The Tide was High for the Rise of the Tide Premier at PismoBeach, california

It was 5:00 a.m. Thursday, on March 11, 2010, when I headed tothe shop to load the van for the trip down south to Pismo Beach,

California. It was atypical rainy Oregon morning, and after my friendCliff and I finally got all the gear and skis loaded, we hit the road. The closer we got to California, the nicer the weather became! When

we arrived in Lake Shasta, the sun was out, the windows were down, and it just made the drive so much better. Especially since the trip

    was 15 hours one-way!

The trip down turned out to be uneventful with NO flats, blown ra-

diator hoses, or anything else, thankfully. We arrived in MorrowBay around 9:30 p.m. with sore butts, stiff legs, and the bed that

I crashed in, was like a long lost friend! I slept great and woke up

wide eyed and bushy tailed Friday, WOW!! The sun was out, andthe temperature was in the high 60s to low 70s. IT WAS PERFECT!!

Cliff and I stopped at a little place called Zorro's and ate one of the

best breakfasts I have ever had! Not only was the food great but we

sat outside on the patio, under the palm trees with a warm morningbreeze blowing! It was a great start to the day!

We had never been to Pismo before, so we drove around for quite a

while trying to figure out how to get onto the beach. (No, we did not

ask for directions.) Beach access is controlled by the Stateand it is only $5 bucks for a day-use permit, which is not too

a full day of fun! So we purchased our permit and drove rigthe beach, and then directly up into the dunes.

Heading south on the beach, we came to a small creek thad to cross to get to the camps. The tide was high, so it lo

bit sketchy. A few others, we noticed, had become stuck

but we just hauled right through it and did not get stuck at adunes in Pismo are really nice, and all kinds of vehicles were

advantage of the weekend. There were dirt bikes, ATV's, dugies, along with plenty of 4X4's of all shapes and sizes.

We located the Liquid Militia crew by the banners waving alarge group of skis. The action was already happening, so

ed shooting photographs immediately. This was my first tiing photographs with my new camera, and I immediately re

needed a bigger lens. I headed for the camera stores and

located a 300mm. It helped tremendously, but it still was nenough. The nice waves were pretty far out, so it was tough

good shots. Fortunately, Cuong Son loaned me his bigger the remainder of the weekend! Thanks Cuong! CONTINUEDON

Special thanks to Mike Follmer, Follmer Specialties, and Jim Russell,DSM Events for bringing us the 6th annual Mark Hahn MemorialHavasu 300. 46 teams of runabout and standup riders pushed them-selves to their limits to finish the grueling 300 mile race. Some of

them testing their strengths and abilities even more by racing iron-man or iron woman.

Mike spends countless hours every year preparing for this specialevent in remembrance of his closest friend, Mark Hahn, who wasinstrumental in the sport of PWC endurance racing. This isnt justany race; it is the Longest Continuous PWC Race. With one lap be-ing the equivalent to 10 miles and marked by turn boats and largeinflatable cones next to them. This years race also saw the use ofa transponder timing and scoring system, which made it so mucheasier in keeping track of the correct number of laps that each com-petitor made.

The skies were over cast and it threatened to rain the entire day. The

water was calm which made for a very fast track. Being the fast-est on the track doesnt necessarily mean that you will win the racethough. This particular race can be won or lost in the pits. Pit crewsare watched with an eagles eye to make sure that all safety rules areadhered to and that no gas spills happen.

Competitors and water craft lined the beach as the National Anthemwas sung. Everyone was anticipating the start of the race, when Jim

Russell would signal the start of the race with an ear piercgun blast. What seemed like an eternity was only a mattements when the sound would be heard.

Riders ran from the beach in a Le Mans start to get to their waand race to the first turn buoy positioned approximately 3 shore. The pack thinned quickly as spectators and pit crews waited to see who would make it to the scoring boat signif

The grueling ten mile lap course easily takes a toll on the watercraftas well as the person piloting it. The individuals who decide to takeon the course riding a stand-up search deep inside to break throughthe wall that makes them want to quit. They finish the race with sat-isfaction and are proud of their achievement that they have finished.

