Look What We’re Studying…Language Arts:

Story of the Week for 1/13: Ruby in Her Own TimeWe will be discussing the consonant patterns of -ng and -nk in phonics. We will also be identifying compound words. We will practice segmenting, blending, and adding phonemes onto words. We will practice our listening and speaking skills by sharing information and ideas based on text. We will use appropriate phrasing and word order in our writing and aloud while sharing our opinion. We will review how to compare and contrast in reading as well as how to make inferences. We will practice writing with verbs and adding the –s ending onto verbs.

-I can identify the -ng and -nk ending.-I can explain a compound word.

-I can compare and contrast characters in a story.-I can write using verbs.

-I can make inferences in a story.

Story of the Week for 1/20: The Class PetIn phonics we will be discussing the r-controlled vowel or and ore. We will focus on the –es ending and how it changes a word to a plural. We will be using verbs in our writing and discussing verbs that do not add an –s. We will practice our fluency in reading and discuss fact and opinion. We will work on monitoring our listening and using appropriate phrasing. We will also continue to segment and blend phonemes

and syllables.-I can identify the –es ending.-I can use verbs in my writing.

Math:In math we will continue Unit 5 of Everyday Math. We will review place value, greater than, equal to, and less than by comparing numbers. We will begin to explore area, weight, and counting with objects. We will compare weights of objects and animals. We will focus on more than and less than in number stories and comparison number stories.

Learning Targets:-I can identify the ones and tens place.

-I can use less than, equal to, or greater than to compare numbers.-I can discuss weight.

-I can compare the weight of objects.-I can solve a number story.

Science: We will continue to discuss energy transformations in science. We will explore and discuss the different types of energy and we will discuss the definition of energy: the ability to do work.
