Work Package 2 – Communication and Information
Work package 2 (WP2) was chaired by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and was implemented with support of all project partners. The aim of WP2 was to promote the project's activities and the results of other WPs. By means of a robust communication, information and dissemination strategy, WP2 raised awareness about the project, communicated its development and disseminated the materials and documents produced as part of it across the Baltic Sea Region. All major actions were combined to a separate communication plan produced in the beginning of the project.
There are many stakeholders and potential end-users in sustainable river basin management whose participation is essential if long-term developments are to be achieved: State, regional and local government, the mass media, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and formal education institutions (i.e. schools, universities, research and training institutes). WP2 therefore did not only communicate the project and its results, but also catalysed concerted efforts and truly cross-sectoral and transnational initiatives and practical activities.
It was one of the unique features of this project to combine approaches, methods and analyses which illustrate the contribution of innovation, education and communication to the cause of sustainable river basin management and, at the same time, promoted project's findings.
The project communication was split into internal and external communication. Internal communication is the communication within the partnership of Waterpraxis. This communication was conducted via emails, telephone calls, management group meetings and steering group meetings. Furthermore the partners used a closed partner section on the website to share results, meeting minutes, presentations, etc. with each other.
External communication comprises the communication of the project partners to people, institutions and organizations outside the partnership. This part of the communication was done by the use of various instruments:
First of all, a corporate identity was established for the Waterpraxis project. A project logo (Fig. 1), as well as a project flyer, a poster (Fig. 2) and a roll-up were produced. These were distributed at suitable events, conferences and fairs to promote the project to a wide audience. Furthermore the project partners used word and power point templates with the project logo as well as the EU and the Baltic Sea Region logo to communicate information about the project.

A public project website (www.waterpraxis.net) has been set up and was regularly updated within the project life time (Fig. 3) and will continue to be available beyond the project period. The website informs about the background of the project, the partners, the aims and objectives as well as the project's final outcomes. Events in the area of water management were announced and links to related projects have been established. A special area of the website was set up to inform about the 4 pilot projects that took place in Finland, Poland, Lithuania and Denmark. Events organised by the project were also announced and promoted on the website (see table 1). Online registration procedures were used as an easy and comfortable way for participants to apply for the events.

Each 6 months a newsletter about the latest activities and results of Waterpraxis was produced together with all project partners (Fig. 4). Altogether 6 issues (in total 6000 copies) were printed and distributed, and made available on-line. The newsletter was sent to stakeholders by regular mail as well as by email. Furthermore all issues of the newsletters are available as a pdf document for downloading on the website.

Several press releases and publications in magazines (see table 3), 6 newsletters and online media have been published in order to disseminate the activities of Waterpraxis. The project was also highlighted in some radio interviews as well as on TV. Furthermore, a book of abstracts was produced in the frame of the midterm Symposium in Oulu in January 2011. In addition to this final report, a final booklet was produced, which is meant to summarise the project and its achievements and to provide the information to a wide audience in an easy accessible way. All reports written within the work of the other WPs are available on the Waterpraxis website.
