Computer repair sales joy.

Love your computer again!

1010 North Blvd | Oak Park, IL708-529-8870

A sign often sits outside a shop at 1010 South Blvd. in Downtown Oak Park, with an enticing offer: “Give your

Computer a Spa Treatment.” Like the Tin Man in the Emerald City, you imagine your computer being oiled and polished, made shiny and good as new. The name of the shop is Every Last Byte and for just over a two years now, owner Adrianne Roach has been tuning, repairing, cleaning and up-grading computers making them hum again like the fi rst day they came out of the box.

An Oak Park mom and network engineer, Adrianne opened Every Last Byte not just to provide computer repair and sales, but to do so with a personal touch. “My two passions are great computers and great customer service,” Adrianne says, “I don’t just clean viruses out of your computer, but I also help you understand how to prevent viruses in the future and what precautions you can take with children and teenagers in the house.” Adrianne is always happy to answer computer questions and offer advice. Are you thinking about buying a new computer, but don’t know which one to get? Do you need a laptop or a tablet? Adrianne can be the personal I.T. Department you always wanted.

If your once super-fast computer has now become slow as molasses, your email has disappeared, or your new software is impossible to use, Every Last Byte promises to make you “love your computer again.” In addition to repair, Adrianne offers wireless and wired networks, fi rewall set-up and as-sessment, server set-up and maintenance, password recovery, performance tuning, and computer recycling. Every Last Byte sells Dell PCs, and also creates custom com-puters to fi t individual needs—and made with earth-friendly products.

In addition, for the budding engineer in your family, Every Last Byte carries snap-circuit build-it-yourself robots. For the au-diophile on your holiday list, check out the incredible Sonos wireless sound system.

“There is so much awesomeness con-tained in this small, cute computer shop,” gushed a recent customer, “It’s a woman-owned business with real people hours, and most importantly, great service.”

Every Last Byte is open Tuesday-Saturday from Noon-6:00 PM or by appointment. You can call them at 708-529-8870, or learn more online at everylastbyte.com

Deb Sloan began party planning at age 17 when she orchestrated a theme event on a whim. The

Western themed party was complete with homemade bandanas, hats and “Most Wanted” posters made from paper bags. It even included a sandbox for guests to pan for gold nuggets, made from spray painted dry dog food, and trade them for food and beverages at the cardboard saloon.

Years later and with much experience organizing and running celebrations of all types she began to focus on creating and specializing in all types of larger celebrations and events.

In recent years Deb Sloan has developed and coordinated numerous annual village wide events including The Haunted Hallways and Trick or Treat event in Scoville Square, Santa arrival and Magical Tree lighting, Santa Saturdays, The Bunny Bop and Family puppets show, to name a few. Ms. Sloan's business offers event planning services for all types of celebrations from birthday parties to corporate events and promotions. She also specializes in decorating homes, offi ces and retailers no matter how small or large.

Ms. Sloan sees each day as an opportunity

to create memories for guests with her event planning and decorating skills. The smiles on the faces of satisfi ed clients are the reason she loves her job so much.

It has long been recognized that great athletes need great coaches to reach their full potential. The same is true for

musicians and artists. Yet entrepreneurs often think they have to go it alone.

Business Coach Terri Fry Brukhartz helps entrepreneurs gain perspective on their businesses and overcome the roadblocks that prevent them from achieving their vision. “Too often entrepreneurs end up letting their businesses run them instead of the other way around,” Brukhartz says, “I help them create the business they dreamed of when they first decided to go out on their own.”

Brukhartz is professionally trained to work with people on a different level than most other coaches. She is both a trained psychotherapist (LCSW) and a certified coach (PCC). She also has an extensive business background that includes employment in the corporate world for Leo Burnett and CBS, and founded her own successful sales company, The Fry Group, Inc.

Although she has worked with businesses of all sizes, including Fortune 500 companies, Brukhartz especially loves working with entrepreneurs and other small business owners. She has a keen understanding of the dreams that motivate people to start their own businesses—the

desire to make more money, to have more time with family and friends and to escape being a slave to the corporate system. Achieving those dreams, however, is never a given, and frequently the day-to-day stresses of running a business present the greatest o b s t a c l e s . Eventually, a business owner wakes up one day and realizes that he or she is just not having fun anymore.

