Once again the Marmion Angling & Aquatic Club “the MAAC” extends a warm welcome to all competitors in the prestigious Open Fishing Classic, Perth’s Premier Fishing Competition.
Country visitors will join local participants in this annual event fished out of Hillarys and Ocean Reef, with prizes worthy of their challenge.
Promoting conservation, this species competition will challenge the best to show their versatility and catch the best of 12 species.
The prizes valued in excess of forty thousand dollars “$40K” are there for the taking. All species and prizes are currently up on the MAAC website on www.maac.com.au. We wish you a safe and exciting day’s fishing as guests of the Marmion Angling & Aquatic Club.

COMPETIT ION RULES1. FIELD DAY OFFICER has complete charge of the Competition and is empowered to report any competitor whom he considers has breached the rules to the Disputes Committee. (3 people)
2. NOMINATIONS - All Competitors must have nominated prior to their start and late nominations may be accepted on the day until 0900 hours. Competitors must sign-on before launching from either Hillarys or Ocean Reef Marinas. This is a boat fishing event only. Land based anglers not permitted.
3. START PROCEDURE - The competition will start at 0600 hours by the sounding of a siren over the marine radio on Channel 4MHZ 27.91.No boats shall leave the Ocean Reef or Hillarys area prior to the start. All Competitors must have “Signed On” by 9.00am.BOATS ARE NOT TO CONGEST THE ENTRANCE TO EITHER MARINA.
4. FINISH PROCEDURE - The Competition will finish at 1500 hours and competitors MUST sign off. Any Competitor not signing off by 1515 hours will be disqualified. All bags must have been tagged and deposited in the Freezer Truck in the “Sign Off” area by 1500 hours. ONLY ONE (1) FISH OF EACH LISTED SPECIES IS TO BE PLACED IN BAG. ANY MORE THAN ONE (1) FISH OF ANY SPECIES OR UNLISTED SPECIES WILL DISQUALIFY THE BAG. Late bags are automatically disqualified. All Competitors must be “Signed Off”, to be eligible for prizes. “Fish not in natural fibre bags will be disqualified at weigh-in”. 5. POSTPONEMENT - The Competition may be temporarily postponed due to unforeseen circumstances on the day. If cancelled for the day, the Competition may be run on the following day and if cancelled due to weather etc. the Competition will be abandoned. If cancelled, no moneys will be refunded but Lucky Competitor prizes will be drawn. In this situation, competitors do not need to be present at the draw to receive their prize.
6. AWARD WINNERSA. Individual heaviest fish species will be awarded to the Competitor weighing in the heaviest fish of the species as named on the Competition Species List.
B. All individual heaviest fish species will be retained by the MAAC for examination until after the presentation.
C. No awards are confirmed until announced at the presentation.
D. The decision of the Disputes Committee shall be final for all awards made.
E. In the event of a tie, the specified prize will be shared.
7. AWARD PRESENTATION - All Awards will be presented at the MAAC Clubhouse on completion of the tabulating of results at approximately 1930 hours, or earlier if possible. Lucky Competitor prizes will only be awarded to participants who have logged On & Off, and who are attending the presentations.
8. ANGLING LIMITS - A Competitor must not use more than two (2) rods or hand lines at any one time and each rod or hand line must not have more than two (2) hooks. (A flight of hooks to be considered as one (1) hook). No drop lines or baited markers allowed. All anglers must use conventional amateur fishing tackle. Rope, sash cord etc. not permitted.
A Competitor may use any gauge line. A Competitor must hook and land his own fish, but may receive assistance in landing which does not entail his assistant handling the rod, reel or line. “All fish presented for weigh-in must conform to current Department of Fisheries Regulations”. If no size specified then the species must be a minimum of 200mm.
9. SAFETY - Boat Pairing is recommended for safety reasons. Safety Equipment as per navigable water regulations must be carried on
all boats and may be subject to checking by the Safety Officer or his Deputy and any boat not conforming may be disqualified.For your own safety please log on with Whitfords Sea Rescue on Channel 90 or Channel C. 10. DISPUTES AND DISQUALIFICATIONS - Any dispute must be reported to the Field Day Officer no later than 10 minutes after the completion of the weigh-in, bag must remain unopened with white zip tie seal unbroken. The Disputes Committee shall adjudicate on all disputes within these rules and its decision will be final. Any Competitor found to have breached the Rules shall be liable to disqualification. 11. ALTERATION TO RULES - The Controlling Committee shall have the power to vary the Rules or arrangements to contribute to the smooth running of the Competition. 12. LIABILITIES - All Competitors and persons taking part in the Competition do so entirely at their own risk and the MAAC will not be held responsible for any loss or damage sustained by any Competitor or any other persons to his or their own person and effects. 13. POWER WINCHES/VISITORS - No Power Winches are to be used. Visitors are not permitted on board Competitor’s Boats. 14. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SKIPPER TO KNOW THESE RULES AND TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE ADVICE TO THEIR CREWS. The MAAC will not accept any responsibility for any competitor misinterpreting the rules through either written or verbal communication reasons. 15. ENTRIES CLOSE 15TH FEBRUARY 2018. A $15.00 Late Entry fee will apply for entries received after the 15th.
