Panning for Gold One great way to raise money for the renovations is to collect Gold and Sil-ver and other precious metals. Gold is now worth $1280 per troy ounce (ozt) and silver is $15 per ozt. Perhaps you have that mangled chain or the wid-owed earring, donate it to the renovation. Maybe you have some sterling silverware pieces, an old ring or silver coins that just doesn't fit your style or are just taking up space in the draw-er, donate it. I can take it to a reputable dealer and get top dollar. It’s a painless way of giving and it really goes to a good cause. Simply bring your old gold, silver and coins to the rectory or after Mass give it to me. I can write a receipt for tax purposes if you like.

Thank you for your consideration, Fr. Paul.

All things are possible for one who believes, more to one who hopes, even more to one who loves.

August 15 Holy Day of Obligation

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Masses are in the church.

7:00 AM English 8:00 AM English 12:10 PM English

7:30 PM Bilingual

Candle-lit Rosary Procession to follow the 7:30 PM Mass

The Catholic Church teaches as dogma that the Virgin Mary "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory". This doctrine was dogmat-ically defined by Pope Pius XII on 1 November 1950, in the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus.

Mary, Un-tier of Knots Devotions to Our Lady, Un-tier of Knots to follow all Masses from August 15 to August 22, Feast of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (Before the 7:30 Mass on August 15). See p. 5 for the prayers; p. 6 in Spanish

K Knots, we all have them, those little annoying things in our lives that range from an uncomfortable itch to a raging pain in the … Some of our knots cause us to sin, others cause us to be an irritable nuisance to others and even a constant source of upset to ourselves and those around us. Our Lord is always ready to heal us, to bring us to wholeness and holiness, but we need to ask. And Our Lady is always in our corner. By her powerful advocacy and our persistent requests, how can the Lord do other than hear our pleas and straighten out our unruly lives. In the 18th century, when Fr. Lengenmantel of Germany painted the image of Our Lady, Un-tier of Knots, for a relative, he probably didn’t realize what a prophet he was. In the image that hangs in the Church of St. Peter am Perlach in Augsburg, Germany, Mary stands above a crescent moon, crushing a ser-pent under her foot. An angel passes a knotted white ribbon to Mary who unties the knots in the ribbon. Another angel receives the smooth, unknotted portion. By the power of Christ, Mary the great intercessor unravels the troubles in our lives, our marriag-es, our relationships. St. Irenaeus referred to Mary’s role as the Second Eve. He wrote that “the knot of Eve's disobedience was

loosed by the obedience of Mary. For what Eve had bound fast through unbelief, thus did Mary set free through faith" (Against Heresies). As Mary had faith in Christ, we can have faith that she, who knows God most, will be there for us.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees Mass September 29, 2019

12 Noon at the Cathedral Basilica The Church has been celebrating the World Day of Migrants and Refugees since 1914. It’s an occasion to express concern for many different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for their challenges and increase awareness about the opportunities that migration offers. For 2019, Pope Francis has chosen the theme “It is not just about migrants” to make sure no one remains excluded from society, whether a long-time resident or someone newly-arrived. Our local celebration will be highlighted by a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Tobin on Sunday, September 29th at noon in the Cathedral Basilica. All the faithful of the Archdiocese are invit-ed to this celebration of the unity and diversity of the Archdio-cese. All are invited to come in the dress of their native country to show the universality of the Archdiocese.

Join us after the Masses from August 15-22 or pray with us from home each day as we ask the Blessed Mother to unravel the knots in our lives that we may better serve her Son and love our neighbors. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. -Amen

Our Father..., Hail Mary..., Glory be... Let us ask our Heavenly Mother to assist those who are having difficulties with the knots in their lives. For those having marriage troubles, we pray:

Mary, Un-tier of Knots, pray for us. For those struggling with employment & financial problems, we pray: For those striving to persevere in the faith, we pray: For those suffering from illness, we pray: For those combating addiction & behavioral problems, we pray: For those dealing with loneliness, we pray: For those burdened with fears and worries, we pray: For those suffering discord in the family, we pray: For those overwhelmed by anguish or despair, we pray: For those victimized by violence or neglect, we pray: For those targeted by bigotry, we pray: For those struggling to let go of grudges, we pray: For those seeking to make peace, we pray: For the knots in our own lives, we pray: Holy Mary, full of the presence of God, during your life you accepted with great humility the Holy Will of the Father and the legacy of your Son Our Lord Jesus Christ. Evil never dared to entangle you with its confusion. Since then, you have interceded for all of our difficulties. With all simplicity and patience you have given us exam-ples on how to untangle the knots in our complicated lives. By being our Mother forever, you arrange and make clear the path that unites us to Our Lord. Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, with your ma-ternal heart untie the knots that upset our lives. We ask you to receive in your hands (mention who or prayer request in your heart) and deliver us from the chains and confusions that have us restrained. Blessed Virgin Mary, through your grace, your intercession and by your example, deliver us from evil, and untie the knots that keep us from uniting with God, so that once free of every confusion and error, we may find Him in all things, have Him in our hearts, and serve him always in our brothers and sisters. Amen Mother of Good Counsel --pray for us/me Through the intercession of Holy Mary, Un-tier of Knots, may almighty God bless you (us/me), the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. - Amen
