Acts 14.1-28Paul and Barnabas continue on their first missionary journey. A man in a city called Lystra is healed of a life-long illness.

He had been crippled from birth. This miracle so amazed the people that they thought the two missionaries were gods.

Paul cleared that up really quickly! However, as much as they were working for the Lord, some people turned against these

guys and they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, leaving Paul for dead. Yet Paul did not die. He survived by the

grace of God!

In fact, the very next day the two men continued to preach and teach God’s Word. And as they did, they were able to plant

churches and appoint leaders in these various cities, so that the work Paul had started would continue long after he was

gone. Paul and Barnabas sailed home after this very hard journey and gave a great report of what God was doing in all those

cities.

REFLECT Are you sharing the love of God and the gospel like Paul did? Is fear of getting beat up preventing you from sharing the love

of Jesus? Is fear preventing you from talking about Jesus at all?

RESPOND Be prepared to face opposition when you share the gospel. Be prepared to even suffer. Pray and ask God to make you

strong.

God, help me to be bold when I share your love. I am so afraid, but I know I can do it with your help.

NowActs.com | 18

YOUTH TRACKDAY 16 IT’S A RELATIONSHIP NOT RELIGION!

PRAYGod, I want to have a healthy relationship with you, one that is based on love, obedience, and reverence.

READ Acts 15.1-41As the Word of God was preached, many Gentiles accepted the message of Jesus and were filled with the Holy Spirit. But

as is often found in life, not everybody is happy that somebody from outside joined the group. Some Jews who were stuck in

tradition, implied that Gentiles could not really be part of the Church unless they were circumcised. This caused a big rift. It

was so bad that they had to call a special meeting to iron things out.

In his speech to the group, the apostle Peter points out that God had allowed him and Barnabas to work many miracles

among the Gentiles. He also said that by giving the Gentiles the gift of the Holy Spirit, God had shown that he did not play

favorites, but he was accepting the Gentiles on the basis of their faith in his Son, Jesus. God wanted a relationship with his

people. Peter stated his case saying, “God treated them in the same way he treated us. They put their faith in him, and he

made their hearts pure. Now why are you trying to make God angry by placing a heavy burden on these followers?” (vv 9, 10a).

This explanation pacified the group and they began to understand that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-seeing. God

is perfect and everything he does fulfills his purposes.

REFLECTHave you ever felt threatened when someone you think was below your standing joined your group?

Do you sometimes put up barriers to keep others from being part of your in-crowd?

RESPONDTalk to God so he can help you relate to someone who feels like an outsider. Ask God to help you guide that person closer

to him.

Father, help me to stay away from all those things that would come between my relationship with you.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 17 THE JAILHOUSE ROCKS! IT’S A MIRACLE!

PRAYGod, when I’m in a spot, let me praise you anyhow. Let me be confident you will answer my prayer.

READ Acts 16.1-40Although you may be in a bad situation, God knows what is best and he will perform miracles if it is to be. Paul and Silas

were in jail, and even then they still praised God by singing and praying, even at midnight! These guys must have been good

(and loud) because the Scriptures say, “the other prisoners listened” (v 25). Then suddenly there was a huge earthquake. The

foundation of the prison was shaken and the chains of all the prisoners fell off! When the jailer woke up and realized what was

happening, he tried to kill himself with his sword, but Paul and Silas stopped him. Not one of the prisoners tried to get away. It

was an act of the Holy Spirit. It was a miracle!

It was in that dark, cold jailhouse that a man who once chained prisoners was now set free. The jailer and his entire family

accepted Jesus into their lives, and were baptized. Even in the most unusual and dangerous situations, God can perform

miracles.

REFLECTDo you believe God can perform miracles even in the harshest and most difficult times? Have you ever experienced a

“midnight hour” when things looked pretty bad, but deep down you knew God would come through for you?

RESPONDNext time you’re in a difficult situation, praise and pray your way through it like Paul and Silas did. Spend more time with God

and ask him to place you where he needs you the most.

Jesus, you always take care of your people, sometimes in unexpected ways. Let me praise you even when I can’t see how my situation is going to be resolved.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 18 NEXT STOP—ATHENS. PAUL PREACHES THE WORD-UP!

PRAYGod in heaven, the message of the apostle Paul was so clear and so bold. Lord, I am young, and you know my heart.

