WHAT IS A BUDGET?Do you know how much money you have? Do you know how much money you spend each week? If you don’t know the answers to these questions, then you might need a budget.
Having a budget puts you in control of your money. Keeping track of what you have and what you spend lets you easily see where your money is going.
Use this sample budget to get started. Write down the money you get and the money you spend. Ask your parents for help, if you need it. We filled in the rows to give you some examples.
When you know how much money you have, you can make good saving and spending decisions. Remember to:
Think carefully before buying something.
Decide if you really want it.
Focus on saving for something you want to buy.
Check your budget to find out how much money you have to spend.
Following a budget may not be easy at first, but as you watch your money grow, you’ll be glad you have one.

EASY HOLIDAY GIFT IDEASThe holidays are right around the corner! Do you have any gifts for your family? If you need ideas, here are some that you can easily make at home:
DECORATIVE ROCK PAPERWEIGHTSMake ordinary rocks into fun
decorations! Find some smooth rocks in your backyard and clean them. Then, find a paintbrush and some paint – acrylic paint works best. Finally, start painting the rocks! What you paint is up to you. For example, you could paint your recipient’s favorite animal or write their name in a colorful way.
HOT CHOCOLATE MIXGive a gift that makes a sweet treat! Get some sugar, unsweet-
ened cocoa powder, sea salt, and a jar. Measure 3½ cups of sugar, 2¼ cups of cocoa powder, and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Place each ingredient into the jar and close the jar. Write instructions to mix 1 or 2 tablespoons of the mix into a mug of hot milk to enjoy some delicious hot chocolate!
HOMEMADE SNOW GLOBECreate your own winter wonderland! First, find a jar
and a waterproof object to put in it, like

a plastic toy. Then use super glue to attach the object on the inside of the jar lid. Fill the jar with water and add baby oil if you have any. Finally, add one to two teaspoons of glitter and screw the lid on. Shake the jar and you’ll have a snow globe!
Buying gifts at the store can be expensive. But when you make your own gifts, you can save money and make something extra special. Don’t forget to deposit the money you save in your DCU savings account.
