captures the essence of what we are trying to do. We are fortunate to have a MTV Star Singer, Sreekant Krishnamurthy (who also works for TCS in HR) as one of our committed members who composed and sang the lyrics. He was accompanied on the guitar by Vivek and supported by our talented team members Gemma, Sushmita, Mona, Sharmistha and Deepa in singing the lyrics which are…

…WoMentoring is a brand new story…

To make an impact on our audience and engage with our members, the WoMentoring team did something a little differently…we created a WoMentoring jingle which is catchy and

WoMentoring it’s a brand new story Coz she deserves all the fame and glory

She cares for the young, she cares for the old

She is a true rockstar, beautiful and bold WoMentoring...

Her targets are a challenge, and deadlines are tough

But she rises like an angel, when the going gets rough WoMentoring...

If only I was God, I'd grant all her wishes

Coz after a hard day at work, remember who does the dishes??

WoMentoring...

he Start: We were fortunate to have our event kick started by Rajeev Dubey – National President of the NHRDN Network and President of Group HR, Aftermarket sector and Corporate Services of Mahindra & Mahindra. Incidentally this was Rajeev’s first public engagement after his appointment as the National President of the NHRDN Network and a great honor for the Mumbai Chapter to have him flag off our initiative which is fully supported by all. In his

remarks, Rajeev touched upon the need to have research on diversity which was India-based and complimented our partners SHRM for the research paper they are sponsoring, as such research helps us understand gender diversity issues better from a more holistic perspective.

T “I am very pleased to welcome all

of you here this morning to listen,

reflect on and learn from the

personal stories of three Women of

Influence-three very different

stories from three very different

women who have shaped their own

destinies and yet inspired others”

Isa Godrej (Executive Director, Godrej Consumer Products): Covered areas like the need to feel privileged being one of the educated professionals in Corporate India. She highlighted the fact that female education and drop out ratios are so alarmingly high that few reach the corporate world. Thereafter the challenge of a home and career often force women to stay at home. She cited the example of Ursula Burns as a role model and motivator.

She raised a question on what are we doing to increase the employability of our women? That is the real challenge. She felt that Corporates need to have mandate to have more women on board, Godrej has 30-35 % women on board.

N “If you are passionate

and haven’t met the right

man, don’t get married,

go right ahead and

get involved in work.

Choose a corporate with a

good culture and where

your boss will encourage

your holistic growth”

The Q&A round post Nisa’s talk was handled by Navnit Nakra (Regional Head – North for the Institutional Liabilities Business, Citibank).

hanti Ekambaram (President, Corporate & Investment Banking, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.): spoke from the heart. She shared her personal career graph and the challenges and opportunities that were thrown at her every step of the way. She gave the audience some very practical examples of how she handled difficult situations. She stressed on the fact that her upbringing and education

shaped her career choices and often she used obstacles as opportunities to progress.

S “Go out and experience the

real world. It’s important

to experience all aspects of a

role before you can make a

final choice on whether that

is going to be your passion”

Sonali Roychowdhury (Head – Human Resources, Procter & Gamble) handled the Q&A session.

oopa Purushothaman (MD & Head of Research, Everstone Capital): She explained that most of her life she was based in the US and has recently relocated to India. She said that while women face challenges in the corporate workforce all over the world in India, we are still feudal. She feels that the job that one takes must really be one which one is passionate about. In her example she says that if she did not enjoy her job, she would not want to leave her baby at

home and go to work which would be the case with most women.

R “Challenges can be of

various types – Often

I need to use a proxy

to communicate in

India because of my

American accent!”

Here is Roopa engaging with the audience in the Q&A round. The session was handled by Sonali.

What’s next… The WoMentoring Survey…

We request your attention to a matter which is close to all of us - Women's issues in the workplace.

With 25% of our working population being women and a large representation in the HR community, we realized how little we actually know about women in the corporate workforce. Their thoughts and aspirations and their ability to balance their equally important commitments of a being a mother, managing a career, being a partner and elder care-giver in a largely male-dominated world are some of the roles they play on a daily basis.

The WoMentoring Initiative of the NHRD Network Mumbai Chapter represents our commitment towards focusing on issues concerning inclusion and practical difficulties faced in life by working women. Towards this end, we have undertaken a systematic research project to learn about how today's workplaces are affecting career aspirations and personal well-being. We want to learn what organizations are doing / and can do, to make the workplace more conducive for women and men, particularly those who are raising a family and /or caring for an elderly family member.

The NHRD Network, Mumbai, has entered into a joint research agreement with Horizons Work Force Consulting, an international work/life consultancy which is a US based organization who have done pioneering work in this area and who will partner with us in conducting this survey. Your participation in the collection of this important information is a critical part of this process.

The data so collected is part of a pilot research project which will be the first of its kind focusing on these issues, and will be immensely useful for organizations to plan their requirements for providing a better workplace for women.

On behalf of the WoMentoring Committee of the NHRD Network Mumbai Chapter, thank you in advance for your support in filling in the questionnaire.

All you need to do is click on the url: http://www.researchstar.com/nhrdsurvey/ and follow the step by step process. The deadline for completion of the same is August 28. May I please request you to spare just 15 minutes of your valuable time and complete this survey…
