Conclusions• Zonal geostrophic velocity at maximum winter mixed

layer depth corresponds to lateral induction and subduction.

• Zonal geostrophic velocity at maximum winter mixed layer depth and the areas of SPTW both have a three-year cycle.

• SEC and the areas of SPTW both have several months lag with SOI.

• SEC contributes to the areas of SPTW.