B r u k h a r t z works with her clients to help them fully u n d e r s t a n d what they love and don’t love about what they do. “I am very committed to people creating a life that they love,” she says, “Your work should enhance your life not detract from it.” By building upon what they are passionate about and focusing on what they do best, Brukhartz is able to guide her clients along a path that is both profitable and fulfilling. The results, she asserts, have been born out by her experience.

According to Brukhartz, one of her greatest successes was the case of two partners who came to her because they were working all the time, but not having the kind of success that they wanted. “Like most entrepreneurs, they were really good

at what they did,” she recalls, “but their business wasn’t making enough money for them to live comfortably. We worked together closely and within the first six months, they were able to increase their revenue by 50%. It doubled at the end of twelve months.”

One of the goals of the partners was to finally go on vacation. Brukhartz helped them eventually find a way to close their business for a week, go out of town, and return without missing a beat. “People don’t realize they can do that sort of thing,” she added, “They think the whole business will go under if they aren’t there to watch over it. But if you create a sound foundation of devoted clients or

customers, then anything is possible.”

Increasingly, businesses are using coaching to produce exceptional results. CEO’s of large and medium sized companies have for years brought in coaches for both themselves and their employees. Now, as Brukhartz attests, entrepreneurs are beginning to see that they don’t have to go it alone, that a good coach can make an extraordinary difference and provide a great return-on-investment.

In addition to one-on-one coaching, Brukhartz is also active in group education for entrepreneurs. She is the founder of Oak Park’s own one-day business conference, Marketing Mania, as well as a monthly meet-up group, Successful Marketing Strategies for Small Businesses, that she formed with web designer Beth Bannor (the next gathering is Wednesday, November 5 at 9am – rsvp at meetup.com). You can even download a free white paper on marketing for entrepreneurs by going to www.coachterri.com.

Coming in January, Brukhartz will be offering a nine-week intensive marketing class for small business owners.

If you’d like to learn more about how Terri Fry Brukhartz can help you, or about her upcoming class, call 708-386-0500 or email her at [email protected].

I am in so much awe when I see people living their dreams. I feel honored to be

a part of it. - Terri Fry Brukhartz

What kind of kitchen do you want?

The kitchen is the center of the home, a touch point for sharing conversation and promoting family

time. For kitchen designer, Pamela Polvere, a successful kitchen environment is one that draws in and engages the whole family. “My clients trust me to help create one of the most important spaces in their home,” she says, “and I love every minute of the process.”

For Polvere, the design process begins with listening. While all designers have their own aesthetic, sometimes it can be hard for them to separate their own design preferences from what the client wants. In her 25 plus years experience in the business, however, Polvere has learned that only by truly listening to her clients, can she understand what they want and provide them with the designs that exactly fit their needs and their preferences.

Here is what some of Polvere’s clients have had to say about their experience:

“You literally are a part of every day here at the Hopkinson house! I think of you every time I’m in my beautiful, hard-working kitchen -- it’s really true!” – Deborah

“Thank you so much for your guidance and assistance. Your involvement eased our stress during this significant remodel and resulted in an end product that far exceeded our expectations. We love you dearly!” – Lisa and Paul

Of all the many kitchens that she has created, Polvere, names her own mother’s kitchen as her most successful project. “She owns a bed and breakfast in Oak Park,” Polvere recounts, “and after a decade of being open, the kitchen needed a face-lift. I loved working with my mom and altering the kitchen that I grew up in. In this case the space was going to be so much more than a kitchen. It was the touch point of my mother’s business. People from all around the country would sit at the table and enjoy their coffee. Stories would be shared from all corners of life and I had the chance to create that environment.”

What kind of environment do you want to create for your own family? Pamela Polvere can help you get there. Pamela Polvere Designs is located at 7506 W Grand Ave. in Elmwood Park. Call her at 708-456-2066 or visit www.pamelapolveredesigns.com.

ing!No Shopping! No ChoppDinner Solutions for busy families each week Su Jang grew up in her father’s

Chinese American restaurant. Raised with a passion for food and all things

delicious, Jang began working in the family business from a very young age, cooking for the staff by the time she was ten. Today, food continues to connect her to parents, both of whom have since passed away. “I will look through their cookbooks,” she says, “and make a childhood recipe and instantly I am back in time and flooded with happy memories.” With her business, New Rose Catering, Jang gets to share her talent for cooking and continue her family legacy of making people happy with great food.

Originally, Jang began New Rose Catering as a catering-only business. Then, a family asked her if she would be their personal chef. It was an idea she had never considered, thinking that a personal chef was something only celebrities had. Quickly, though, she realized that there was a huge need for her services. Busy families were struggling to put dinner on the table and getting tired of just ordering out. Instead of just catering large parties, Jang found herself making meals for individual families. “In essence,” she says, “New Rose Catering could be called New Rose Kitchen.”

