Achieving Success in a Caring Environment

Minnamurra Rainforest On Thursday June 23, 5/6B , 5/6K and Year 2 went to Minnamurra rainforest and we had a great time looking at all the different trees and plants. We also learnt that the word ‘’Minnamurra’’ means ‘’plenty of fish’’. We saw lots of animals like lyrebirds and swamp wallabies. The walk was great but people got tired. The waterfalls were a great experience. We were so glad that it rained so we could see the waterfalls .

Multicultural Public Speaking

Last term our school participated in the Multicultural public speaking competition. We represented stage 2 and Evelyn and Jessica represented stage 3. It was challenging but it was enjoyable. We got closer as a team and became good friends. We were shaking with nerves but felt confident by the time we got up for our speech. We were given helpful feedback from the adjudicator to work on for next time. We also had to do impromptu speeches which were difficult but fun. The impromptu topic was 'Older and Wiser'. It is something we both need to work on. Can't wait until next time !

Achieving Success in a Caring Environment

Dear Parents and Caregivers Education Week Upon returning to school for Term Three, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our students, parents and friends. In Term Three we aim to continue to provide quality teaching and learning for our students. This term we celebrate Public Education with Education Week being held from Monday August 1 to Friday August 5. The theme for 2016 Education Week is Shared Stories, better learning, Connected Communities. On our front page you will see our schedule of celebration. We hope you are able to join us especially on Education Day, Thursday August 4, when our students will showcase their singing, dancing, public speaking and writing work. With the grandparents’ morning tea and family picnic lunch, it is a joyous occasions for our students, to share with their families. Book Week We will also be celebrating Book Week in the same week. One of our activities is the annual Book Parade. This year the theme is Australia. Story. Country. We are asking students to dress up as their favourite book character. It could be Harry Potter, Hercules, Annie or Batgirl. The parade is on Tuesday August 3 at 1.30pm. We hope to see you there! NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week will be acknowledged on Tuesday August 2 with a special performance. Sean Choolburra, one of Australia’s most loved and acclaimed indigenous performers. Sean fuses his engaging energy and humour with historical facts, spiritual wisdom, depth of understanding and knowledge; he is an exciting and talented cultural ambassador. The cost of attending is $5.00. Please see the cream note included with this newsletter. LMBR (Leading Management Business Reform) All public schools in NSW will be transitioning to a new finance system. This new finance system (LMBR) will have a major impact on the way we do business and will affect all of us. This term, Mrs Connor and Mrs Masters will be attending 15 training days and I will be attending 5 days. We have to prepare for the new system to ‘go live’ at the beginning of Term Four. So please be kind to the office ladies, they will be learning a new system while maintaining our old financial system. During this term they will be required to move between the two systems. As our training progresses I will keep you up to date with changes that will affect you and your child. The biggest challenge I see for parents at this stage will be meeting deadlines for payment of excursions and performances. The new computer system will close down acceptance of funds a week before the event and we will be unable to accept late payments. We will all need to improve our punctuality, both with notes going home and returning. Skoolbag App In an effort to improve our communications, we have purchased the Skoolbag app for our school. The Woodland Road Public School Skoolbag App will allow us to keep you up to date with important information and changes such as events, late excursion buses and when money is due. It is really easy to download. So let us notify you when notes go home and help us work together for your child! School Photo Survey Would you like to have a say regarding which company takes our school class and individual photos? Were you happy with the photos this year? We would love to know what you think; please take time out to quickly complete the school photo survey with this newsletter. Look for the blue sheet. Parent Conference – The Power of Positive Thinking On Thursday 1 September the Campbelltown and Macarthur Schools hold a parent conference at John Warby Public School in Airds. The Keynote speaker is the former Governor of New South Wales, Professor The Hon Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO. The theme of the conference is ‘The Power of Positive Thinking’; empowering all to shine through the awakening of a positive mindset. If you are interested in attending or would like some more information, please contact the school office or myself.

Regards

Carol Gruden Principal