Others were not as lucky as their powerful machines experiencedmechanical problems early on in the race. Disappointed that they

would not finish, and capture the overall title, decided to stick aroundto help others who needed a little extra help. This race has alwaysbrought teams together as one, to reach a common goal. Somewould lend their quads or Rhinos to help pull skis out of the waterto the 20 foot mark for re-fueling, while others would lend their me-chanical expertise to help a fellow competitor get back on the water.

Craig Warner and Victor Sheldon rode fast and hard for the 1overall finish at the 2010 Hot Products APBA Mark Hahn MHavasu 300. Their speed, agility and the successful finessepit crew allowed them to capture the checkered flag in 4 hourmin. They also recorded the fastest lap time of 8 minutes 14 on lap 20, with a speed of 72.79 mph.

Afterwards competitors and guests were invited to an a

awards dinner, catered by Taco Hacienda. Tables lined thethe gymnasium size room loaded with freebies for everyonehome and to remember this day. After everyone had a bitand some libations to soothe the aching muscles, Mike Follmthe stage to welcome everyone and reveal the awesome displayed behind the current. It is always emotional, becausknow the real reason that we are there, and that is to pay to a friend, mentor, and husband who passed away doing loved most.

Kawasaki and Kanamori have been alinked pair for over a decade now and thetitles keep rolling in. As a member of theProduct Advancement team at KawasakiMotor Corporation, Minoru Kanamori hasbeen through it all when it comes to per-sonal watercraft. He was a big part ofbringing the SXR to life and probably hasmore hours on a jet ski than anyone on theplanet. A family man with a simple is bestattitude, hes a World Champion racer fromback in the day, who has reached the podi-um consistently in this modern era of racing.Minorus wife, Emi, also races jet skis and

after many near misses, earned the 2008Pro Womens Ski World Championship, fol-lowed up by a 2nd in 2009. As the third partof their racing family, their daughter, Moe, isalways in the water, and at only 5 years oldhas already been aboard a stand up. Lookout! There may be another Kanamori onthe line some day.

The Kanamoris enjoy living in SouthernCalifornia and take advantage of having thePacific Ocean within a half hour drive fromtheir home. Nearly every Sunday, all yearlong, they hit the water in Long Beach withtheir ASAP Racing teammates for fun timeson the buoy course. If not out in the LBC,they enjoy RV trips to Glamis and anywhereelse motorsports and toys are allowed.

I caught up with Minoru and Emi at theirride spot and was surprised to hear thatthe K-man was not going to ride that day.Something about jumping off the motorhome and jacking his knee up the day be-fore. Ouch! He watched us all fly around inthe monster chop, making sure Emi was do-ing her job beating up on us, and then wasnice enough to sit down and answer a fewquestions:

AARONSANCHEZ: Ive seen your namespelled many different ways, for the record, what is the correct spelling?

    MINORUKANAMORI: Its M-I-N-O-R-U K-A-N-A-M-O-R-I.

SANCHEZ: Alright, its official now. So whendid you come to America, and was it to

    work for Kawasaki Motor Corp.?

KANAMORI: Actually, I came here just forracing. I had some time off from my testrider contract, about six months, so I cameover to race the Budweiser Jet Ski Tour. Itwas like a summer vacation!

SANCHEZ: What is your current role atKMC?

KANAMORI: Ahhhh...lets see, Product Ad-vancement is my current title.

SANCHEZ: ok, cool. And that means thatyou....test whats coming out?

KANAMORI: Right, right. If they come upwith a new hood, or whatever idea it is, wekinda tweak it until its ready for production.

SANCHEZ: Ive heard that you learned tospeak English from Farthing and Flores, isthat true?

KANAMORI: Yeah, and Victor Sheldon, TimDixon, and Macc. Those kinda, you know, bad mouthed people. ha ha ha.