Today, while still providing catering services, Jang also prepares weekly meals and offers free delivery to Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park, Monday through Thursday evenings. Each week she prepares two fresh soups and three entrees, selecting seasonal and fresh ingredients and incorporating recipes that are both comforting yet healthy. Since all of her meals are freshly prepared, Jang can accommodate special dietary requests easily such as vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

There are few things more satisfying than a successful family meal, and Jang loves the immediate gratification she gets from her customers, often in a text or email after dinner. One message said, “My kids are picky eaters and I thought they would NEVER touch dinner but they ate it and asked for seconds.” For Su Jang, that was the “BEST COMPLIMENT EVER!”

For holiday parties or family dinners, Su Jang can be contacted at 708.261.6908 or [email protected]. You can also visit her website (starting in November) at www.newrosecatering.com.

The pursuit of home happiness begins with a click (Properties)

There are many reasons why people buy and sell property. For some it’s a fi rst step towards fi nancial inde-

pendence. For others it’s new home for their family or business. Some people are upsizing, some downsizing and some are just looking to diversify their investment portfolio. Others are looking for good schools, a safe neighborhood and a com-munity they can connect to. But no one is just looking to buy a house. They are look-ing for happiness, comfort and security. For Realtor Christie Day-Gee, broker and owner of Click Properties in Oak Park, un-derstanding what your family needs to be happy is the real business of Real Estate.

“I consider myself to be a professional consultant,” Day-Gee says, “The sale of Real Estate in and of itself is secondary to my primary goal: to help my clients achieve their goals.” It is important, Day-Gee believes, to take her clients through a process of self discovery, to help them examine, prioritize and really understand their goals. “A professional consultant does not best serve you by telling you what you want to hear, they best serve you by telling you what you need to know” she says.

A successful outcome comes only when you set out for the right destination, but sometimes it’s hard to envision what that really is. “Often clients come to me with a specifi c objective in mind,” she says, “yet, after engag-ing in the consul-tation process, we discover that what they really want is something else en-tirely.”

Historically, the real estate indus-try has been driven by scarcity and control of information. People looking to buy or sell a home had little choice but to rely on a Real Estate agent for information. Today, however, it only takes a few key strokes to have ac-cess to almost as much information as a Realtor, a development that Day-Gee sees as a positive. “I love it!” she insists. “By the time my clients come to me they have already explored their dreams, done their research and spent time becoming edu-cated and informed. I love that they come to me not in spite of this but because of it.” These clients, according to Day-Gee, have come to realize that there’s a lot more to the process than data. All Real Estate-driven pursuits must involve de-tailed data-driven analysis, but Day-Gee

believes that how her clients feel about the process is just as important. “There’s no reason or value in ‘going it alone’ when the analysis, guidance and comfort I pro-vide my clients through consultation pays for itself by its value to them. The skills and knowledge I provide my clients helps them achieve their dreams and goals in a way that not only minimizes stress but fosters a sense of excitement about what-ever future life they hope to transition to.”

Day-Gee attri-butes her passion for helping people fi nd just the right home to her up-bringing in Chi-cago. As a child, she and her single mother, a Chica-go public school teacher, moved fre-quently, changing apartments almost every year. The dream of having a permanent home, so elusive to her as a child, became her career as an adult.

“Everyone wants comfort and security. It is my passion to help my clients achieve those things.”

“Christie really made a point of under-standing our needs.” says Brian Diet-meyer, CEO at Think! Inc., and one of Day-Gee’s long-time clients. “Her insight and analytic skills have been of great value to us.”

Hard work + Education + Passion = Success. It is a simple formula, and though it could be

said for almost any profession, it is the ruling mantra of the James Anthony Salon. Owners Tina and Jim Salerno beam with pride when they talk about the talent and devotion of their Team. “They are always learning,” Tina says, “always striving and totally dedicated to the hair craft and beauty industry.”

The James Anthony Team is comprised entirely of women and for Tina, helping these women to be independent and successful, to balance their family and career, is one of her primary goals. She tells her Team members that it’s not enough to just work hard in the salon, they need to make the same effort in every aspect of their lives. “When there is harmony in a person’s heart,” Tina says, “then it shows in everything they do.” But Tina doesn’t stop there. At James Anthony working hard also means looking good. “We are hairstylists,” she says, “but we are also fashion and beauty mentors. It’s our responsibility to give our guests the added confidence that comes with always looking and feeling their best.”

