What’s NEW at Woodward Memorial Library

To request these items, ask at the front desk or call the Library at 768-8300.

Join the Library’s free 1,000 Books

Before Kindergarten program to help your

child get ready to read. This is a nationwide

challenge that encourages parents to

regularly read aloud to their children.

The concept is simple, and the rewards

are priceless. Read a book (any book) to

your infant and/or toddler. The goal is to

have read 1,000 books (yes, you can reread

books) before kindergarten. Does it sound

hard? Not really if you think about it. If you

read just one book a night, you will have

read about 365 books in a year. That is 730

books in two years and 1,095 books in three

years. If you consider that most children

start kindergarten at around five years of

age, you have more time than you think!

Each time your child reads a hundred

books, the Library gives them a sticker.

When they reach 1,000, they get a free

t-shirt. Sign up today at the Library! You will

receive reading logs to track your progress

and suggested ideas to enhance the

program.

You are your child’s first and most

important teacher! You know your child best

and can work with them at times when they

are in the mood to learn. What you do now

helps your child become a lifetime reader.