Make me authentic for your glory so people can see you in me.

READ Acts 17.1-34Paul continues his missionary journey as we see him go to Thessalonica and then on to perhaps his most famous and well-

known destinations—Athens. There he finds idols all over the city, including an altar on which the people have inscribed the

words: “To An Unknown God” (v 23). Paul is taken before the city council. He stands up in the midst of philosophers and

learned people and begins to challenge them and their wacky thinking. This is one of Paul’s greatest sermons in the book

of Acts. He explains that he knows who the “unknown” God is. He says it is this God, about whom he preaches, who made

the heavens and the earth and everyone in it. He even called on all of his listeners to repent and follow the resurrected Jesus

Christ. Paul concludes by saying that in order to prove God is true, Jesus was raised from the dead. Some people laughed in

his face, but as a result of Paul’s outspoken sermon, many others believed and followed Jesus.

REFLECTDo you have any idols in your life? They may be in the form of habits, possessions, or even people. Ask God to lead you

away from them.

RESPONDIt is your heart that God sees, not your intellect and your social position. Be humble and surrender those areas of your life that

you have not given over to him.

Lord, clear out any hidden idols in my life. Let me make room there for you only.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 19 PAUL HANGS OUT IN CORINTH AND GETS A BOOST FROM GOD

PRAYSometimes in my walk with you, God, I get so discouraged. I get lonely, depressed, sad. Encourage my heart, O God!

READ Acts 18.1-28 Paul finds himself now in Corinth, a city where he spent a lot of time. He wrote two long letters to the church there. Paul

was encouraged by the conversions of many people around him, including Crispus, the leader of the synagogue. Many

Corinthians who heard his preaching believed on the Lord and were saved. But God knew after so many arduous journeys,

that Paul himself would need some encouragement directly from God. We hear God encouraging Paul with these words,

“...Don’t be afraid to keep on preaching. Don’t stop! I am with you and you won’t be harmed. Many people in this city belong

to me” (vv 9, 10). Wow! As a result, Paul was encouraged and continued to minister in Corinth. Afterwards, he moved on to

several other places.

The chapter concludes with a man named Apollos in Ephesus who was a convert of John the Baptist’s teachings, and who

was openly declaring the love of Jesus. Where there were gaps in his knowledge, two other followers, Priscilla and Aquila,

took Apollos into their home and taught him about the message of Jesus. Apollos received this message with a humble heart.

REFLECT Do you spend enough time in God’s Word so that it sinks deep in your heart? Are there things you don’t understand?

Ask God to lead you to a godly individual who can explain God’s Word to you.

RESPONDTake an assessment of your heart and life. Spend an hour with God; you can do that even in the midst of your busy life.

Don’t delay. Ask God to speak directly to your heart, and humbly receive his Word.

God, I give up. I have often tried to encourage myself, but today I need you to encourage me. Whatever you say to me, Lord, let me receive your Word with grace and humility.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 20 IT’S NOT A QUIET RIOT!

PRAYJesus, the world always seems to oppose you and your Word. Lord, when opposition comes in my life, I know that you will give

me the grace that I will need to go on.

READ Acts 19.1-41Paul labors on his journeys and he now comes to Ephesus, one of the churches that he loves and cares for a great deal. As

always, Paul’s teaching and preaching meets with opposition. Here in Ephesus, Paul witnesses miracles of the Holy Spirit

taking place. People are speaking in tongues, while others are prophesying. There are numerous healings and evil spirits are

cast out; all kinds of things are happening because of Paul’s obedience to God. In fact, there were so many conversions that

those who made false gods and sold them to the people of Ephesus became angry because they were losing customers!

They met in a public meeting place and turned the whole city in total uproar. Two disciples were dragged into the public

square and local townspeople who were friendly with Paul warned him not to go there! The residents of Ephesus who loved

worshiping idols, and the merchants who sold them, worked themselves into such a frenzy that for two straight hours they

kept chanting in protest, “Great is Artemis, the goddess of the Ephesians!” (v 34). It was a crazy time, but the Holy Spirit’s

work was done, and God’s message spread all across Asia.

REFLECT Can you imagine facing as much opposition as Paul did, for standing up for God? Are you clamoring to retain your “idols”

when God’s Spirit asks you to remove them from your life?

RESPONDDespite personal attacks, the Lord’s followers kept preaching the Word. When opposition comes, don’t back down. Keep

holding on to what you know is right.