The James Anthony Team is a close knit group. The success and growth of the salon is reflected in the respect and rapport that the team members have with one another. They work together seamlessly, helping, cheering, encouraging, and always focused on the guest. The James Anthony Experience as they call it, begins when you are greeted by one of the salon coordinators, either Maria, Yim or Sue. These women reserve your appointments and answer your questions. They are your first impression of the salon and your parting friendly smile.

The hairstylists are comprised of the Master Stylists, Lindsay W. and Tina, the Senior Stylists, Jenna, Jackie, Laura and Stephanie, and the Stylists, Lindsay D., Victoria, Lacy,

Erika, Domenica, Lauren, Lupe, and Raz. Perhaps, though, the most memorable part of the James Anthony Experience is the Luscious Lather Shampoo, a fifteen minute head and neck massage. This, Tina credits to the salon’s “amazing assistants,” Alessandra, Mandi, Jae, and Kelsey. Rounding out the Team are the nail technicians, Daisy and Stella, who just celebrated her twentieth anniversary with James Anthony last month.

Both Tina and Jim credit much of their success to their recruiting efforts, a process that is made easier by their connection as part-owners to three Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Schools, Chicago,Chicago-West Campus (Lombard) and Escanaba, Michigan. They are able to choose from among the most talented and promising graduates. “These young professionals bring their personalities, stories, experiences, and heart to everything they do,” Tina says, “Yet

they truly understand the importance of people, that we need to exceed the expectations of our guests every time.”

In the spring of this year, James Anthony Salon relocated to Marion Street in Downtown Oak Park. Tina is effusive when talking about her new neighborhood, “It has really re-awakened and re-inspired all of us. It’s amazing here, so much fun and filled with life. It has really brought out the best in our team.” For the Salernos, the new beautiful salon is the perfect

space to showcase the knowledge, skill and passion of the Team. “We are excited about our first holiday season in Oak Park,” Jim says, “we have been taking reservations through the end of the year and our schedules are looking very busy.”

Coming up soon, James Anthony will again offer it’s popular holiday promotions. Like last year, guests who purchase a pro-tool for 20% Off will receive a $25 Bonus Gift Card to use in January/February of 2015. “We love this,” Tina says, “because it’s like receiving 2 gifts, the gift of an amazing pro-tool for great hair days, and a bonus gift card that you can treat yourself with or share with someone on your list.” Though the salon offers a variety of other product promotions, the James Anthony Experience itself might well be your best bet. Treat the special people on your list with a gift card. They’ll be hooked from the moment the Luscious Lather begins.

The women of the James Anthony Team are ready to provide for your every beauty need, from hair to

toe. Visit them at 115 N Marion Street, Oak Park, or call for a reservation, 708.383.3100. Find them online at jamesanthonysalon.com, or on facebook.com/jamesanthonysalonandspa.

ACCREDITED STAGING PROFESSIONAL and a CERTIFIED LUXURY HOME MARKETING SPECIALIST

“Our home was beautiful and well-maintained, but overloaded with 40+ years of accumulated possessions. We needed to sell

quickly, but had no idea how to proceed. Patti walked through the house with us room by room, and explained what we needed to do inside and out to make it attractive to buyers. we did exactly as she suggested--and the result was four serious offers within the first three days on the market! Patti helped us decide among them, and negotiated timing, terms,

and price that met our needs. When a few complications arose (as they inevitably do!), Patti worked with us and our lawyer to resolve them quickly. Patti is energetic, responsive, and knowledgeable about the community, the psychology of buyers and sellers, the marketplace, and the process. She was consistently available and supportive throughout the stressful weeks between putting up the “For Sale” sign and closing on the deal. We could not have it without her!” - Joyce & Tim Greening

“Patti Sprafka Wagner is simply the best Realtor out there. She truly cares about her clients and wants the best for them-

-she is not just looking to make a sale. She is a strong advocate for her clients in the process of buying a house and goes the extra mile in getting everything done. She knows Oak Park and River Forest like the back of her hand and has a tremendous amount of experience in the realty business. I trust her implicitly as an adviser. I wouldn’t have had the courage to buy my first home without her!” -Jenna Mahay

“We were first-time buyers and completely new (and nervous!) about the whole process. But Patti made everything extremely

easy and was an absolute pleasure to work with. She really looked out for our best interest and was knowledgeable about the area where we were buying.

