We’ll check out online tools that help save time and keep your students excited about word study.

Where Do I Start?

You’ll access all of the digital resources at SavvasRealize.com.

Click Sign In to log in to your account.

If you don’t have log-in credentials, visit the Savvas Realize™ page on My SavvasTraining.com for instructions.

Once you’re at the home page, you can access program resources as well as classroom management and data-tracking tools.

Table of Contents

Click the Words Their Way Classroom image under Programs to get to the Table of Contents.

Look at the digital resources for all five levels of the program!

Let’s check out the Getting Started tab first. You’ll find some really helpful resources here, including videos,

background information about word study and how the program is organized, and tools to help you plan

and administer assessments.

Also from the TOC, you can access a digital version of the Teacher Resource Guide. However, the easiest way

to get there is by clicking eText in the menu bar. This version lets you view Teacher Resource Guide content

for all five stages. In a minute, we’ll see how to view content for a specific level or sort.

The TOC also includes a digital version of the Implementation Guide.

On the right, look for the Teacher Resources menu. This menu includes printable PDFs, such as directions

for administering Qualitative Spelling Inventories as well as word sort games.

And make sure you scroll down to the bottom of the TOC, where there are even more handy resources, like

the Spell Check Assessments and Qualitative Spelling Inventory, as well as digital versions of the Classroom

Library and Big Book of Rhymes poems.

Interactive Teacher Resource Guide

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite part: the Interactive Teacher Resource Guide. It’s just like the print

version, but it also has point-of-use access to digital versions of sort resources and activities.

I love using this resource when time is short because everything is in one place, and the kids love mixing it

up and getting to work online!

The top of the page lists the focus of the sort.

Under Sort Overview, you’ll find information about the Generalization that the sort addresses along with the

student objective. And check out the Materials section. Click each item listed here to open the digital

version. You’ll get a chance to take a closer look at this section in a moment.

On the left side of the page, you’ll find directions for each step of the sort, as well as information from the

Supporting All Learners section.

Click the arrow next to each heading to view all of the same information provided in the print version of the

Teacher Resource Guide.

Online Assessment

Savvas Realize also includes some great digital assessment tools. Let’s look at a Spell Check Assessment.

After you assign the assessment to your students, it will appear in their Savvas Realize accounts.

When taking the assessment, students can listen to a recording of the directions for each test item before

typing a response. They can also view their progress as they make their way through the assessment.

After students submit their answers for review, they can immediately view an itemized score summary.

Class and Student Data

Once my students submit their work, I use the Data tab to see how they did. I start by looking at the average

score for the class. Then, I drill down to get more information about class and individual performance.

Keep in mind that you can also assign and administer the Qualitative Spelling Inventory online. Be sure to

have your Feature Guide handy for scoring.