SANCHEZ: That must have been funny. Arethere any stories that you can tell aboutthat?

KANAMORI: You know, there are actually

way too many of those sto-ries, so maybe we should just skip therwise were going to be running outha ha ha. Plus theyre all way too di

SANCHEZ: I understand. ha ha. Wheryou think the future of Jet Ski racingheaded?

KANAMORI: Well right now I think itsbottomed out and it cant get any lowtry to think in the positive and look toting better.

SANCHEZ: It cant get any worse.

    KANAMORI: Exactly.

SANCHEZ: So do you see any manufnot just HSR, making a new stand ufuture?

KANAMAORI: Ahhhh...lets see...I thingoing to take the economy getting bebefore thats going to happen. If thefacturers can sell more PWC, and thstart to see more profits, then maybecan happen.

SANCHEZ: Both you and Emi are WoChampions, is there any special wortraining that you guys do?

KANAMORI: Not really, just riding herLong Beach and having fun. Havingthe key!

SANCHEZ: I like that, just having funa lot of people are going to be bummhear thats all it takes. ha ha. Will weboth of you racing at World Finals?

    KANAMORI: Yeah... I guess.

SANCHEZ: You guess? Whats that sposed to mean?

SANCHEZ: How was it to ride that beast?

    KANAMORI: It was good.

    SANCHEZ: It was just good?

KANAMORI: Yeah, it was good to ride it,but there were just too many maintenancerequirements. Thats why I dont bring itout any more. Way too much.

SANCHEZ: Whats in your shop right now?

    KANAMORI: My shop?

SANCHEZ: Yeah, what are working on rightnow?

    KANAMORI: I cant tell you.

SANCHEZ: Good answer! Makes itsounds top secret, everyone will probablybe making wild guesses of their own.

SANCHEZ: Many regard you as the bestJet Ski mechanic on the planet, are there

any mechanics out there that you admire?

KANAMORI: I like Turbo, my friend from SEin Japan.

It is always a pleasure, and honestly makes me proud to be anAmerican, when I encounter individuals such as Brian Vergin ofThrust Innovations, operating out of Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He stepped it up a notch this year, setting himself apart frommany. How did he do this? He did it with a mere thought, andan extremely good one at that! Brian learned of vast individuals

suffering great trauma and loss, and he had a strong desire tohelp them. Many individuals have good thoughts and wonderfulintentions, yet Brian actually turned his thoughts and intentions intoaction.

As most in this world realize, citizens of Southern Haiti suffered theinitial effects of a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake on January12, 2010, with numerous aftershocks ranging initially as high as 4.2to 5.9. To say it was not a good way to ring in the New Year wouldbe a travesty of an understatement. Haiti is known for having oneof the worlds most extensive celebrations in honor of the New Year, and festivities are ongoing for an entire week. What New YearsResolutions did each person make just prior to this unimaginablecatastrophe, and how quickly did each reduce that goal to a mere,

desperate hope for assistance so soon thereafter? How manymore will we learn of that never even had the chance to hope?

I would like to imagine that most in this world felt genuine sorrow atthe initial shock of the horrific news, and that they may have evenfound some way to assist those still suffering, yet I realize so manysimply diverted their attention back to more immediate concernswithin their own personal lives, what they believed affected themdirectly. A choice always exists, and Brian of Thrust Innovationsmade his. He created a thread on an internet forum suggesting aride to benefit the victims, and he called upon his fellow riders tohelp. Approximately 25 skis showed, along with one boat, and wewere all richly rewarded with a beautiful day boasting fun surf atSebastian State Park (the a.k.as abound Sebby, Monster Hole,

    The Hole).

The first day of spring greeted us with a spectacular sunrise, and itwas as if all of the wildlife we saw knew that winters cold harshnesswould soon be long forgotten. What a wonderful Saturday morningit was! The Lisa Maria picked us up at Captain Hirams Resort onthe Indian River. We were thankful to Hirams for extending lodgingdiscounts in support of the benefit during their peak season, as wellas to numerous other places within the vicinity of the park. Theride to the inlet took about ten minutes, forcing me to dawn myblue jeans in order to stay warm. We bypassed the park, opting

to go straight to the surf, due to Captain Willie having had dherding us timely while inland.

