Toxic Ingredient of the Month Parabens

Four types of parabens are used as preservatives and aren’t always labeled “Parabens." Parabens in deodorants and antiperspirants are linked to breast cancer and have recently been found in breast cancer tumors. Parabens, as xenoestrogens (hormone disruptors), may contribute to sterility in male mice and humans. Their estrogenic-like activity causes hormone imbalances in females and early “puberty” onset .

I am doing a lot of research on endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDC’s) and working on writing a paper soon. This subject horrified me when we noticed that our daughter, before the age of one year, began developing breast tissue.

Her Pediatrician suggested that we try discontinuing the use of the baby bath products that we were currently using. Within two weeks of their discontinuation, the breast tissue disappeared and her chest looked like a normal one year old again.

It infuriates me that these companies KNOW exactly what their products do to children; however because the FDA has not marked these chemicals illegal, they continue to use them and dupe the public. All the while parents are unknowingly subjecting their children to these hormone disruptor's. Their ads are certainly clever and convincing, making you feel like the best way to care for your child is use their products. We would NEVER knowingly put our children in harms way and potentially do something that could affect their health and the health of their children negatively for the rest of their lives. Future generations are depending on us to gain knowledge, teach, and fight for their development, health and happiness. It is time people, and I am not going to sit on this any more! Rheanne V.

Questions & AnswersQ: Do you have mosquito cream or mist for the aftermath of all the flooding of the US river basins? Gary B.

A: We do not currently have a bug repellant. We might suggest a mixture of essential oils in a grain alcohol base. Lemongrass, tea tree, clove, and lavender are good ones to start with. Shake well in a spray bottle and mist yourself and your immediate outdoor area. You could also purchase Neem Oil from your local health food store, dilute it with water, and spray all windows and door frames to deter insects from coming into your home. Glacier Silt is useful for immediately taking the itch out of a mosquito bite.

A: We do not currently carry a hairspray. This is a possibility for the future.
