About BEETS BEETS (Band of Environmentally Educated and Employable Teens) is a paid internship program for teens to develop job skills through our community gardens. Interns learn how to maintain gardens and grow food, learn critical job readiness skills, and assist teaching garden classes to youth. What do BEETS Interns do?

• Maintain community and school gardens in the Western Addition • Assist garden education classes for elementary school students • Attend job training and career development workshops (past workshops include resume &

cover letter writing, job search skills, financial literacy, guest speakers) • Attend field trips (past trips include the farmer’s market, camping in the Presidio, Green

Gulch Farm, Bi-Rite Market, Pie Ranch) • Support CommunityGrows events in the community

El igibi l i ty

• 15-19 years old on September 24, 2015 • Currently living in San Francisco, with priority to Western Addition residents • Ability to attend all work shifts between September 24, 2015 – December 10, 2015 • Positive work ethic and motivation to succeed • Legally employable in the United States

Program Structure

• 100 hour internship from Sept 24, 2015 – Dec 10, 2015 (11 weeks – approx. 9hrs/week) • Tuesdays and Thursday 3:45pm-5:45pm • 1-2 Saturdays per month • 1 additional weekday shift based on availability • ~$1,074 stipend, depending on hours worked • Potential to be re-hired for up to three sessions (fall, spring, summer) if eligibility is met

(stipend amounts increase if re-hired)

Locations We mainly meet at John Muir Elementary School at 380 Webster Street. But on some days, you might be asked to work at various locations in the community:

• Koshland Community Garden – Page and Buchanan Streets, SF • Rosa Parks Elementary School Garden – 1501 O’Farrell St, SF