As we passed underneath the bridge, Monster Hole appearbe asleep. I instantly felt a slight pang of disappointment, feall would be forced to the norths shore pound, but seconds

I spotted my first rider at one oclock, then another at two! Wcleared the bridge and began the end of our pass between jetties, north and south both congested with fisherman lookdown upon us, poles in hand. A smile emanated from withipicked up speed, for roughly fifteen skis appeared on the hoglistening in the rising sun. It was more than apparent thes

our guys, and we were happy to finally be arriving!

First a back-flip, then a slash, next a barrel roll, everyone ridwhat looked like it might be some pretty decent surf upon cl

review. Then the hole gave a hint of what it is known for, anthat moment, I knew it was truly going to be a fun day! Briamerely picked a weekend on the fly; I had told him early on meant to be, and my premonition had just been confirmed wsight of that first set pushing though! The guys in Californiasay I bring the sweet surf when I visit, and so at that momenwere all in my thoughts as well, present in spirit so to speakthat made great even better!

I knew we were in stealth mode, because everyone thoughtwere in the race boat it was time for some candid photogr

my favorite! Captain Willie steered us beyond the outside breakwith finesse. Brazilian Juliana encouraged his forward attention byadorning the bow in her foreign styled bikini. I eagerly began to getmy camera gear unpacked while silently laughing at both of them.Sebbys water boasted a brilliant blue/green and conditions weregood, simply an amazing day compared to our seemingly harshwinter. The surf was chest to head high with regular overheadscoming in like gifts! The sky had few clouds, and the sun began toheat us quickly, being that we were no longer running at fast speedand merely enjoying the show.

The Captain cranked the stereo, and we kicked back to someold classic rock mixed with a lot of heady brap. Life was good! Irealized I was missing a fun day in a wetsuit, and part of me wishedI had my skis, yet within the first few shutter movements thosethoughts vanished into oblivion. Getting the camera dialed-in while

riding swells inside of a boat is a bit of a challenge, attempting toavoid camera shake is much like tossing a coin, yet well worth theeffort for some rare angled photographs. We had to move in fairlyclose at times to get the shots, without getting tossed, and that iswhen it became even more fun!

We must have simply looked like another boat enjoying the concert, for other boaters soon claimed their positions, all seeminglybobbing to our tunes. Spying their reactions on occasion, theyappeared to be enthralled by what they were seeing. Most on skisbegan to eventually notice their audience had grown beyond that ofthe onshore fishermen and casual beach lovers, and this is whenthe brappage increased! Suddenly, every wave featured someoneinverted or traveling a big air, usually with what must have looked

like a stalker in hot pursuit, when in reality it was a r ider with ahelmet camera, for there were many. The energy was not lost onanyone!! At some point we became suspect, for a few spotted thecamera on our boat (or the bikini), namely two of my fellow Orlandoriders.

I could see their hesitation mixed with curiosity, and it was aas I watched them through the lens. They would pause almwearily after each trick and stare (or gaze), their typical ridinstyles momentarily altered. Chris (Jetmaniac) slowly beganedge closer, and it was not long thereafter that he buzzed ushis helmet camera. Next, and to our delight, he pulled the bback-flip we saw that day! The bail seemed to happen as if

in slow motion, and he appeared to be coming down directlytop of his ski at an angle, legs first! Frightening indeed, for h

a good bit of separation going on, yet he instantly recoveredcasually ride off into the mix of skis. We saw much more airhim after that, with some nice surf riding as well.

Lucas (Lucaumpits), also out of Orlando, appeared to enjoymore than anyone, simply a pleasure to photograph, for his animated in his facial expressions, and it was easily recognigenuine. He put on a fine show of his own, surf-riding one-heffortlessly reaching back with the other to trail the wave. Hprobably inverted on barrel rolls and back-flips more than anwe saw that day, complete with a powerful looking one-leggeback-flip! I consider him to be one of Floridas most improvefreestylers, and expect many will continue to see great thinghim.