Another huge plus is she’s extremely honest, this is her most standout quality. She’ll be the first to tell you what’s wrong with a property, and she doesn’t gloss over potential problem areas with a home. She’ll tell you up-front about the pros and cons of any property. She even told us key things to ask during the inspection! She quickly built a solid level of trust with us, and we definitely felt we could rely on her for her honest opinion. Patti was very responsive to our calls (which were many!) She was

respectful, patient, and didn’t pressure us to make any hasty decisions. You could tell she values her clients tremendously, and she takes great care to build a solid relationship. We will definitely be using Patti again in the future, and highly recommend her to anyone looking to buy/sell!” - Jillian & Dan Zarlenga

Call Patti today and begin your great real estate experience!

Selling your home has never been more complicated. Today home-buyers can sit at their computers and take virtual tours of thousands of properties. If you

are a seller, your challenge is getting your home noticed amid the vast clutter of the internet. What will attract buyers to your home? How will they come to see your house as a place that they want to live? That is where an experienced Realtor comes in.

Patti Sprafka Wagner is an Accredited Staging professional with over 20 years experience in selling real estate. Patti’s understanding of what today’s home buyer is looking for, helps her to advise her home seller-clients on how to prepare their property to maximize value and impact, “The most important part of the selling process happens before the house goes on the market,” Patti says, “Home sellers often underestimate what they have to do to prepare their property for sale. Staging the property can often be the difference between selling in 3 days or 3 months.”

To stay on top of the market, Patti regularly pursues professional development and continually studies market conditions. In addition to her Staging Designation, she

is also a Certifi ed Luxury Home Marketing Specialist. Larger, higher priced homes attract a unique home buyer. “The more expensive the home, the smaller the pool of potential buyers,” Patti says, “I work hard to make sure

that the luxury homes I represent get the broadest exposure to the most qualifi ed buyers.”

Patti Sprafka Wagner offers her clients a full-service approach. She will help you get your house ready for viewing and then market it in the places that will attract

the best possible buyers. From negotiating the contract to navigating the thorny maze of home inspections and quirky village regulations, Patti always strives to make the process, not only smooth for her clients, but pleasant. “Buying or selling a home is an exciting time,” she says, ”my job is making sure my clients can enjoy the process and be happy with the outcome.”

A life-long Oak Parker, Karen Baldwin is passionate about the Oak Park area. So passionate, in fact, that she,

her mother and her siblings all live within a block of where they grew up. Karen, now in her third Oak Park home, fully understands the challenges of moving. While it can be very emotional and stressful, it is also a time full of hope and excitement. There’s nothing quite like fi nally fi nding the right fi t and calling it your own. “I completely empathize with the experience,” she says, “whether helping you buy a new place or sell a cherished home, my job is to make each move easier and positive.”

With a Communications background and past experience as a highly regarded editor for over 25 years, Karen brings great attention to detail, adherence to deadlines and the juggling skills to get work accomplished in a timely manner. She is especially good at seeing “beyond” the decorating and fi nding the potential in a space. Since Karen has personally experienced renovation, she can help future homeowners envision the rich possibilities that remodeling can bring. “I

am excited,” she says, “to fi nally be doing something professionally that I have done for my friends for quite some time.”

Karen has volunteered over the years on various Village of Oak Park committees, preschool board, and grade school committees. She continues to be involved with the OPRF High School Alumni Association and Huskie Booster Club. She knows Oak Park inside and out, and cannot wait to share her love for the area, as well as the surrounding suburbs with you. “I look forward to being a partner,” she says, “and working with people to help them realize the dream of living in this wonderful neighborhood.”

Navigating the exciting emotional experience of home ownership

Vicki May loves property! For years she would pass by houses, apart-ment buildings and storefronts, and

think of ways to upgrade properties for appearance and function. It seemed only natural then that she would go into the real estate investment business. Twelve years and three apartment buildings later, Vicki joined Beyond Properties Realty as a prop-erty manager.

Since she already had her own money invested in residential property, Vicki ap-proaches property management with a deep understanding of the demands required to properly manage repairs, maintenance and remodeling projects. Her own experience has helped her connect with her clients and understand their needs for effective and effi cient property management. “My own investments,” she maintains, “have taught me the art of setting rents, managing costs, and getting higher yields. I understand the challenges of dealing with tenants. If I can help a property owner be more profi table, that’s a good day’s work.”

