What’s legal ....and what’s notThe woman who had her Facebook photo stolen and used as advertising in the Czech Republic

Everybody say cheese!! What a beautiful moment for this Missouri family posing for their Christmas card photo. But they didn't expect that the photo would end up somewhere else than their living room.

Yes, a giant version of the image was spotted by a college friend of theirs on a food store in Prague, Czech Republic. The photo was being used as an advertisement without theirauthorization.

Grazie store in Prague'sowner, Mario Bertuccio said He took it from the internet and had no idea it was of a real family.

Tell it to the judge!.

There is plenty of up-to-date information online ...

Consider operating different accounts rather than setting different security levels within one account

Email accounts can be linked.

Keep your personal information private: review your security settings on Facebook; don’t publish your DoB , mother’s maiden name etc. Google yourself!

Consider using a username or alias rather than your actual name, e.g. Birm17 Install anti-virus software and keep it up to date. Use complex and different passwords: not your date of birth, or a word Don’t change your password because an email/phone call says you must! How can someone get my email address? Spybots or Crawlers can identify email

addresses, and bombard you with messages. Don’t assume someone is who they say they are, in any way. Don’t set up entirely open forums: appoint moderaters

to identify inappropriate contributors & block them. Beware automated feeds from other sites to yours. Beware sites with similar names to respectable ones,

e.g. WhiteHouse.gov (US HQ) vs. WhiteHouse.com (porn site)

Keeping safe: the basics