Some monster sets began to roll in again, and Scott (Speleoof Cocoa Beach found one in the back, dropping in perfectlycatch a sweet, long left full of fast power. It is moments sucthose that you watch intensely with adrenaline pumping, wiswere you instead, while still enjoying every last second. He long ride, the wave continued building, the lip taunted curlingthen speed instantly appeared to have taken on new dimenswithin his newly found position! It might have been terror, fonose of his ski buried, and back into the wall of water he rollhead first!! I cringed, and at the same time was suddenly eit was not me getting pummeled! The coast guard lover whoalways ready to ride some surf seemed undaunted! All wasin the end, and I imagine he will remember that wave for a l

time, I know I sure will! The older crew must have been feepressure, because they seemed to ride out next with somethprove, and not only did they do it with grand authority, they dwell!

Scott (ScottS/Savannah Scott) out of Georgia was the first tous with his helmet camera, and he showed us once again wOld Guys Rule means. His numerous barrel rolls appearestill be gracefully intact, and he schooled with seasoned flaidropping into some nice back-sets for some pretty rides. Da(Stricky), out of South Florida, ski had issues, so he jumped

Dres (Rotaxgranades) B1 without missing a beat! His spice stillbacks up his fun bravado, and so it was good to see him on thewater full of excitement again. Dre, another South Florida bad boy,was oblivious to his audience the entire time unfortunately, for he isuniquely intriguing in the surf when he is aware, and it can take oneven frightening aspect at times. He was inverted more frequentlythan most others, and still has the most powerful looking back-flipsout of everyone to this day; it is only fitting, since it is rumored hewas the first to pull one in Florida long ago.

Nick (Yamaslut) out of Daytona spotted us next, instantly pulling abarrel roll directly in front of us for another nice angle. We quicklymaneuvered directly south of the break again, and then turnedinland for a bit of the typical perspective. Jim (Thrillhill) out of St.Simons, GA was shadowing him in the back-sets a few momentslater as some beautiful overheads began to push toward shoreagain. Nick chose a handsome one for a well-formed back-flip withnice height, forcing Jim to follow suit immediately thereafter. Myutmost respect goes out to Jim, for within mere seconds he wascompletely inverted into his own sweet looking back-flip, his focushaving never left the other rider in order to get the footage. Thisseemed to be what caused his sacrifice mid-rotation, with quitean entertaining looking bail for it all! We also boasted at leastthree female riders for the cause, all representing extremely well, and on various style skis. There were too many fine riders to noteindividually, and all seemed to be thankful to be sharing in such funsurf!

My only regret was that our Captain turned us around in the middleof their session, and that was all of the show we caught, 30 minutesperhaps; a highly charged 30 minutes however! It felt great to bedoing something to help those unfortunate individuals to our south, and wonderful to be able to enjoy it as well. We headed backthrough the onlookers with their fishing polls cast, in order to meet

up with Thrust Innovations and drop off the donation box.

Boyer (N2-H20) was our international representative this timSebby, hailing from Canada, now residing in the Carolinas. contributed with some fun of his own, via hauling a scale doFlorida and promoting a ski weigh-off competition, with donabenefiting the cause. Jetmaniac put up three sets of foothoorder to aid in the charity drive as well. Everyone did what could, even if it was just being there to show support. Manycould not make the ride found ways to contribute, and we on

they could have made it in person. Next time! Thrust Innovgrilled out while providing t-shirts and stickers, as well as haoffered various parts online at cost, profits going to the charfor those in Haiti.

After a few quick hellos and pictures of skis, Captain Willie rbell. Perhaps a dozen of us gathered at Captain Hirams latevening for live entertainment by OManufacture in the SandSunday mornings weather was forecast with storms, so we it up to call it a great time, all in the name of a worthy causespoke with Brian after the freeride, asking him what he thouhe might do for his next Monster Charity. I found him to beextremely sincere individual regarding his desire to help othehis thoughts were promising, so you might wish to bookmarwebsite, Thrustinnovations.com to stay informed.