Lord, use me however you want to. I pray that you will bless many people because of what you are doing in my life. May it always be for your glory.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 21 WHAT A STORY! – MIRACLE AFTER A THIRD STORY FALL

PRAYYour Word is so amazing, Lord; it is like nothing else we read. Let me treasure it and share it with someone else.

READ Acts 20.1-38The uproar in Ephesus ended and, once again, Paul is on the move. After spending three months in Greece, he and a group

of followers head to Troas, which is located in modern-day Turkey. Paul was preaching for hours, and a young guy who had

been sitting in a window sill, falls asleep and plunges three stories to his death. Paul then prays over the guy and immediately

he comes back to life. Amazing!

Paul then heads out again and ends up in Miletus. In that town, Paul meets with the elders from Ephesus whom he had

called. He tells them that the Holy Spirit has told him to go to Jerusalem. Paul openly shares his heart with these guys and

says that he knows that, just like every other city he has been in, trouble awaits him in Jerusalem. But, Paul says he is not

worried about his physical safety as long as he finishes the work God has called him to do. “And this work is to tell the good

news about God’s gift of undeserved grace” (v 24b). Paul shares his love and his heart for the leaders of this church, and in

an emotional farewell, he prays with them, hugs them, reminds them of their responsibility to give support to the work of the

church, and weeps as they put him on a ship bound for Jerusalem.

REFLECT God gave Paul an awesome responsibility. Can God trust you to take his precious gospel to someone who has never heard it

before? Would you be willing to risk your life to spread the gospel?

RESPONDPaul had a deep and sincere love for the people in the church. Find opportunities to bless and show love to the people in

your house of worship.

Lord, you teach that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Teach me to give willingly and generously.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 22 KILLER SAUL NOW BROTHER PAUL COMES FULL CIRCLE BACK HOME

PRAYGod, it is incredible how you change people’s lives. I look at my own and I’m amazed at how you changed me.

Thank you for forgiving me and saving me. You did it for me, and you will do it for anyone who asks.

READ Acts 21.1-40Paul detours to Tyre and Caesarea before finally arriving in Jerusalem. There he meets with the elders and gives them the

details of his ministry, where many had come to faith in Jesus. The issue of Gentiles coming to faith in God has not gone

away, even after all of Paul’s hard work, for Paul is accused of telling the Jews who live among the Gentiles to abandon

the Law of Moses. This is, of course, not true. To stop those accusations and in-fighting, Paul is asked to visit the temple

in Jerusalem and be purified according to Jewish law and customs as a sign that he has not abandoned his faith. Seven

days after arriving, Paul is recognized at the temple and a riot breaks out – Paul was about to be killed when Roman soldiers

arrived. Immediately, Paul was arrested and put in chains. Paul strikes up a conversation with the commander that arrested

him and asks for an opportunity to speak.

REFLECTAlthough Paul knew, through the Holy Spirit, that when he returned to Jerusalem he would meet trouble there, he still followed

through. Do you have the courage to follow through on the things God has called you to do?

RESPONDUse each opportunity you get to be kind to others. As God gives you courage, gently share what God has done in your life.

I am so lacking in courage, Lord Jesus. I do want to share your Word. Please give me courage and grace to do so.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 23 PAUL GIVES HIS INCREDIBLE TESTIMONY TO A CRAZY CROWD

PRAYUse me, Lord, in an incredible way. I want to be useful in the kingdom of God here on earth.

READ Acts 22.1-30Paul’s boldness during his arrest on the temple steps, leads him to ask the official in charge if he can talk to the crazy

crowd that has watched the spectacle of his arrest. With permission, Paul turns to the crowd and begins speaking to them

in Aramaic. He immediately begins sharing the Damascus road story of how God changed his life from being a killer of

Christians to one who was now sharing God’s message. Paul also talks about a vision he had in which God was sending him

to the Gentiles. Hearing the word “Gentiles,” the crowd went nuts! The Roman soldiers grabbed Paul and were about to beat

him big time. But Paul brings the process to a sudden halt when he declares that he is a Roman citizen [it was illegal to beat

a Roman citizen before trial]. This made the people back away.

REFLECTPaul is amazing! He shares his story about Jesus with great clarity and deep conviction. How strong are your convictions?

What would it take to make you share your story? Are you afraid of losing friends if you do?