Vicki reports that right now the rental market is strong. People have lost their jobs and many have lost their homes. That leaves more people renting and more homes available to rent. As the economy improves more families may choose to purchase instead of renting. Yet, Vicki does

not see home-owner-ship levels returning to where they were in the early 2000’s. “Over and over, former homeowners tell me that they are through with owner-ship,” she says, “I be-lieve the market will stabilize at a more appropriate mix of buyers and renters.”

Vicki May really feels that she has found a home as a property manager at Beyond Properties. “My goal is to continue build-ing my property management clientele,” she says, “I don’t ever want to stop making properties better and fi lling them with great tenants!”

If you’re thinking about going into resi-dential investment, are looking for manage-ment of a property you currently own, or just need to get an apartment or home rented, contact Vicki at 708-714-0686 or [email protected].

In real estate fi nding the best out-come for your client often begins by seeing hidden potential. Cynthia Howe

Gajewski is a Realtor whose experience in home renovation and restoration makes her a valuable resource to homeowners and buyers. Also an accomplished photog-rapher, Cynthia is a woman with vision who loves to fi nd the opportunities in homes that others may have missed.

Cynthia traces her interest in real estate back to her childhood when she was fasci-nated by the grandeur of her grandparent’s Italianate Victorian farmhouse. “I admire the character and charm of older homes,” she says, “especially the variety of homes in our Oak Park and River Forest neighbor-hoods.” Cynthia particularly enjoys seeing older spaces reinvented to fi t the needs of modern living.

Matchmaking buyers with the right prop-erty is a challenge that Cynthia relishes. “It is so satisfying to see that chemistry happen,” she says, “I tell my buyers that buying a home is an emotional experience with practical considerations. A house can have everything on your wish list, but if you don’t get that ‘yes’ feeling, then the list doesn’t matter. You can’t make yourself fall in love.”

Twenty years as a professional photogra-pher gives Cynthia the added edge in pre-

senting and market-ing seller’s homes in today’s market. She is always ready to help sell-ers prepare, stage, and showcase their property to bring in the most buyers. “I absolutely love,” she says, “working with sellers who are motivated to get top dollar for their properties.” When sellers are willing to put in the extra bit of effort it can yield big returns. Cynthia will create for them a targeted room by room action plan that will show off the home’s fullest potential, with the goal of bringing in the highest offers.

Cynthia stresses that her personal experi-ence with home ownership and renovation are among the most important assets that she brings to her clients. “I’ve been down that renovation road a few times,” she says, “I know my market, and I know what improvements and upgrades really matter.”

Joelle Venzera’s love of real estate began when she was still in high school, working part-time for a local

real estate offi ce on weekends and in the summer. After leaving for college and graduating with a Degree in Marketing, her career evolved into creating specialized computer programs for companies. Then she started her family and her focus changed again to raising her three children.

All the while, Joelle never stopped loving real estate. She continued visiting open houses and watching the market. It was in the spring of 2013, that her perfect opportunity came along and she took the position of offi ce manager at Beyond Properties Realty. Suddenly she was back in the thick of it, and she remembered how much she loved the energy and excitement of buying and selling real estate. It wasn’t long before she decided to get her Illinois Real Estate License and become a Broker.

Joelle is very excited to join the Erica Cuneen Team at Beyond Properties, where her primary responsibility will be assisting buyers in fi nding homes. Working with Erica, Joelle is confi dent that their team

will have the perfect blend of experience and enthusiasm. Their clients will know that with the Erica Cuneen Team, they will have the advantage of multiple perspectives and the security of knowing that they are always covered.

Whether it’s a forever home or a house to “fi x and fl ip,” Joelle is there to help her buyers examine all the possibilities and fi nd that “perfect fi t.” Joelle can be reached at Beyond Properties Realty, 109 N. Marion St., Oak Park, 708.297.1879.

If you were to look down at your financial life from 5,000 feet, what would you see? Spread out before you

would be everything in your life with a dollar sign in front of it—all that you own, all that you owe, all of your income and your savings, everything you’ve spent, and everything you intend to spend in the future. What would it look like? Would it be an orderly landscape, carefully planned and organized? Would your goals be clearly visible with well defined pathways leading to them? Or would it be something more haphazard, like a garden without a gardener, assembled in fits and starts with some areas in good shape and others in neglect?

