Once again our FFA/AG department showcase their greatness on Monday November 7, 2016. Our Kathleen FFA Citrus team competed in the county contest. Team members were Shelby Carlton, Logan Jewell`, Amber Hanna and Megan Cross. The team was tasked with identifying 25 citrus varie-ties, 25 diseases affecting citrus, 25 insects or signs of insect damage, 15 weeds that must be managed in the citrus indus-try and complete a 20 question exam on industry practic-es. The students won the contest and will compete at the state FFA citrus contest on December 1st. Congratulations to these students and good luck at the state contest. Congratulations Mr. Bartuska! Can you imagine being able to add the experi-ence of having conducted oceanographic scientific research to your resume, be-fore you are even old enough to have a driver’s license? That is exactly what Mr. George Bartuska’s Marine Science classes will be able to do! "Mini Sail Boats" is a project based-learning expe-rience that provides: hands-on learning, technology interface to computer model-ing, and a chance to interact with Ma-rine Science and Oceanography profes-sionals from the USF’s College of Ma-rine Science and Florida Southern Col-lege’s Marine Biology Program. Con-gratulations to Mr. Bartuska for his $3,500 STEAM grant to assist students to: use real electronic instrumentation, assemble an authentic floating data acquisition devices known as a “Miniboat” conduct measurement science in actual ocean environments, and interact with real Marine Sci-entists, Oceanographers, and Numerical Modelers. Way to go Mr. Bartuska; we are so very proud of you! deploy
