Recycling is placing certain materials into a separate container to be sorted for reuse. Recycling begins with YOU! Your help is vital to ensuring the long term sustainability of our community.

Recycling is easy. Although you might not see it, these are some of the positive impacts your recycling has on the community. Choosing just one thing to recycle can have a big impact on the environment.

Help us keep plastic bags out of our carts by emptying your recycling directly into the cart. Bags and sheets of plastic tangle recycling equipment.

For every one pound of paper you recycle, you conserve 3.5

gallons of water.

One ton of cardboard recycled saves 17 trees. 17 trees will absorb 250

pounds of CO2 from the air each year.

• Do not overload the cart or place items on top of the cart.

• Do not place yard waste in the recycling cart.

• Carts may be placed curbside between the hours of 5 p.m. the night before the scheduled day of collection and 6 a.m. on the day of collection.

• Carts left on the curb on the morning after the scheduled pickup may result in a $25.00 roll back fee.

• Place carts curbside at least two feet from obstacles such as mailboxes, trees and shrubs, utility poles, meter boxes or parked cars.

• Do not put hazardous waste such as cleaning materials, oil, paint, pesticides or medical waste in the cart.

• Do not put garbage into the recycling cart, it will not be collected.

• Do not place plastic bags into your recycling cart because they tangle the sorting machinery.

BEST PRACTICES FOR RECYCLING

RECYCLE SMARTWHAT GOES IN THE CART: The City of Orlando uses single stream recycling which means you can put all of

your recyclables into one cart. Large boxes can get stuck and cause recycling to stay in your cart. Break boxes down so they come out of the cart easily.

The following guidelines will help us provide you with better service:


Keep food waste, plastic bags, polystyrene foam cups & containers, aluminum food pans and other plastic film out of the recycling cart. Plastic bags harm recycling machinery, empty the recycling directly into the cart.

WHAT IS COMPOSTING? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?Composting is the process of turning kitchen and yard waste into usable, nutrient rich soil through natural decomposition. Inside the composter, organic waste is broken down through a controlled process by micro organisms. By utilizing the correct material, these micro organisms will create a soil product that is incredibly nutrient dense and great for your garden plants.

• Creates an enriched soil which can be used in your garden

• Suppresses plant diseases and pests

• Saves you money by reducing the need for chemical fertilizer

WHAT CAN I COMPOST? Composting requires a mix of nitrogen and carbon to create the proper setting for decomposition. Green waste such as food scraps, bring nitrogen whereas brown waste, leaves and paper products, add carbon to the mix.