RESPONDPaul always seemed ready to share the love of Jesus with the Gentiles and whoever came across his path. Who are the

minorities in your community? Try sharing God’s love with them first.

Lord, I have to admit that I love to be liked. I am afraid that if I share my faith in Jesus, some of my closest friends at school will reject me and turn from me. Help me to believe in you like Paul did, and help me to have his courage.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 24 TOP RELIGIOUS LEADERS HEAR THE WORD

PRAYGod, open your Word to me. And as you open your Word, open my heart, too, that I may receive what you have in store

for me today.

READ Acts 23.1-35The Council was made up of the top religious leaders of Paul’s day. Religious issues were brought to them for solutions.

Because of Paul’s boldness, he now stood before them. The Roman authorities did not want to get involved with Paul once

they found out he was a Roman citizen, so these same authorities turned Paul over to the Council. And Paul takes the

opportunity to share the gospel with them! Amazing. As Paul spoke, conflict arose among the religious leaders, some of

whom were in favor of Paul. When a near riot broke out, Paul was whisked away by the soldiers and placed in custody. A plot

to kill Paul was later uncovered and the Roman authorities were alerted. The local Roman authorities made the decision to

send Paul to another city to be brought before Governor Felix. Paul would then have the opportunity to share Jesus with other

influential gatekeepers.

REFLECT Sometimes religious people are totally entrenched in their self-righteousness and are the toughest people to share Jesus

with. Are you still open to receiving God’s Word from the lips of other believers? Are there truths in the Bible that you disagree

with? If so, ask God for faith to believe.

RESPOND Pray for God to soften the hearts of people who are trapped by religion. Look for opportunities to share the truth of God’s

Word with them.

Save me from religion, Lord. Now that I have real faith in you, help me to be gracious to religious people and not be angry or bitter.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 25 PAUL GOES BEFORE THE POWERS THAT BE AND SHARES THE POWER THAT IS— JESUS!

PRAYLord, let my life count for you. I am inspired as I see how Paul shares your Word no matter where he is. What a neat and

incredibly awesome way of life—it is the best way to live!

READ Acts 24.1-27Leaving the Council, Paul is now brought before Governor Felix. A lawyer for the religious people trashed Paul before

Governor Felix, and Paul is given the opportunity to speak in order to set the record straight. He disagrees with everything

the lawyer has said and bluntly says that the whole issue of why he is being tried is related to the fact that he believes in the

resurrection from the dead. Remember, Paul not only believed that God raised Jesus from the dead, but he himself, through

the power of God, restored a man to life. Felix hears the case then says that he is going to wait for the Roman commander to

come, in order to make a decision. Paul has to wait. But then several days later, the Governor along with his wife, Drusilla, call

for Paul and he shares the love of God with them. Paul scares Felix when he tells him he has to live right, practice self-control,

and adopt the behavior of those who follow God. Felix, who eventually goes out of office as governor, does not free Paul. Two

years later, Paul is still in prison!

REFLECT God gives Paul these incredible opportunities to speak before people of influence, even while he is in trouble. But it is not

easy for Paul. Could you wait on God for two years? Would you consider going against your beliefs if it would make life easier

for you?

RESPOND Sometimes we get frustrated while waiting on God. Ask God to take away your anxiety and fill that space with peace.

God, your Word says those who wait on you will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint. So God, in the midst of my anxiousness, teach me to wait on you. Show me what it means to wait on you, for real.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 26 AFTER A 2-YEAR DELAY, PAUL SPEAKS BEFORE THE NEW GOVERNOR

PRAYLord, I confess that I really need your help to be patient and wait on you. I just gotta say that this is the hardest thing

for me to do.

READ Acts 25.1-27A new governor comes on the scene, but the insanity still continues. It’s been two years since the revolt in the temple in

chapters 21 and 22. The religious leaders are still after Paul and an argument and craziness breaks out in Festus’ courtroom.

It drags on and on and Paul once more declares his innocence and basically says the religious guys are ridiculous!

He argues that he wants his case to go before the main man, the Emperor. However, Paul is in for a surprise when a king

ruling over Palestine at that time, a guy by the name of Agrippa, visits the governor, Festus. God begins to set the stage for

Paul to share the message of Christ with this pagan king.

