GENERAL MANAGER’S NOTE

2

As a loyal supporter of KBTC, I know you believe in our mission that is grounded in education, civic discourse, community service and even public safety. As a supporter, you are also surely aware of the proposed federal budget cuts we continue to face and what its impact would be on public broadcasting and want to say thank you for your support during these uncertain times. Not only for your financial support, but for getting behind PBS as a cause. For contacting your local politicians and for sharing our mission in whether that be in conversation with family or friends or on social media. You’ve heard the numbers. Support for public television boils down to an average annual cost of $1.35 per American. That’s less than .01% of total federal expenditures. Here at KBTC, that adds up to 26% of our budget. You can think of it as seed money and the majority of additional funds we have left to raise on our own comes from donors. It comes from YOU – our neighbors. We can’t thank you enough for maintaining an active role in keeping KBTC on the air here through your donations and your vocal, honest, and heartfelt support. For our part, we will continue to work along with NPR and CPB to remind Members of Congress about the numerous ways local member stations serve their constituents and the strong bi-partisan support that exists for public media. With the continued support of special friends like you, KBTC will be able to keep the promise of public television alive in Western Washington for many generations to come.