For Chris Everett, owner of Everett Wealth Solutions, taking her clients on the 5,000 foot trip above their life is the first step in a four step process of helping them take control of their personal finances. “For some people, it’s a scary trip that they’ve never been on before,” says Chris, “I tell them to take a deep breath, slow down, and together we will look at the complete picture.” Chris points out that careful listening and close examination of the data can often lead to hidden opportunities in the form of unnecessary expenses. Such expenses can add up and be major obstacles in the way of achieving important life goals, such as retirement and college.

The second step in Everett’s process is helping clients understand their financial choices. “No choice is perfect,” Chris says, “You need to know what all your options are and understand how each solution functions. What the benefits are as well as the risks. No one should ever buy a financial product that they don’t thoroughly understand.”

The third step is making the plan. “This is the part where we really have to work together,” Chris asserts, “We spend a lot of

time with our families to help them make good financial choices. Ultimately these are their choices and they have to feel comfortable with them.” Chris stresses that this is not a process that can be rushed. It requires careful deliberation and always with an eye to the client’s financial goals.

For some people the process can end at step three. They can pay a fee and receive their financial plan which they can then implement on their own. Alternatively they can move on to step four and let Everett Wealth Solutions implement the plan for them. Personal wealth solutions can be complicated and for many people, life and family often distract their attention away from the regular management of their financial plan. The implementation team at Everett Wealth Solutions can stay on top of your plan and keep you aware of its progress.

dr. fabricius is one of only 23 board-certified specialists in crowns, implants, and dentures in illinois

What’s a prosthodontist? It’s a ques-tion that Dr. Anne Fabricius, owner of Oak Park Prosthodontics, often

gets. With her characteristic smile, she will enthusiastically explain that a prosthodon-tist is a dentist with three additional years of training in restorative dentistry. They are experts in cosmetics, crowns, implants, bridges, dentures, and the management of complex dental problems. Currently there are only four women in Illinois that are board-certifi ed in prosthodontics. Dr. Anne Fabricius is one of them, and the only one in private practice.

A graduate of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Fabricius established Oak Park Prosthodontics in 2013. She offers general dentistry services, such as cleanings; as well as specialty services in the repair and replacement of teeth. In addition to her practice, she also teaches the complete denture course at University of Illinios at Chicago.

Why Prosthodontics? “I love problem solving,” Fabricius says, “I enjoy providing patients with unique solutions to solve a variety of dental problems.” Fabricius also enjoys the challenge and artistry of restoring teeth back to natural beauty. In this sense, prosthodontics is a fi eld that combines medicine, science, and artistry.

Fabricius credits major advances in tech-nology, including new dental materials and computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) with greatly improving patient care. While incorporating these advances in to her practice, she is particularly enthused about Computer Guided Dental Implant Surgery.

A dental implant is a titanium post that replaces the root of a tooth that has been lost. A tooth, multiple teeth, or dentures can be attached to a dental implant. A three-dimensional model of a patient is generated by computer and used to plan the locations of dental implants within the jawbone. A template is custom made for the patient and used during surgery to guide the dental implants into the exact locations that were planned on the digital model.

Implant surgery using a custom template can often be completed in less than an hour, and is most often performed with just local anesthetic. Most patients experi-ence little or no discomfort after implant surgery.

There are signifi cant benefi ts of computer guided surgery:

• Reduced surgical risk. Because the implants have been planned digitally, the risk of damage to nerves and other teeth

is greatly reduced.

• Improved long-term outcomes. When implants are placed in the ideal loca-tion, the teeth that are attached to the implants will last longer.

• Fewer surgical procedures. Because dental implants can be guided into tight spaces, the need for bone grafting and other surgical procedures is often eliminated.

• Reduced surgical time. Because the implants have been planned digitally, the surgical time is greatly reduced. Complex

surgeries can be performed in under an hour.

• Less pain. Because the surgery is per-formed faster, there is less post-operative discomfort and pain. If you are considering getting implants or

any type of cosmetic dentistry, or you are just looking for a new dentist for routine care, call Dr. Anne Fabricius. Her offi ce, Oak Park Prosthodontics, is located at 185 N. Marion Street in Downtown Oak Park. Visit the website at OakParkImplants.com or call 708-386-0177.

Rachel Gregersen’s background in design, her more than one decade of successful business leadership in

interior fashions, and her entrepreneurial spirit and drive make it only a matter of time before her company, Beyond Shades, is a well-known name for custom window coverings in Chicago. As a lover of archi-tecture and a former homeowner in Oak Park, "It is always exciting to have clients in this area.", says Rachel Gregersen.