The more the religious people accuse Paul, the more God allows Paul to share the truth with important people. How does this

happen? It may sound like just a history lesson, but this is a story of how God moves in the lives of his people, for his glory.

REFLECT How ready are you to represent Jesus? What if you were asked to go to the mayor’s office or the White House and preach

to the president? Or to catch a ride to Albany to share Christ with the governor or other lawmakers? Could you do it?

Would you do it?

RESPOND When the apostle Paul was training a young preacher named Timothy, Paul told him not to shy away from the truth of the

gospel no matter who he was preaching to, and no matter where he had the opportunity (2 Timothy 4.2). As a young person,

it is important for you to follow Paul’s advice.

God, I am so glad you are in control of my life. Lead me and guide me every day.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 27 DEFENSE BEFORE A KING: I BEG YOU TO LISTEN CAREFULLY

PRAYSometimes I feel like no one is listening to me. But you listen, Lord, and that encourages me.

READ Acts 26.1-32Paul continues to share the message of Christ to top officials – and now we find him before King Agrippa. Paul is well-

educated and eloquent, and knows how to charm an audience, so he flatters Agrippa big time. When Paul begins his speech,

he goes all the way back to his childhood and his schooling in Jewish law. He then spends a great deal of time highlighting

his conversion experience on the road to Damascus. In the middle of his speech, Paul explains that he has been telling his

audiences that “the Messiah would suffer and be the first to be raised from death, so he could bring light to his own people

and to the Gentiles” (v 23). Before Paul could finish, Agrippa yells out, “Paul, you’re crazy! Too much learning has driven you

out of your mind” (v 24). However, like Pilate, in the case of Jesus, Agrippa found nothing against Paul and would have set

him free, but since Paul had asked for his case to be tried by the Roman Emperor, Agrippa was forced to continue the

judicial process.

REFLECT Agrippa thought Paul was crazy. Do people see you as so sold out for the kingdom that they might call you “crazy”?

Do you know enough to argue your case for why you believe what you believe?

RESPOND Begin asking God for new and fresh opportunities to share his love, grace, and mercy. Ask God to move you from mediocrity

and let you strive to become the best you can be.

Lord, I am fed up with my own selfishness and self-centeredness. Help me to take my eyes off my ‘stuff’ and focus them on Jesus.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 28 STORMY WEATHER: PAUL AND 275 OTHERS SURVIVE SHIPWRECK

PRAYThere are many storms in my life, Lord. At times I feel like I am about to be shipwrecked, but then I remember how you saved

Paul, and that gives me hope.

READ Acts 27.1-44Paul, along with other prisoners and soldiers, heads for Rome. Early on in this journey, Paul, under the direction of the Holy

Spirit, declares, “Men, listen to me! If we sail now, our ship and its cargo will be badly damaged, and many lives will be lost”

(v 10). But the men ignore Paul. A huge storm comes along and all the cargo has to be tossed off the ship. The storm lasts

for several days and this time Paul tells them that everyone will arrive safely, but the ship will be lost. And that is exactly what

happened. The ship ran aground on a sand bar and was destroyed. The soldiers, fearing that the prisoners would escape,

wanted to kill all the prisoners. But the Roman captain in charge, wanting to save Paul’s life, ordered everyone off the ship.

So, Paul and 275 others on board the ship jumped off and began to swim toward land. “Everyone safely reached shore”

(v 44), fulfilling Paul’s words.

REFLECT Think of the messages Paul gets under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. How did such messages impact the outcome of

Paul’s journey? Has God ever given you directions about decisions he wants you to make? If so, were you obedient?

RESPOND When things become difficult, remind yourself that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength

(Philippians 4.13). Then, ask God to give you the strength to persevere.

My problems seem so small in comparison to those the apostle Paul had to endure. Help me, Lord, to always put things in perspective.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 29 ISLAND-WIDE HEALINGS PRECEDE 2-YEAR KINGDOM-BUILDING SERVICES IN ROME

PRAYLord Jesus, here I am at the end of the incredible story of the book of Acts. It has motivated me to love your Word more and

become more determined to share its message with the world around me.

