2016 WINTER/SPRING SESSIONSPRE-K PROGRAMS

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNING Preschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in the world of learning. At the YMCA, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our program provides activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships. The Y's program encourages children to explore their creativity through multi-sen-sory experiences and creates a language-rich environment to promote and foster a love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science as well as develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills. Please contact member services at 773.721.9100 for additional information.

PRESCHOOL AQUATICSParent/Child Swim Lessons (Ages 6 months to 3 years) Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child's self-confidence in and outside of the water. Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:• Shrimp (6-8mos) Child can control their head and sit with

support from the hands.

• Kipper (9-12mos) Child can sit without hand support and stand with support from the hands.

• Inia (13-18mos) Child can stand without support and walk with or without support or aid.

• Perch (19-36mos) Child can run and jump.

• Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

WHERE CHILDREN LEARN, GROW & THRIVE At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. At this early age, play is a child’s most important form of learning and development. We provide programs and activities where children learn, explore, develop athletic skills, build a positive self-image and develop social relationships with other children. Help your child be kindergarten ready. Enroll them in a YMCA pre-k program today.

DID YOU KNOW The YMCA invented body building?

The first YMCA buildings constructed with gymnasiums opened in 1869. In 1881, Boston YMCA staffer Robert J. Roberts coined the term “body building” and developed exercise classes that anticipated today’s fitness workouts.

THE Y. SO MUCH MORE™ At the Y we are more than a gym. We are a cause dedicated to building strong children, families and communities—inside and out. This includes making our programs available to all regardless of need—because at the Y, everyone belongs. You can help us in the cause. Change a life by making a gift to the YMCA. Because membership dues and program fees support our daily operations, your gift will go directly to serving children and families in need.

The impact of your gift will be felt when:• A kindergartner starts school ready to learn because

he attended the Y’s early learning center.• Kids have a safe, nurturing environment to

go to after school and in the summer.• A parent spends quality time with their child while playing basketball.• A teen receives tutoring and mentoring to help them

succeed in school and prepare for college.• A child loses weight–and enjoys it–because at the Y, exercise is play.

Make a Gift. Change a Life. Make your gift today at donate.ymcachicago.org.
