A SUNRISE SCIMITAR Friday, June 4th 7:00pm

On Thursday morning, June 10th -weather conditions permitting – we will be treated to the most unusual sunrise of our lives, for we will not see a yellow-orange circle of light, but a large solar eclipse which will transform the Sun into a fiery crescent! From Long Island, sunrise is at 5:23 a.m. and the maximum eclipse comes ten minutes later. Eighty percent of the Sun’s diameter will be obscured. Such a circumstance is very rare, having occurred only twice in the past 150 years. In this presentation, Joe Rao, an Associate at New York's Hayden Planetarium will explain the mechanics of what causes eclipses as well as look at events coming our way in the future. Welcome to our fourth annual Adult Summer Reading Program at the Seaford Public Library! We invite all adults (ages 18 and over) to participate. This program has been created to give adults some encouragement to use their library card and get ready to spend those hot summer days

reading by the pool or at the beach!

Adults will be able to register for the reading program ONLINE. To register and to access the book review form, please go to our website: www.seafordlibrary.org and click on the icon that

says “Adult Summer Reading.” Once you do that, there will be two separate links for you to register and one to submit your book reviews online weekly. You are able to review as many

books as you want per week. Each review submitted will automatically be entered towards the grand prizes and weekly prizes. You will also be able to register in-person and submit your

books reviews at the Reference Desk.

Registration will begin on Monday, June 28th and the last day to report will be Saturday, August 14th.

Prizes will be gift certificates from local businesses: Gusto Divino Trattoria, Il Bacetto, Charred Brick Oven, Anchor Down Dockside, Carvel, Barnes and Noble and an Amazon Gift Card.

*Weekly raffles will be given out every Friday for 7 weeks

Summer Reading Kick-Off: Bubbledad Bubble Show

Monday, June 28th 10:15am-11:00am Join us for this fun sciency magic show…with bubbles!

Learn some bubble tricks-square bubbles, smoke bubbles, a

bubble snowman and more then watch the bubbles go from big, huge to ginormous! You will also learn how to make

some of the bubbles. All you will need is some straws, rubber bands and some cardboard tube. A link to the LIVE Zoom

Tails and Tales Face Painting Friday, July 16th 4:30pm

What lies deep in the ocean deeper than any man has gone? Ancient mythology has provided a myriad of fantastical

creatures to evoke our imaginations. Some are beautiful and

some are frightening. Join acclaimed makeup artist, Karen Gebbia, as she guides you through a transformation into a

beautiful mermaid or frightening sea creature. Face paint and accessories included in the kit provided. Please let our staff

know which kit you would prefer at sign up. The link to this prerecorded video will be sent the day of the program.

This year’s theme for the Teen Summer Reading Club in 2021 is Tales and Tails! Come

Reading Registration icon or you can register in person at the Reference Desk. All

registrations will receive a tote bag with our Summer Reading brochure and some

SUMMER READING VOLUNTEERING Seaford Public Library values the teens who volunteer for the Summer Reading Program. In light of all that is happening right now with COVID-19 there have been some difficult decisions to make regarding Summer

Volunteers. Based on CDC guidelines, the difficult decision was made to cancel the library’s Summer Reading Volunteer Program for 2021. We hope that our wonderful volunteers stay safe and healthy. In the meantime,

please take advantage of the many electronic resources available to you through our website, register for the online teen reading club and sign-up for summer reading virtual programs. Please check out the website

for more details @ www.seafordlibrary.org. Make reading fun all summer long!

VIRTUAL CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

2021 Summer Reading Program The Summer Reading Program is an initiative that aims to promote reading and literacy to children, teens and adults. Each summer, Seaford Public Library offers programs and events connected to the

Summer Reading theme, which this year is Tails and Tales! The theme is chosen by the Collaborative Summer Library Program and adopted by libraries across the country.

The Summer Reading celebration kicks off virtually Monday, June 28th at 10:15 am on Zoom, featuring BubbleDad. Discover the fun of science through the world of soap bubbles!

Zoom link will be provided to participants through the library’s EventKeeper. No registration required!

When does Summer Reading start and end? Summer Reading starts Monday, June 28th and ends Friday, August 13th. That's seven whole weeks

to track your reading and be entered into weekly raffles.

Who can participate? Babies thru Grade 5 can join the reading program.

How to register for Summer Reading Program?

Come into the library on kick-off day, or any time after, and sign up online or at the children’s desk.

SUMMER READING PROGRAMS All of our programming this summer will be ONLINE. Tune in all summer for storytime, workshops, animal

shows, and more! Programs will be available on Zoom, Facebook, YouTube or Pre-recorded program.

Most events will require registration, unless indicated. Classes and events have a limit to the number of

VERTEBRATE PARADE (Zoom LIVE)

representatives from four of the five groups of vertebrates will be shown. We will share a frog, a snake, a turtle, an owl and a surprise mammal. Presented by Sweet Briar Nature Center. Zoom link will be provided to

SOLAR ECLIPSE OF THE SUN (Zoom LIVE) Friday, June 4th ∙ 7:00-8:00pm ∙ All ages

FUN-DAMENTAL FORCES (Zoom LIVE)

CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM

Saturday, June 19th ∙ 9:00am-1:00pm ∙ All ages Join the Seaford Public Library as we celebrate Juneteenth! Juneteenth is a time of celebration and a time of

education. At the heart, Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery, but it also celebrates hope and the enduring spirit of freedom. Children can come by the Children’s Room and help us create a beautiful poster with their

handprint using glitter paint and check out our book display. No registration required!

DIY CERAMIC SHARK (Pick-Up for registrants only) Grades K-5

Swim over for a BITE! Children will bring home a kit by Cool Crafts so they can decorate a cute ceramic shark. JAW-some good fun! We will contact you when pick up is available. Registration begins Thursday, June 10th.

Join Chef Rob for another delicious dessert program. Whoopie Pies with strawberries, blueberries and a lemon cream filling. Perfect summer treat! Ingredients will be included in the kit. We will contact you when pick up is

HOLY COW (Pre-recorded) PreK-Grade 5

Have you heard the Moo’s? Fun Stuff Express is back for another Stuff-A-Cow adventure! Each child will get an adorable 16-inch Furry Friend to make for your very own. Build a stuffed animal, make a wish, decorate its T-Shirt and choose a name for the Birth Certificate. We will contact you when pick up is available. Registration

begins Wednesday, June 9th.

SUMMER GRAB AND GO CRAFT KITS (Pick-Up only) Swing by the Seaford Public Library and pick up a bag full of fun! Grab and Go Craft Kits will include

museums listed below. These free passes are available to Seaford Public Library cardholders in good standing who are 18 years and older. Passes may only be reserved once during a 30-day period and may be reserved up to one month in

advance. Visit www.seafordlibrary.org for more information about museum passes and how to borrow them. Please check hours/availability with

museums before your scheduled visit. Please note: Museum passes with an asterisk are Print-on-Demand Passes. They must be printed at home or in the
