Year 7 Essential Learning Curriculum
Autumn 1 - TEAMWORK Autumn 2 - SPORTSMANSHIP Spring 1 – DETERMINATION
• Futsal• Baseline Tests• Rugby Union
All sports will be taught with a clear focus on Teamwork. This is to develop social skills and sporting ethics.
• Handball• Badminton • Rugby Union
Pupils will be assessed on their sportsmanship during gameplay as well as skill acquisition from the 2 sports named.
• Rugby Union• Fitness Training
Assessment will be through determination to overcome challenges. Fitness module to be developed by PE team. Rugby via RFU.
Spring 2 – PROBLEM SOLVING Summer 1 - LEADERSHIP Summer 2 - PERFORMANCE
• Tchoukball • Orienteering • Rugby Union
Both sports will be delivered with a focus on solving a problem. Tactical awareness to be assessed.
• Kwik Cricket • Student Choice
Pupils to experience leadership within lessons. KC delivered and pupils to choose from options.
• Athletics• Cricket/Rounders
Pupils are to be assessed on their ability to perform at maximum levels. Effort based system.

1. Introduction - to Futsal, ball control and passing. Develop to gameplay.
2. Short Passing – Short distance passing to team mates, differentiate touches etc.
Teamwork Skill Acquisition (Passing)
How? Teams are to complete as many passes as they can in 60 seconds.
How? Passing Targets – pupils to hit specific target related to points.
3. Shooting – Accurate shooting and its importance in gameplay. Different types of shot should be introduced.

How? Shooting Targets – Cones set out in goal areas, points for accuracy.
How? Passing during gameplay, using prior learning to embed skills.
4. Attacking – Principles of attack will be discussed and performed. Formations and tactical awareness will be the focus.
Teamwork Skill Acquisition (Shooting)
How? Teams need to discuss tactical play and will be assessed on its effectiveness.
How? Shooting during gameplay, students will perform shooting technique whilst under pressure.
5. Defending – Principles of defence will be analysed. Formations and tactical awareness will be the focus.
Teamwork Skill Acquisition (Finding Space)
How? Teams need to discuss tactical play and will be assessed on its effectiveness.
How? Skill will be assessed through observations during gameplay. Pupils should use space effectively.
6. Gameplay – Pupils are to perform Futsal in a game situation, including displaying knowledge of rules and regulations.
Teamwork Skill Acquisition (Passing/Shooting)
How? Pupils will be assessed on their team working effectiveness. Encouragement etc.
How? Assessment grading criteria for MEA Futsal will be used, pupils to self and peer assess performance.
