Writing Checks for the Collections Please make out any checks, whether to the parish or for spe-cial collections, to Holy Trinity Church. We then deposit it in the parish account and then write a singular check which is mailed to the Archdiocese which in turn is given to the intended recipient. Also, if you have been absent for a while and want to make up for past collections, write one check please. Each check that we deposit costs the parish 15 cents. So save yourself time and effort and write only one check for the full amount.

Thank You, Fr. Paul

RACHEL’S VINEYARD “Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope,

where everyone is welcomed, loved, and forgiven.” (Pope Francis)

The Church can also be a place to heal. We are called to “be merciful like the Father.” So many are suffering from the effects of abortion. Where can they heal? Where can they feel safe and loved? The Archdiocese of Newark Respect Life Office will be hosting four upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard retreats in 2022 to heal the wounds from abortion. Retreat dates are:

“The Father and I are one.” May 2 was the feast day of St. Athanasius. He was the patriarch of Alexandria in the early 4th century who was on a few occasions ex-iled by Arians. Arians, not Aryans, are the followers of Arius a priest who claimed that Jesus was not Lord and God. His heresy spread throughout the Roman Empire and caused civil unrest. After the Emperor Constantine’s conversion, he wanted to unite the Empire and called on the pope to rally the bishops in what became known as an Ecumenical Council. The first was at Nicaea in A.D. 325 where the bishops had to define the nature of Jesus Christ. What resulted is the Nicaean Creed in which we profess Jesus as true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father. It eventual-ly turns out that Mohammed based his new religion on a combina-tion of the local religions of Arabia, Judaism and the brand of Chris-tianity called Arianism which like Islam, claims Jesus not to be God. I have a met a few Moslems in my life, from a student to an Imam and to my barber and they all will say that Jesus, never said, “I am God.” That would be true if you did not know how to read the New Testament. Throughout the Gospels we are shown and taught that Jesus is God. Words can be meaningless without action and sound teaching. Today’s Gospel is clear. Jesus said, “The Father and I are one.” Jesus demonstrates that He and the Father are of one purpose, to give eternal life to the sheep. Also, in ancient Jewish understand-ing, father and son are considered one, after all he springs forth from his father’s loin. Jesus also wields the power of God. He calmed the seas, he raised the dead, he healed the sick, he changed water into wine and ulti-mately he changes bread and wine into his body and blood. God alone has power over nature and can do these things. Neither magi-cians nor prophets can do them. Likewise on 27 occasions Jesus identified himself as “I AM...” Most importantly in John 6:35 he says, "I am the bread of life...." referring not only to the Eucharist but that he is the source of life. In Revelation 1:8, he said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” referring to his eternal nature and eternity we know belongs only to God, without beginning or end. And most poignantly he refers to himself as I AM, as in “before Abraham was I AM.” This is significant be-cause it is God’s name. God revealed this name YaHWeH (translated as I AM) on Mt. Sinai. I believe that Jesus does not simply state “I am God” because he wants us to believe rather than have empirical data. As Jesus said to the disciples in the Cenacle, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me” (John 20:29). So when someone says that Jesus never claimed to be God, know that he did not have to claim it, he showed it to us and if our eyes are open to his love for us, who then can deny his divinity? The One who changed the elements, rose from the dead and breathed his Spir-it upon the apostles that they may go out to all the earth proclaiming the Goodness of God, is true God and true man.

Friday Adoration May 13

from 1:30 PM—6:30 PM (6:30 Vespers in Spanish)

2023 Mass Book opens May 9th. Sunday Masses intentions are limited to Two (2) per re-

quester. After June 15, the limit will be lifted. In the Second Book of Maccabees, it says: “He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, which he sent to Je-rusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin.” (2 Macc 43-46). Offer Masses for the Dead. They so much need our prayers so that soon they might enjoy the beatific vision of God. Masses are offered foremost for the deceased faithful. You may also offer Masses for the intentions of the living.

We are created in the image and likeness of God. The Church teaches that cremains are to be interred or entombed affording a deceased’s ashes the same respect due to the bodily remains of a Christian. The spreading of ashes, reserving them in urns in one’s home, or discarding them are not considered proper dispo-sition of human remains. Remember, the burying of the dead forever remains a Corporal Work of Mercy. What will happen to one’s loved one’s remains once you too have departed? Also, entombing your loved one’s remains on sacred ground, gives you the opportunity and future generations to visit and show respect to their ancestors as we await the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Also there are crypts still available at St. Joseph’s Ceme-tery.
