I trust everyone had a fantastic break and have returned to school refreshed for a great term. I know all of the teaching and support staff at our campus have returned energised and ready to continue our teaching programs. Throughout last week, all of our students demonstrated a strong work ethic and have already produced some fantastic pieces of work. Keep up the great work! FLEXIBUZZ / FLEXISCHOOLS As was shared through our school Facebook site last week, there have been some significant changes made to Flexibuzz (Flexischools) over the school holiday period that our school was not aware of and do not endorse. Some of these changes included changing of name, ads being sent asking for payments, options of topping upaccounts and suggestions of payments for educational items. As mentioned, these changes are not endorsed by the school and we apologise for any inconvenience. To save unnecessary angst, frustration and confusion, as of last Wednesday our school WILL NOT be using this communication tool. We understand that a number of families use this tool for student absences. Until we find another product, we will be asking parents/carers to do the following; Call the campus and follow the phone prompts to report a child absence Check the email you have provided to the school regularly, as in the short term we will be using this feature to send logistical updates for example digital newsletter, permission forms etc If you are one of the many families who have downloaded the app, please delete it and keep your eye out in future newsletters for information about a new and simpler method of communication. We again apologise for any confusion and frustration this has caused. NEW BEFORE SCHOOL ROUTINE FOR STUDENTS To ensure our students have a smooth transition to learning from 9.00am, we are trialing a structured routine at the beginning of the school day. From Monday, prior to 8.50am, students will be asked to play outside in the playground area when they arrive at school. A bell will be rung at 8.50am, signaling the beginning of supervision. At this point, the students will enter and remain in their classrooms, completing structured activities under teacher supervision. Staff will still be situated at the front gate, meeting students as they get dropped off. In the case of inclement weather, students will be asked to stay inside the building. SAFETY AT DROP OFF At drop-off time, a number of staff have noticed students getting out of cars and walking around the front of their vehicles. At assembly, we spoke to the students about some basic passenger safety tips, including exiting cars and walking around the back of vehicles. If all families were able to have a similar discussion at home to reinforce the message, it would be much appreciated. Safety is always paramount around roads, driveways and carparks. Some great prompting questions include:

Where is the safest place to cross this road?

What do we need to do before we cross the road together?

Why do we hold hands to cross the road together?

When is it safe to cross the road?

What do we look for when crossing the road?

What sounds are we listening for when we cross the road? ST JOHNS FIRST AID IN SCHOOLS I am excited to share with you our students are going to be involved in some video conferencing first aid activities conducted by St John’s Ambulance Service. This incursion is free and delivers a powerful message about the importance of first aid. Topics covered include:

FOUNDATION / YEAR 1 Through a storybook, the children will see how Johnny Bear identifies an emergency, puts the Danger, Response and Send for help strategy into action and helps call 000 in an informative session. Students will learn the first aid chant that will help them remember what to do in an emergency. Includes a fun quiz on first aid to get students up and involved.

YEAR 2 / YEAR 3 / YEAR 4 Students learn how to spot DANGER in an emergency, RESPOND accordingly and SEND for help. They will be guided on what number to call and act out a scenario to get them comfortable calling 000 in real life. Students will play a fun and interactive game as teams compete in the first aid quiz. By the end of the program, students will leave with essential skills and knowledge which they can call upon in an emergency situation.

YEAR 5 / YEAR 6 Reiterates the learning of standard modules 1 & 2, however incorporates a practical CPR component, guiding students through how to perform CPR and when it is required in a Frist Aid situation. Students will also participate in group problem-solving scenarios based on a variety of first aid situations allowing them to apply their knowledge. UNWELL STUDENTS Thank you to all families for the many calls and messages we have received in relation to students being unwell. If you are unsure of whether your children should attend given the current climate, please don't hesitate to call me at school.

VIRTUAL ASSEMBLIES- LIVE This term, our campus student leaders will be running live assemblies through WebEx. These assemblies will be held every second Monday at 3.00pm. A reminder will be sent to parents with details for tuning in via WebEx. Although we are frustrated we are unable to have our regular parent / community involvement at our assembles, we are trying our best to keep our community engaged with students at the campus. This term our assemblies will be held on 3th August, 17th August, 31st August and

14th September.

FOOD WARMERS I am pleased to advise that the food warmer will be once again available each TUESDAY. Food to be heated in the

food warmer must be wrapped in foil and have all details clearly marked in black texta. Health regulations state that

ALL food must be clearly labelled, to avoid potential problems with food allergies. Please note outside of this day, staff

are not permitted to heat up student lunches in the microwave.

SHOP LUNCHES I am please to advise that students once again have the option of ordering shop lunches through Mingos Cafe each THURSDAY. I have attached the price list to today’s newsletter. These will begin on Thursday 23rd July 2020

BREAKFAST CLUB Breakfast Club will not be able to run in its traditional form this term. As an alternative, our campus staff are going to be running some class breakfasts (one per class per term) where students can remain in their own classrooms and enjoy a breakfast as a class. I will share information about this program when it is confirmed. We still have a large amount of Breakfast Club food that we distribute to families via the students. This will continue as usual throughout the term.
