Temora was abuzz with visits from several State and Federal Ministers in August. Wednesday 16th August saw the Hon Melinda Pavey, the NSW Roads Minister, in Temora to discuss the funding implications for the proposed bypass. On Thursday 17th the Hon. Adam Marshall, Minister for Tourism and Major Events addressed the Council Meeting and the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon. Gladys Berejikilian, attended a reception at Temora Aviation Muse- um where she formally thanked the Hon. Katrina Hodgkinson for her time as the State Member of Parliament for Cootamundra leading up to Ms Hodgkinson’s retirement from the position on August 31. The Shipton Villas, new residences being constructed as part of the Dr Parry Homes organisation, are looking to be ready for their new occupants by the new year. Jeff Cornford, Chairman of the Dr Parry Homes board, said he hoped the first five units will be completed by Christmas with residents to be moving in early in the new year. Situated on the corner of Crowley and Grey Streets, the five units are the first stage of a much larger project, with 15 units planned over the next few years. Construction on the remaining 10 units will begin once the first five are sold. The aim of the new units is to provide suitable accommodation for older residents who are looking to downsize and have less responsi- bility around the home. Gardens will be cared for as part of the mainte- nance costs of the agreement, and options for home care will also be available through Pinnacle Commu- nity Services. “Prospective occupants will pay an upfront fee to purchase their unit, and will have low monthly fees for maintenance of the property, but when they vacate their home they will receive a 90% rebate on their initial payment. All amenities will be paid for by the occupants.” Mr Cornford said. “Prospective occupants will go through a selection process” he explained “but the units are mainly aimed at people between the ages of 65-80 who have minimal family support in town.” Mr Cornford has been involved with Dr Parry Homes since their begin- nings in 1968. He, and all those involved with Dr Parry Homes, work tirelessly for the opportunity for our ageing residents to age with dignity and comfort of their own homes. Live theatre is coming to Temora and it’s well worth a look. The Dapto Chaser is a fun, comedic look at an Australian culture that runs deep in the veins of many Temora residents – greyhound racing. For the Sinclair family, the cut-throat world of greyhound racing is a religion. And their beloved dog Boy Named Sue is more than a grey-hound; he’s their heart and soul on four legs. With the crucial Winnebago Classic on the horizon, Cess Sinclair has one shot at reversing his family’s

fortunes for good. Against all the odds, he’s betting on a miracle.Temora Town Hall Theatre, 7pm Thursday 21st September to see The Dapto Chaser. Tickets on sale now www.temora.com.au/events

An exciting new initiative to grow local business is being established by Temora Business Enterprise Group (TBEG).The Temora Gift Card program pro-vided by Why Leave Town Promotions will be open to any business in the Shire that is a TBEG member. The program provides a convenient and simple gift card that can only be purchased and redeemed at partici-pating businesses, thereby supporting our local community. It is not only retail businesses that are encouraged to be involved, with the cards able to be used for any goods or services.Participating businesses must be a member of TBEG, with any business not currently a member that would like to be involved encouraged to contact TBEG and discuss this and other benefits of membership.“As a committee we are very excited by the prospects of this initiative be-cause it has many direct and indirect benefits to our economy, providing a mechanism to keep money local, using latest EFTPOS and banking technology,” said TBEG Chairman

Michael Harper.“We are also excited to add such a ‘tangible’ benefit for our members amongst a very long list of already existing member benefits.” TBEG aims at having the Gift Card Scheme in place by Christmas. Also on TBEG’s busy agenda over coming weeks is involvement in the Country Change Expo, being held in conjunction with the Temora Show, on Saturday, September 23rd.TBEG members have an exclusive opportunity for promotion, including a video to screen on the day, co-ordi-nated by Unity Productions, with more details on this special offer and other options for involvement at www.tbeg.org.au or via the Facebook page. There is also an exciting event planned for August 31st, when a TBEG PowerPlay hosted by Temora Aviation Museum, will be held in conjunction with the launch of the Museum’s much anticipated Da Vinci Machines Exhibition. September and October will see some extensive repairs on flood-damaged roads in our shire prior to the annual bitumen resurfacing program. The work will be done on the Burley Griffin Way and the Goldfields Way by Council as a sub-contractor to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). These works will incor-porate urban sections of road including Hoskins Street and Victoria Street. Work will involve:• Identifying the failures and selecting an appropriate repair program. • Temporary closure of one traffic lane with full traffic control arrangements to be in place incorporating 40km/h (during works) and 60km/h (aftercare) enforceable speed limits.• Recycling and modification of

the existing pavement through the addition of a small layer of good quality pavement material and the addition of small amount of hydrated lime. These materials are then mixed with the existing pavement to form the new pave-ment material.• Compacting the mixed pave-ment material and leaving it to settle under traffic for several days.• Trimming the patches to the existing pavement level and bitumen sealing.• Re-instating line-marking and reflectors.Weather permitting this process will take approximately one month to complete throughout the Shire. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your cooperation throughout this process.
