• University Hall, the new academic building, was awarded a silver citation in the 2016 American School & University Educational Interiors Showcase, a premier competition honoring education interiors excellence. It also received the 2016 Distinguished Engineering Award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action.

• William Paterson University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series is in its 38th year of presenting compelling speakers. Prominent speakers have included President Gerald Ford, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, actor Al Pacino, feminist icon Gloria Steinem, composer Stephen Sondheim, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell.

• The William Paterson University Small Business Development Center provides assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs throughout Passaic County. In the current year, the center has helped obtain more than $14 million in financing for its more than 500 clients.

• William Paterson’s bowling team, a club sport, placed second at the 2016 national Intercollegiate Bowling Team Championships, losing to McKendree University. There are 6 club sports teams at William Paterson in addition to 13 NCAA Division III athletic teams.

• William Paterson is the sixth largest producer of college graduates in New Jersey. In 2016, the University graduated more than 2,500 students. It is the third most diverse public university in New Jersey and nearly 30 percent of students are the first in their families to attend university.

• The College of Education received more than $3 million in grants for urban education projects, including awards from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. It is one of 10 institutions across the country participating in the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE)-sponsored Networked Improvement Community to diversify the teaching workforce with a specific focus on recruiting more black and Latino males into the profession.

• William Paterson provides short-term study abroad experiences in England, Scotland, and other countries, often led by University professors. It offers courses in 7 of 14 critical-need foreign languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Persian, and Russian.

• The University is committed to sustainability, and is a charter signatory of the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment. Its solar panel installation ranks among the 10 largest university installations in the United States, supplying 15 percent of the institution’s energy needs, for a savings of $10 million over 15 years. Since 2001, the University’s electricity consumption has decreased 10 percent and natural gas consumption has decreased 50 percent.

• The University is located on a bucolic 370-acre campus in suburban Wayne, 20 miles from New York City.

• William Paterson was recently designated as a Hispanic-serving institution with over 25 percent of students claiming Hispanic heritage.

• The institution has been honored as a “Military Friendly School” by militaryfriendlyschools.com and has been included in their Guide to Military Friendly Schools each year since 2011. There are nearly 150 veterans and active service students on campus.

• The University’s economic impact throughout the state is estimated to be more than $500 million a year.

• William Paterson provides more than $1 million annually in donor-funded scholarships through the William Paterson University Foundation and the Alumni Association and another $11 million in direct institutional support. About 71 percent of all students receive some form of financial aid.

• The University offers two doctoral programs: the doctorate in clinical psychology and the doctor of nursing practice.

• William Paterson’s 410 full-time faculty are highly distinguished and diverse scholars and teachers, including 41 Fulbright scholars and recipients of numerous other awards, grants, and fellowships. Faculty created more than 550 publications and 220 artistic performances, productions, and exhibitions, and gave more than 800 lectures, presentations, and workshops in 2015-16.

• The University is the first and only public New Jersey college or university that requires new undergraduates to take a course on civic engagement. Last year, more than 2,300 students enrolled in 40 different courses in a variety of disciplines and students contributed more than 7,200 hours to community service projects.

• Approximately 50 percent of students participate in a career-related external learning experience such as internships, clinical rotation, or student teaching before they graduate.

• Undergraduate students are actively involved in research and other scholarly and creative activities with faculty on projects leading to presentations at regional, state, or national conferences or publication in scholarly journals. The University established a week-long series of campus events, Explorations 2016, to highlight the depth and quality of student and faculty research.

• William Paterson has a robust Career Development Center that provides career counseling, career coaching, job, internship, and graduate school preparation, as well as employment and mentoring connections. The Pesce Family Mentoring Institute was established to prepare students for careers by connecting successful professionals as mentors to select undergraduate students.

• The College of the Arts and Communication’s student-run radio station WPSC-FM won the 2015 “Best College Radio Station Award” from the New Jersey Broadcasters Association and won the “Best Station in the Nation” award from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in 2012 and 2013. College Radio Day, held every October with hundreds of participating institutions, was created by the College of the Arts and Communication.

• University students work with faculty in state-of-the-art HD TV studios to create programming that airs locally in Wayne. The Roundabout, a student-produced television talk show, was the recipient of a 2015 Gracie Award, presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation.

• The Cotsakos College of Business, with programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, was ranked by Princeton Review among the Best Business Schools, an annual guide to graduate business schools. Its professional sales program, supported by the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales, and financial planning program are nationally ranked as among the top programs in the country.
