At Galeta, we create award winning, handmade treats at our home in Hackney.

In 2011, our first market stall on the King’s Road sold out in just two hours. Since then, we’ve stayed true to our roots. We only use the freshest natural ingredients and only bake the treats that most excite us. It’s how we’ve become known as East London’s baking heroes*.

Some of our recipes are three hundred years old. Some are entirely new. What matters to us is that they are all handcrafted, baked fresh and utterly irresistible.

That’s the Galeta recipe.

Handmade and baked fresh each day, our pastries use only the finest Charentes-Poitou (PDO) butter and are always proved naturally – because some things are definitely worth waiting for.

Croissant A traditional croissant made with Charentes-Poitou (PDO) butter.

Almond croissant A classic croissant filled with almond crème pâtissière, topped with flaked almonds and a dusting of icing sugar.

Cinnamon bun A mixture of cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over our yeast-leavened dough. Hand-rolled, cut into individual portions and baked.

Pastel de nata

Our multi award winning Pastéis de nata are handcrafted using the original recipe smuggled from the Jerónimos monastery in Lisbon, over three hundred years ago. We bake layered pastry at 300° to form the deep colour and blooming crust that makes each tart unique.

It took twenty rounds of samples to get our mandarin and chocolate loaf just right. We even use fresh mandarins each day! All our loaf cakes are crafted with the same commitment, crammed with flavour and baked to perfection.

These market stall favourites are wonderfully simple. Fresh dough, deep fried, then glazed or sugared, filled with lashings of jam, custard or Nutella. Doughnuts are never out of style and we never get tired of making them.

CookiesOur cookies hold a special place in our hearts. Galeta loosely translates as ‘cookie’, so it’s fitting that these hand-pressed, oversized, American-style beauties were stacked high on our very first market stall.
