Message from The Editorial Board
I am pleased to note that the first issue of University’s monthly newsletter titled Tiresia is being released in Jan 2014 by the Stu-dent Activity Centre of the University.
This issue of the newsletter is special on account of being the first newsletter of the University and shall include the updates and information regarding the initiatives taken for positive change in the transformation of erstwhile M.M.M. Engineering College into M.M.M. University of Technology as the first residential tech-nological University of Uttar Pradesh. Since the University is re-constitution of M.M.M. Engineering College so it has inherited a legacy of Malaviyans since 1962. I understand that this emergence of the University would have not been possible without the good-will, remarkable professional service to the society, accomplish-ments, support and brand created by the past students, teachers and staff members apart from various other reasons.
“The warmth of the sunlight reassures new hopes and the cool breeze starts spreading the news of joy”
With the dawn of new year we all are filled with new hopes. We witnessed the starting of a new era as our college was de-clared as the technological university. Moving ahead in this even semester, societies are ready with a sphere of events.
The Editorial Board too is bracing itself for its upcoming
events i.e. Spell Czar and Udgaar. Ahead in this month we have our national festival Republic Day, submerging everyone in the feeling of patriotism and nationalism. Plethora of activities in this even semester make it enthralling and exciting. With this The Editorial Board wishes everyone Happy Republic Day and a great year ahead.

I am confident that such monthly newsletters will act as a reporter for the tale of University activities and achievements on academic fronts and other endeavours in providing quality tech-nical education & enhancing the employability and placement activities of the students, accom-plishments of the teachers and staff members on monthly basis. Such newsletters should not only be informative in nature but also be persuasive in focusing on displaying the multifarious activities of curricular and extra-curricular nature, the awards and achievements of the students, teachers and staff, the training services and the career being offered to the students and the alumni interac-tion.
I extend my best wishes to all the members of The Editorial Board and believe that this
news letter shall act as potential communication link amongst all stakeholders inside and outside the University for dissemination of information about good practices and seeking feedback for im-proving the academic environment of the University for achieving the excellence in technical edu-cation.
FROM CHIEF EDITOR’S PEN
I feel extremely delighted to share with the readers on release of the first issue of monthly news letter of January 2014, at our university portal in the shade of a young ,experienced, dynamic, visionary and scholarly vice-chancellor Prof.Onkar Singh. Of course, we have been bringing out the same under the aegis of erstwhile M.M.M.Engineering, College ,Gorakhpur dating back to April 2010, yet the speciality of the present issue is that it, besides providing the readers with the details of information and activities of in and around the university, speaks a volume about the destiny of the university. The student members of the Editorial Board deserve appreciation in carrying on “the old order changeth yielding place to new” with doubly increased energy and enthusiasm.

Q1. How do you feel on been given such a huge responsibility on your shoulders? It’s a great responsibility to be the Vice Chancellor of a new University and I feel really happy about it. There are many challenges to overcome. Right from changing the mind-set of all officials to bringing about infrastructural changes, everything needs to be done. Q2.What is the major difference between a college and a university? A college has a very small domain whereas a university knows no bounds. It’s a technical universi-ty now and whatever comes in the sphere of a technical university, has to be incorporated well within the system. Q3. How will the students be selected in the coming sessions, through UPTU or through any oth-er examination? As of now ,there are no changes in the admission procedure. In my view, it hardly makes any difference. Students selected through UPTU are equally capable. Its a state funded University and we will focus on sharing the resources with students of the state only. Q4. What challenges, do you think, are still to be overcome? The main challenge is changing the mind-set of all the people concerned. They were working like a college but now they have to feel they are a part of the university and come forward. Transfor-mation has to come in all facets, be it academic front or the legislation. The whole system needs to be organized properly.
Tête-à-tête
Hon’ble V.C. Prof. Onkar Singh
His name needs no introduction. His reputation precedes him. In his illustrious career of four-
teen years, his feats as a scholar, an academician and as an administrator are awe-inspiring.
The task of nurturing a university in its cradle bestowed upon his able shoulders, all eyes are
beset in his direction. The Editorial Board had a chance to interview him and were left hum-
bled by his eloquence, his gentle demeanour and his vision. Here is an excerpt of what he had
to say:
If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think
“
”
Q5. Do you see the need of any infrastructural changes? When it was a college, the infrastructure was sufficient but keeping a uni-versity in mind, there are a lot many infrastructural requirements. We need more buildings, better laboratories, better equipments and more engaging classrooms. Q6. What will be your strategy to implement the changes? I have a three point agenda. First and foremost is the Training and Place-ment, second on the list is the much needed Infrastructural changes and then is the routine Teaching and Learning process. We will be recruiting more faculty and make every possible endeavour to bring about the changes. Q7. Is there any drawback of the college being transformed into a Uni-versity, if any, what is it? Yes, there is a big drawback and it is the old mindset of everyone con-nected with MMMUT. If a college collapses, no one pays attention but the collapse of a university is catastrophic. We all need to pay attention to the betterment of the University. Q8.Does the location of the college, Gorakhpur, affect the college activi-ties or the placement scenario in any way? No. This a completely bogus statement. There are many colleges which are not located in any metropolitans like BITS Pilani and IIT Kharagpur, if they can perform well, why can't we. I truly believe that if my students perform well in the industry, the companies will definitely hire them. Q9. What message would you like to impart to the students? I request everyone to frame their mind that we are a university now. I want all the students to come forward, suggest the necessary amend-ments and keep all officials on toes. Shine through all odds and show you are the best.

Life is a privilege…
Life is a beautiful experience full of opportunities, risks, happiness,
sorrows and disappointments. Happiness –sorrow, victory-defeat, day
-night are all the two sides of the same coin. No doubt, life poses a
challenge at every step. Without adversities and hardships, life would
always seem to be a bed of roses, although thorns play an important
role in our life.
Most people spend most of their time in making plans for their future.
They forget that tomorrow is mysterious. The present is a gift of God
and one should enjoy each and every moment of life with full zeal and
enthusiasm. Not only enjoyment, one should always be ready to face
the challenges of life with equanimity. This enhances the courage, pa-
tience, perseverance and character of a human being.
Life is precious and if one wish to live it for once, that is also enough
as life provides one with ample of opportunities to experience every
notion of life in one’s life time. On contrary, most people are busy se-
curing their future. Suppose an employee of 26, working in Accenture
is earning a huge-some package but is doing a monotonous sort of
job. He believes in saving money for future security and spends mon-
ey only on day-to-day necessities. Unfortunately, he meets with an
accident and is no more in this world. So now, what is the use of the
money, which he was saving? Who will benefit from that saving? This
is really disappointing that no one understands the importance of pre-
sent. Everyone is focussed on future.
“In the end, it’s not going to matter how many breaths you took, but
how many moments took your breath away.”
So, the most important thing is to enjoy life to the fullest. To live is
the rarest thing in the world, most people exist and that is all.. . But
one should not let one’s enjoyment in the hands of future. Today, the
present is in our hands and one should experience every moment of
life as it is valuable.