Mike and I have talked a few times off and on about this newmagazine of his. I was always stoked on the idea of contributing. Ifully dig the newspaper format. The whole pre-technologic genu-inity of a newspaper in your hands. It feels like fact, not internetchatter or dime store glossy gossip, but the truth, straight and up todate. For some reason newsprint just says real deal information.Credibili ty. Fact. And it doesnt need a hotspot.

I used to love the early RacerX moto paper, and wrote for JetSportswhen it started on newsprint. I just really like idea, applaud Mikeseffort and think, damn it, our country should have some effin printabout Jetski info.

I told him Id meet his deadline.

Whoa. Its here.. Its Spring. The DJSA is going into their secondrace, the first of the new 550 All Out Class and my motors are stillin numerous different stages of disassembly. Cylinders still in box-es, still yet to be shipped out for a freshening bore, cranks to rebuildthat havent gotten as far as boxes. Not looking much like Im racing

this weekend. I know thats what Jim was calling about.

Gotta admit. I m not much into jetskiing till its hot enough to ridewithout a wetsuit. And this has been the mother of all bad years. Jet skiing is far frommy thoughts, but the season rolls in anyway. Whether youre readyor not, Jim and promoters coast to coast are dropping buoys. Itstime to think about Wet Racing.

But I cant. Occasionally I might get a moment of daydreaming andits these moments that a jetski thought might flash in but only brief-ly. The rest of my day from sun up to sun down has been extendedbursts of hyper activity.

You see, Im in the critical early stages of a start up. I just gfunded and errors or anything less than stellar effort right nospells doom.

They say when one door closes another opens. Well I guesstrue, behind door number three was a hot brand with unlimitpotential. While I lived in a haze for weeks of aftermath, mynow clear and exciting. Its so key to keep momentum, mothave to wait. And so will all those NorCal 550 badasses thato swap some paint with me, and sadly so will my buddy Jimmost graciously entertained my pleas for the 550 class, put schedule and made it a money class. My man. I will race a these my friend but not these first few, and did I mention? Ylike a God to me.

And Mike, I really wanna help out and be part of this really cbut where am I gonna find 500 words when the most jetskiindone in months was photoshopping a pic while I waited on h

The Peruvian International Freeride Championships were heldon January 30that Asia Beach, located about one-hour south ofthe Capitol city of Lima. This was the first time for this event and

eight of the finest Freeriders were in attendance from four differentcountries, including Peru, Brazil, Australia, and the USA. The

event was sponsored by Yamaha (Zips Motors of Lima), Dodge,Burn Energy Drink, Sole, Mormaii Wetsuits, and our favorite

Barena Cerveza! Over a thousand beautiful (Muy HermosaJerivassios) people showed up to watch and cheer on these high-

flyin hydro-cross pilots as they faced some huge surf conditions. The most amazing fact for this HI-PROFILEevent was that all of

the invited riders were riding on two bone-stock Yamaha Superjets(They survived and were sold immediately following the event).

Temperatures hovered in the mid 80s with the fog lifting by noon. The Peruvian Jet Ski Association is headed up by President, Anibel

Alliaga, and his event director, and former President, MiguelGonzales, finishedthe riders safety meeting and it was t ime to get

busy for Carlos and Gonsalvesthe judges!

