Observations:All Sources

All measure CO2 (total column, vertical profile, surface in situ)

Each have own data centre(s) Each have own quality assurance

programmes Missing a total column network. Currently not well coordinated with

each other

What is GAW?

WMO/GAW was established 1989 by merging GO3OS and

BAPMoN.

GAW focuses on global networks for GHGs, ozone, UV,

aerosols, selected reactive gases, and precipitation chemistry.

GAW is a partnership involving contributors from 80 countries.

GAW is coordinated by the Environment Division of

WMO/AREP.

Currently GAW coordinates activities and data from 23 global

stations, 637 regional stations, and 19 contributing and

associate stations

The Role Of The World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

As the lead agency designated by IGOS to implement IGACO, WMO shall use its unique international experience, programmes and partnerships to build a generally accepted global plan and to promote implementation through bottom-up research efforts at the national and regional level.

IGACO builds on GAW, other WMO programmes and partnerships. It bridges surface-based, aircraft and satellite observations to the weather forecast and modelling research community.
