FFA Partnership with RWEF

Florida FFA Foundation and the Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation will provide (6) $5,000 scholarships to Florida FFA Members at the State FFA Convention in June. Richard Wallrath established the Foundation in 2006. He has a passion for invest-ing in the lives of 4-H and FFA students. The movie, Deep in the Heart, is the true Tex-as story of Richard Wallrath, whose personal demons caused him to hit rock bottom. After losing everything – job, family, and hope – Richard Wallrath found the strength through faith that made him realize a strong family and the love of his children were the measure of a man's success. With his sons, he went on to build a successful business and used his success to become the highest all-time individual donor to Texas 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) providing educational scholarships. This is a story of finding lost faith, love of family, and ultimately redemption. Faith brings second chanc-es along with the opportunity to do great things. After receiving over 175 Deep in the Heart Essays, the top six essays were picked and KHS has two recipients of the 6 chosen. Hannah Scionti and Madison Dvorak will receive a $5,000 scholar-ship. As you can imagine, this was not an easy task. Every essay we received was very well written and proved the caliber our FFA and Ag Education students truly are. Congratulations Hannah and Madi-son!

In Florida, a state law passed last year that encourages districts to hold an "Academic Scholarship Signing Day" on the third Tuesday of April each year.

"The 'Academic Scholarship Signing Day' shall recognize the out-standing academic achievement of high school seniors who sign a letter of intent to accept an academic scholarship offered to the stu-dent by a postsecondary educational institution. District school board policies and procedures may include, but need not be limited to, conducting assemblies or other appropriate public events in which students offered academic scholarships assemble and sign ac-tual or ceremonial documents accepting those scholarships.”

We will run the program in the Main Media Center and it will be open till 5:00 p.m. to allow stu-dents to have a place to work on credit recovery work and on their current 3rd quarter assignments. Teachers can send their credit recovery packet to Title One and the tutors will make copies for the students who come to after school credit recovery. We will collect the assignments and return the assignments for the teachers to grade. Teachers who want their students to just make up missing assignments from their gradebook also don’t have to do anything except tell the Title One tutors and the missing assignments report will be provided to any and all students who show up for after school credit recovery. Our program after school is also not just for credit recovery. We will give students

a place to work on their school work while they re waiting for their ride home, practice and/or any sports event. Parents, please encourage your child to come to the main media center any day from 2:00—5:00 for 3rd Quarter Recovery. We will be glad to help all students who attend.