The event began with the surf breaking at four to six feet, however by the time for the semi -finals, rollers were six to eight feet, with an occasional ten footer which helped for a terrific competition. The Brazilians were on fire with all three making it into the semi-finals

in this double-elimination contest. Brazilin Carlos Sampaio aka Zanthe Man, made it to the final four by barrel rolling and surfing his waypast Cuong Son of the USA and Australias Adrian Ross. In the otherbracket, Jarrod Aljouny, sponsored by Liquid Militia, quietly worked hisway into the Semis by edging out Zips Yamaha sponsored Rafael Sotoand fellow Peruvian Diego Leon. The battle for third was concededby Aljouny of the US, giving Zan the final spot on the podium and aguaranteed Brazilian sweep of the top three spots! Leading the wayto the finals, it was Brazilian closed course standout, Topstar TiagoGeitens and Bruno The Stud Jacob, both riders were undefeatedcoming into the finals and the judges decided it would be winner take

all, six minute heat. The surf was perfect for these two exfreeriders from the same homelandthe crowd gathered afeatured such Closed-Course stand-outs as Paloma NocWomens competitor from Peru, and Indy Al Miller, 2008 RChamp, from Indianapolis(Congrats on his recent engaBruno and Tiago both started with surf re-entrys and progrbig aerials and backflips, and Topstar finished with a 25, onbackflip which gave him the judges favor! The Cayman Islands

    Are Going Racing

CIWA, which stands forthe Cayman Island WatercraftAssociation kicked off theinaugural series on April 18thin Grand Cayman. CIWA is thenewest affiliate to the IJSBAand will now be able to qualifyracers from their country tocompete at the IJSBA WorldFinals. This was the first ClosedCourse race of the season inthe Western Hemisphere and

it was a dandy. This was the first time that the Caymanian racers

ever seen a split course locally and the track mimicked the sameone that was at Lake Havasu last year in order to train the racers toget used to racing on larger tracks. The weather was beautiful withtemps in the mid 80s and the atmosphere was very professional, with each Team having their own Pit Areas and tents with the Teamnames on them, bleachers for the fans, and a great selection offood which included local fish dishes.

The races were structured a little different than they are inthe states. First, the racers all come from a different Team insteadof racing individually as privateers with their own sponsorships.Next, the racers have three motos and receive points for eachmoto, instead of adding them up to combine for one final score. Fi-nally, there are only four classes, Beginners, Novice, Amateur, and

Expertthey are all in the Runabout Division.

On to racing, nearly thirty racers from six teams were atthe first round of the series which took place at South Sound. TheBeginner Class was dominated by the Team Westec racer, KalebEbanks, who won all three motos. Chad Smith also ran very wellwith three podium finishes for the Tonys Toys Team and JaredBush also had a decent day finishing third in points for the week-end. Chaz Clifford, another Team Westec racer went three for threein the Novice Class giving him the points lead going into the next

round and his teammate Chris Bodden followed him in pointsecond overall for the weekend. In Amateur racing, Andres started slowly for the Tonys Toys Team; however he finishedtwo moto victories fending off the hard-charging Trying A Tinnamic duo of cousins, Nathan and Darren McLean, who finisecond and third respectively. Westec Expert Racer, Seth Wwho rode flawlessly all day, was the points leader of the ExpClass, but it didnt come as easily as he would have liked. Inthird moto, there was contact between he and Tonys Toys raRoshod Goff, it was caused by a r ider not yielding to the bluwhich was explained at the Riders meeting. It was a tough for Watler who suffered extensive damage to his watercraft; he was able to maintain a second place finish to Goff, who t

third moto win and a second Overall. Craig Smith ended upfor the day and Richard Gonzales aka Honey G, of the ConBoyz rounded out the top four Experts. Great job by all of thein attendance which include Good2Go, Tryin A Ting, HPR, ToToys, Nuttin 2 Lose, and Westec.

The race was sponsored by Lime Communications, Aals, Cayman Islands Fire Dept, Cayman Islands and the Redand the Comfort Suites. A very special thanks goes out to aHyslop family (for use of the land), CIWA volunteers, and Mrhenique for use of the Team HPR clubhouse for the CIWA Omeetings. Also, thanks to the racers and great race fans thaout to support this fledgling event. Thanks also to my very gcious hosts Vincent Ramgeet, Glen Ebanks, and my buddy,

Smith! The next event is scheduled for May 16th, hope to sthere!!! Mike Young