Purchasing custom window coverings can be quite daunting. They can be among the larger-ticket items that come with a new home, an addition or decorating, updating, remodeling, or safety proofi ng an existing home. Beyond Shades is the team that can help you at your own pace and in your own space, whether it is one window, one room, one home, or one business. Our goal is to be where you are and where you need us to be to give you the design op-tions, price points, and functional solutions to your window covering needs.

Beyond Shades understands and respects the need of today’s homeowner when it comes to their window covering purchases. We understand that you have worked hard for and appreciate your home. You love your home and want to choose the

right product for it. While we ultimately offer shades, blinds, shutters, etc., we understand that the decision is completely beyond shades. It is about your lifestyle, how you live, how the light comes into your home, and what is aesthetically pleasing in your dwelling.

You are well aware, as are we, that in today’s competitive atmosphere, you have many choices for window coverings. From the fi rst interaction until installation is complete, we work hard to make sure that you are happy with your decision to partner with us on a product that you are going to have for some time.

One of the company values that drives our success is that every customer and every project is a VIP. We are as passion-ate and committed to working with a client who needs one shade for a kitchen window as we are for a client doing an entire house of window coverings with us.

Lori Hannigan remembers the time she built her fi rst chimney after being hired by Edward Cross & Son, Inc. in

Oak Park. Mr. Cross put her in his garage on a rainy day, mixed mortar and laid out a pattern for a chimney. He started the structure, handed the trowel and bucket of mortar to Lori, said it was all hers and left. She wanted to insure she did the best work possible and therefore decided to start the structure over. When Mr. Cross returned two hours later, he was impressed to fi nd a chimney about eight courses tall that was both exactly plumb, or aligned, and level.

Edward Cross & Son, Inc. has been in business since 1937. After years of dedicated, quality work, Lori became the owner in 1987. She continues to strive for perfection in all her projects and does not expect her staff to complete any task she herself cannot do. Whether it is setting up a forty foot ladder or pulling up a heavy bucket of mortar to the roof of a house, Lori shows her employees she is not just the boss, but a determined laborer and tuckpointer. Consequently, she is proud to have made a name for herself in a male dominated industry.

Lori specializes in chimney rebuilding and masonry repairs. With her attention

to detail, Lori and her team use their skills as artists to rebuild and repair old structures to their former glory. She has even worked on many Frank Lloyd Wright homes. The project with the biggest challenge, but that resulted in the biggest success, was rebuilding the large chimney on the Adams Home at 710 Augusta in Oak Park. It involved a large scaffolding system, cleaning all the bricks, and restoring the chimney to the exact same design in order to satisfy the Frank Lloyd Wright Historical Board.

Lori helps clients understand the standards of the industry so they know what to expect from contractors in the future. She even teaches her customers about what caused the problems that are being fi xed. These qualities truly make Edward Cross & Sons, Inc. a unique business.

Lydia I. Villanueva-Soto, president and owner of Tan Travel, has being in the travel industry for over twenty years.

She has a passion for her clients that the internet or a computer cannot provide. She works with her clients’ needs, and is commit-ted to providing lasting memories. Lydia works to build relationships with her customers, recognizing “they are the bread and butter of my business, and what drives me to work hard every day.”

The travel industry was at its peak before 9/11 and nowadays travel agencies are few and far between. With the rise of online booking engines, some folks have decided to go that route. But lately she’s noticed more and more people are coming back into the agency and asking for her personal opinion. The internet is great for research, but Lydia and her customers know that nothing beats face-to-face commu-nication. Especially when planning something as important as your destination wedding or a dream vacation, you cannot always trust what a computer website might say or not say.

“Owning a small business has had its ups and downs but I am grateful to our repeat clients and all of their referrals, Tan Travel is here be-cause of that. Our love for the travel industry and the people we have met and continue to serve makes our desire to continue in this once dying industry even greater.”

Lydia has also recently expanded her family by adopting a beauti-ful baby girl named Isabella Grace. One of the interest-ing things about shopping local and keeping your busi-ness close to home is that you are also able to directly help families, such as Lydia’s. “My business helps me put food on the table for my family. By keeping your business local, you are keeping my small business and my family alive.”

When asked what the favorite part of her job is, Lydia says that number one has to be interacting with her clients—both old and new. She enjoys getting to know people and learn-ing about them as individuals. Known to her clients as the “Travel Therapist” she craves conversation and the feeling she gets when clients come back from a dream vacation with thanks and appreciation. Lydia I.
