Woman’s Club of arroyo Grande fun, friends and Community Service
October 12th Luncheon
Bettie Gates and Joan Goodall
have a spooky surprise for our October
luncheon. Members are encouraged to
“dress-up” in Halloween attire. The
catered meal will be $12, payable to
Bettie Gates by Monday, October 5th.
Our program will be Madeline’s Apparel.
We will see the latest fashions and learn
how to accessorize in preparation for the upcoming holi-
day season.
mESSAGE FROM OUR PRESiDENT
Our first meeting got off the ground very positively and it was so good to see so many
of you start our year with great enthusiasm. A big thank you goes out to Laura
Vopatek, Cindy Moreno and Judi Boudreau for leading the Board to coordinate our
September meeting. Our "Diamond Jubilee" is really something to celebrate! We wel-
comed three new members who attended our meeting and joined this great organiza-
tion. The Central Coast Follies put on a terrific show for us...thanks to Suzy Anderson for setting up
the great program. Our focus is on the upcoming Harvest Festival, and many thanks go to Toni Lo-
ayza, our parade coordinator for exciting our members into taking part in the festivities. Also, a spe-
cial thanks to Carol Browne for setting up our transportation in the parade by getting SCAT to do-
nate their trolley for our use in the parade!
I'm really looking forward to a great year and hope to see even more of our members attend our next
meeting on October 12th. Meantime, we'll be getting ready for our first fundraiser, the Artisans'
Faire, on November 3rd. Let's all get involved and make this a great year! - Mary

The Woman’s Club of Arroyo
Grande received a bequest of
approximately $37,ooo from the estate of
Janet and Clifford Johnson this past sum-
mer. Janet had relocated to the Central
Coast from Southern California and was an
active member of the Woman’s Club, ac-
cording to friend, Bonnie Newman, who so-
cialized with Janet and says Janet especial-
ly loved being a part of the Gardening
Group. A $20,000 certificate of deposit
was established that will return approxi-
mately $400 per year in interest to the club.
It was decided at the September Board
meeting that this will be used to establish
the Clifford and Janet Johnson Memorial
Scholarship —which will be a $250“sustain-
ing” scholarship to help students continue
their studies.
Artisans’ faire by Debbie Audet & Sherry Headington
Our first fundraiser- the Arti-sans' Faire-will be held on Saturday, November 3rd from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. Many of the artisans who exhibited last February are returning and will be selling gifts in time for the hol-idays. We have recruited several ex-citing new vendors thanks to Caroline Blewitt, Rose Scalzo, Sherry Heading-ton and Gretchen Weckstein. Our own Mary Carson, Snooks Powers, Carol Browne and Toni Loayza will join the vendors. The Artisans’ Faire will once again feature a cafe with home-made entrees plus drinks and des-serts. Plan to stay for a delicious meal after you shop. Other exhibi-tors will feature gourmet food items, outdoor art, hand sewn and knitted items, and fine art (one artist will take commissions for paintings of your pets). The day will culminate with a 50/50 drawing, promising up to $1000 for the lucky winner. Tickets are $5 apiece or 5 for $20. For those of you who did not purchase tickets at the September Celebration, tickets will be available at the luncheon on October 12th.. This is our biggest fundraiser and we need your help, particularly monetary donations to purchase soup and sandwich supplies. To receive 50/50 tickets by mail or donate to our cafe, contact Debbie Audet at 550-8910)or Sherry Heading-ton at 489-0843.To help in the Café, call Carol Browne at 473-9499.Thanks to all of you have supported this event already. We’ll see you there!

OUT AND ABOUT
At the September WCAG meeting,
we were treated to entertainment
by the wonderful ladies the Central
Coast Follies. These ladies and many more
will be performing at the Clark Center on Oc-
tober 6th,7th,11th, 12th,13th, and14th. Your
call to 489-9444 will give you the opportunity
to purchase a
ticket to see the
Follies and to
benefit Parkin-
son’s research.
Sue Diggles passed away on August 2,
2012 at her home in Arroyo Grande
at the age of 93. Sue will be remembered as an
inspiration to all with a zest for life and great
sense of humor. Mother, friend, social worker,
teacher. Her delightful presence will be missed.
FIRST MEETING OF THE YEAR ! The September 75th anniversary Cele-
bration Tea was a great success. Board Members provided the “goodies”
and the diamond anniversary theme included diamond rings on the tables
and placemats with newspaper articles from the beginning days of the Ar-
royo Grande Woman’s Club to the present. Lindy Loomis noted that the
articles included mention of two of her relatives! At the door, members
got “bubbles” with a number which indicated an as-
signed table, so in addition to catching up with old
friends after our summer break, many of the members
had a chance to make new contacts. Toni Loayza par-
ticularly enjoyed blowing the bubbles! Members were
also treated to new
name badges, cour-
tesy of Webmaster
Dana Pojas and hand-crafted lanyards
to hold them. We all had a great time; I
know I left with a big smile on my face
and plans for a busy year.—Editor