READ Acts 28.1-31Paul was shipwrecked, but he and all the others make it safely to shore on the island of Malta. Paul collects firewood and

promptly gets bitten by a poisonous viper. The locals freak out, but Paul just shakes off the snake and goes on about his

business. Soon after, Publius, the governor, welcomes Paul and his crew. Publius’ father is sick and Paul prays for him and

he recovers. As a result, the rest of the sick people on the island come to Paul and “they [are] all healed” (v 9). This was an

unplanned healing revival, for sure. Three months later, on a different ship, Paul arrives in Rome and he immediately meets

with the religious leaders there. They know nothing of him, only that the new brand of faith he preaches about is taking over

everything and everybody! So Paul, ever the teacher and ever the evangelist, takes the opportunity to teach these leaders the

Word of God from early morning to late at night. Despite the many difficulties Paul faced on his journey to Rome, the book of

Acts concludes with a bold statement: “He bravely preached about God’s kingdom and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ,

and no one tried to stop him” (v 31).

REFLECTDespite all the wonderful things the apostles did—healed the sick, cast out demons, planted churches, and shared the

gospel—they gave the glory to God. As you labor in the kingdom of God, check your ego so it does not get in the way of

God’s work. Can you handle not being praised for your efforts? Would you be tempted to have people know about the work

you did?

RESPONDTake time to re-read chapters of this incredible book of the Bible. Pray that each time God will give you new revelation. Thank

God for Jesus, our Savior, and for the brave men and women of the Early Church who shared God’s message with the world.

Lord, thank you for changing me and challenging me to live up to my calling as your disciple, and as one of your children. Let your Word always bring joy to my heart.

YOUTH TRACKDAY 30 A POWERFUL END TO A POWER-FILLED BEGINNINGPRAYLord, you caused me to take this “Journey” for a specific reason. It was not by accident that I spent these 30 days discovering

your truth in the pages of your Word, but by divine providence. Let me not hear your Word only, but also seek to do it in

practical, life-giving ways. Fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit that I may finish strong in the work you have called me to do.

READ Acts 27.1—28.31The last two chapters of the book of Acts offer a dramatic end to our “Journey” through this fascinating account of the spread

of the gospel during the birth of the Early Church. Paul and the crew that is taking him by ship to Rome to be tried, battle

a tremendous storm. Against Paul’s warnings, the ship had set sail and was now being battered mercilessly by wind and

waves. After many days, God tells Paul that all lives would be spared, but the ship would be wrecked, and it occurs just as

God said. Upon arriving on the island of Malta, a poisonous snake bites Paul, but no harm comes of it and he goes on to heal

everyone who seeks it. Later, he sails to Rome, and attempts to convince the Jews there that he is innocent of the charges

against him. Some agree and others don’t. Every obstacle that tries to hinder the Word is overcome. The chapter comes to a

close and we are left with a striking visual. For two years Paul is kept under house arrest, yet he is allowed to have visitors and

to preach the gospel openly without interference. Anticlimactic? Not really. Cliffhanger? Not even. The Holy Spirit has been

poured out on those willing to receive God’s Word, and the “Acts” continue.

This 30-day Journey has empowered us to take God’s Word to our generation. Speaking through the prophet Isaiah

hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, God said, “Rain and snow fall from the sky. But they don’t return without watering the

earth that produces seeds to plant and grain to eat. That’s how it is with my words. They don’t return to me without doing

everything I send them to do” (Isaiah 55.10, 11). Word up!

REFLECT Where do you go from here? You have read how the Lord was with the apostles who chose to believe him, to call upon his

name, and who put their lives on the line to make sure the gospel did not stay hidden, but would be “a light for other nations”

(Isaiah 49.6). How can you reflect that light? What can you do? What impact will you have?

RESPOND The truth is, you can do a lot with whatever resources you have. You can start by brightening the corner of the world in which

you find yourself. Try subscribing to the Acts 1.8 Assignment (NowActs.com/Act). Do an act of kindness—consistently.

Cultivate a servant’s heart. Study God’s Word. Let its principles guide your life. The Bible instructs you in this way: “Don’t let

anyone make fun of you, just because you are young. Set an example for other followers by what you say and do, as well as by

your love, faith, and purity” (1 Timothy 4.12). Give every area of your life over to God and he will honor your obedience.

Lord Jesus, bless us abundantly as we struggle in faith to keep our eyes on you and our minds on the prize you have offered through the finished work at Calvary. Give us your favor and cause us to rock the world with an explosion of the fervor you have given us through the work of the Holy Spirit. Let each of us be pioneers of the next “Acts” before this world comes to a close. Amen.
