Deppeler’s weather WE WANT RAIN, WE WANT RAIN, WHEN DO WE WANT IT? – NOW!!

Sounds like a protest doesn’t it? Not a lot all at once though, but about 10ml every week would be a great start, and no frosts, surely that’s not too much to ask?

If we don’t get 40ml more by the end of May, it will be our driest January to May on our records. Rainfall totals February - 32.5ml March – 38ml April – 35ml Up to 15th May – 16.5ml.

Total so far this year is 125ml, well short of the average for the same period of 285ml. The previous lowest five month period was in 1997 when we recorded only 166ml.

A bit of local history: On April 9

th, 1941, a meeting was held to

form an association of those supplying milk to the Yinnar Dairy Products Pty.Ltd. This was to become the Yinnar Milk Suppliers Association. The former milk factory in Yinnar is now the ART Resource Centre (ARC). In 1941/42, the Association had 71 members. N Courtney, D Shaw, JF Williams, E Loch, L McKenzie, J Lawless, W Espie, M Elliot, L Hall, T Holt, W Firmin, F Bond, J McKenzie, W Stoney, Lyall Bond, W Vagg, Chas Bond, W Williams, R Embleton, W Trew, A Caldwell, A Porter, Cyril Hare, W Jensen, WH Bond,

FW Alexander, F Derham, A Walker, J Bolding, J English, FB Alexander, L Smith, EA Smith, A Coleman, S Thomas, J Heesom, G Horsburgh, J Bennett, Bond & Quigley, W & C Bond, H Vinall, JW Bond, MF Walker, WJ Nuttall, E Muir, J&R Gilbert, C Walker, Cyril Bind, Reg Deppeler, Bert Fox, AC Morrison, SA Williams, AEL Deppeler, A Bell, E White, DG Williams, F Nadenbousch, R Walker, Dietrich & Jacjung, C O’Hara, O’Hara & Owen, J Hutcheson, Rintoull & Felmingham, T Collins, R Derham, Crutch-field & Son, Mrs M Amiet, EJ Hogan, Contoo Bros, AT Adam, and O Rowley. A lot of familiar names in the district - but there may only be about 20 dairy farms left in the Yinnar, Boolarra, Driffield and Hazelwood area.

Yinnar South Primary School News

Jacqui climbs to the ALPS

We are very proud of our wonderful grade six student

Jacqui who has just been accepted into the Advanced

Learning Program for Students at Kurnai Secondary College.

Jacqui sat an entrance test earlier this month and was

successful in her application to ALPS. Jacqui is looking

forward to secondary college but is a bit sad to be leaving

her Yinnar South Primary Family behind.

Small Schools are Cool Schools

Our little school is rapidly growing which is exciting

for the Yinnar South Community.

We have had three new enrolments in the last month

and already have prep enrolments for next year. We

have doubled in size since new principal Katy Grandin

started at the start of 2012. Most of our students are

in grade prep to four so we will only be losing one

student to secondary school over the next few years.

Our new logo and its emphasis on individual students

is attracting interest from parents looking for a more

personalised approach to their child’s education. Our

learning community works with students at their point of need. This flexible learning style

organises children at their stage not age and allows students to be extended as required.

School Tours can be organised by calling the school on (03) 5169 1540

Swimming Program

The students have recently attended a swimming program with the Pre service

teachers from Monash

University. The students were

spoilt with a ratio of more than

one teacher to each student.

We would like to thank Monash

University, Tim Lynch and the

Pre service teachers for this

opportunity. We had a great

time.

Lorax Library Launch and Information Night. Russell Northe, MP Member for Morwell attended the school and officially opened our newly refurbished

library . He kindly donated a signed Koco the clown book to to add to our collection. He helped us to thank our wonderful volunteers Jenny Rumble and Maria Chemis for all the hard work they have done redesigning the library. The evening started with a wonderful supper then the students shared some of their work with parents. After supper the children enjoyed watching The Lorax Movie on the Interactive Whiteboard in the library. The parents had an information session on our Ultranet reporting Project and on the way we are linking 21st Century Skills into our programs. It was a fun and informative evening and another opportunity for our lovely community to come together to celebrate our school.

HELP IN DIFFICULT TIMES

Remember Kramer vs Kramer and The War of the Roses? Your breakup doesn’t have to be the sequel. The honeymoon is over, the ink is barely dry on the pre-nup and there’s trouble in paradise. Breakups can be particularly brutal for parents and certainly the most traumatic for kids. Family Law Network Australia has recently launched their website to help the broken hearted through the difficult time of separation and divorce.

Family Law Network Australia aims to be a one-stop-shop for all things family law by providing you with choices so families can have a healthier post-separation experience. There are a range of ways to resolve family law disputes and on their website you will find information about separation and divorce, property settlement, parenting arrangements and child support. You will also find Family Law Lingo which is a knowledge base of commonly used family law terms with plain English definitions. Plus there is a selection of helpful storytelling books available to help your children cope with the change and a collection of papers written by leading family law academics.

Family Law Network Australia provides you with choices during overwhelming and emotionally-charged times and can connect you with the right family law professional to help you and your family.
