The Newmarket Chamber Welcomes New Directors to the Board!

Message from the Chair

Sara Jane Doner,Sara Jane Doner Sutton Group Future Realty Brokerage Inc.

2011 promises to be a very exciting year for our Chamber. A new Board, an active base of volunteers and dedicated staff will build on the signifi cant accomplishments and successes of this past year.

Maintaining high standards for service excellence, optimizing business processes and ensuring the Chamber provides high value programs and services to our members have been the core drivers of success over our long history, and they will continue to be going forward.

And yet, in these times of fast change and growth, the Chamber recognizes that small and medium sized businesses need a strong voice and a trusted source for information and ideas related to opportunities and how best to take advantage of them. This need, also identifi ed by the federal government, the Canadian Chamber of

Commerce, the Martin Prosperity Institute and others, is an important area for the Chamber to address. Based on our strategic plan and the tremendous popularity of the unique Business Knowledge Initiative, the Chamber will continue to invest in our members through strategic business education presentations, workshops and communications.

Further, the Chamber is putting into action our mission of Leading Businesses and Leading Communities, by continuing to work in close collaboration with community partners on key issues related economic development and transformation of Newmarket. The Prosperity Roundtable, the Health Care Commission and the Shared Digital Infrastructure partnerships allows the Chamber and its members to directly engage in shared dialogue with our community partners to chart a prosperous future for Newmarket.

New directions, as ever, can be risky. It requires an investment, backed by a strong vision and realistic plans. And yet, to choose not to innovate is a bigger risk, causing an organization to diminish in infl uence and value, as well as missed opportunities. We have achieved many successes in the past year that provide a solid base to continue our innovation initiatives, and we have all the necessary ingredients to be able to achieve our goals. I have great confi dence in the strategic directions and plans that have been laid out, and am excited to help chart the next chapter for the Chamber.
