The Aftermath

Good steps

�After Mubarak stepped down the army took over, they dissolved the two

houses, suspended the constitution, formed a committee to amend the

constitution

�They announced that they are there for 6 months until a democratic and

transparent elections of the two houses and the president occur

�They retained the last cabinet of Mubarak to run day to day activities.

�They began discussion with the representatives of the revolutionarygroup

�They asked the General Prosecutor to prosecute the minister s and other

business people and public figures who are incriminated with the old

regime in corruption

Worrisome steps�The new committee to review and amend constitution is not what the

youth asked for and does not include women

�There is now a witch hunt and a sense of vindictiveness that does not

reflect the air of the revolutionaries

�Too many disruptions by rif rat, angry mobs, second wave of vandalism

�Police lost credibility and there is no police now in the country



What is now and what about

the future ?Fir st revolutionaries and activists:

� The young revolutionaries are not political

parties, not CSOs and not human right

groups

� They are the weighting generation

� They are now organizing themselves and

negotiating with the army on future action� They are using the same media tools and

channels to create the groups around their

different plans/programs

� In Egypt the people (not

civil society) are now

using the social media to

organize and promote

the leader s they want in

the coming government

� There is a group for Amr

Moussa as next

President ± For WaelGhoneim ± and for

other s in other positions.

working on improving

and keeping the Green

spirit and they have

organized cleaning of TS

and restoring burned

Egypt to be secular and

remove article 2 from

the future ?Second the Army and current government:

� The council of armed forces took over in

order to prepare the country for a civilian

regime

� This is a transitional period, with the same

cabinet created before Mubarak left

� They met all the demands of therevolutionaries: dissolved both houses,

suspended the constitution, formed a new

high committee to amend the constitution




the future: Ashoka fellows� A meeting in the Ashoka office with a group of Fellows

was held on the 13th February

� We are documenting by video and other means their

experiences and how they contributed to therevolutionaries

� We are working with them to create on our Facebook a

list of their expertise and know how that they are

offering to the revolutionaries

� ADEW began a competition for a design by youth for a

memorial monument in the square

� ADEW and myself are still monitoring the hospitals

and have cases of success (Nasser hospital ±

demerdash hospital)




the future : The womenquestion

� With women¶s CSOs , ADEW and a number of female

Ashoka fellows: we are campaigning to includewomen in the committee for drafting the constitution

� We are writing about women's contribution to the

revolution and lobbying for their inclusion (articles,

letter s

to the high council of armed forces, interview

s on the different medias and groups on Facebook and

the other new social media)



Specific Recommendations for the

future leaders by women groups� 30-50% of your

member ship and your

leader ship positions

should be for women� Ensure that your

decisions are based on a

real assessment of the

situation of all citizens in

this country ; whether women, or Christians

� That Egypt will be built

by both women and men.



Recommendations

radio and television

should interview

women as much as

men, put women inyour pictures,

interviews,

programs, talk

shows and inwhatever you do to

confirm that women

were beside men in

every step
